About Jo-ann Douglas

Dear Holiday makers. My husband and I live in Doha Qatar. Dougy (real name Lee) is a captain on a private yacht based in Doha. I am a Teaching Assistant in an international school. I (Jo) lived in our home in Coin for 2 years with the kids and really loved it. Dougy came home as much as he could but we really didn't get to see enough of him. This is the reason we moved. Although Dougy is away cruising with the boat, we get to see an awful lot more of him being in Doha.

Dougy was born in Zimbabwe, to a south African dad and English mum. He has traveled all his life living in South Africa, the UK, Spain, France, Holland and now Doha. I was born in the UK to English parents, from the age of 17 I moved away and have been traveling ever since. We met in Mallorca.

Why Jo-ann Douglas chose Coín

We fell in love with this property as soon as we saw it. We have turned it into a great place to either live or come for holidays. It is remote and quiet yet only a stones throw away from everything you need. Douglas Creek has great views, which is one of the things I love about the place. My husband and I are keen walkers, so the surroundings are just perfect. We take our dogs down to the river which is close by. It is Ankle deep in most places in the summer so you can walk down the river as far as you like. You will come across a deep part for swimming now and again and also it will be bone dry in places. In the winter after the rain it is gushing and full of wild life. The area is also great for mountain biking, which we will do more of when our kids are older.

What makes this villa unique

The great advantage of Douglas Creek is its peace and quiet through the week. There are no on looking neighbours as you are surrounded by 3000 square meters of land. Also the neighbours all live in the town of Coin and only come to their country homes at the week end, so there is a little more noise around on Saturdays and Sundays.

Although you feel like you are miles from any where the reality is you are very central and close to every thing. 10 Min's in the car you are in Coin town. Also 10 Min's away you have typical white Andalucian villages. And the 30 Min's you are on the coast. Just perfect.

Notes on accommodation: House is as child friendly as possible with stair and door gates available. Cot and a high chair also available at no extra cost. Internet broadband access available with own laptop. Hairdryer, iron, ironing board and vacuum cleaner all available. Outside: The house has a large garden to relax in with private swimming pool and children's play area. There are 5 terraces to choose from. One off the upstairs bedroom for privacy. The sun deck around the pool with sun beds and chairs. The BBQ terrace to enjoy outdoor dining. The large comfy terrace to enjoy a lounge around on the sofa. And the chill out zone set apart from the house to swing in a hammock and just relax in private. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen included, house cleaned on changeover but replacement towel and sheets available on site. Other: Office with desk and internet connection and wifi. Great outside living area with sofas and outdoor kitchen dining area which seats 6.

Great place to relax with children!

This was a charming -- but remote -- place to stay for a week. Unfortunately it was too cold for us to swim during our stay. And firewood was not provided for us (but we were told we could go buy our own). The roads to get there were a surprise -- I grew up in the potato fields of rural New Brunswick, Canada, and I have NEVER seen roads like this before. Be sure to rent a sturdy vehicle that is not low to the ground. Otherwise, lots of hot water, the dishwasher was a bonus, lots of games for the kids with plenty of outdoor play space, the neighbours' escaping chickens added entertainment, beds were comfy.

Owner's Response: We have now had the track leading down to our house concreted, so no more large pot holes on the earth. The area had a lot of rain in February 2018 so the tracks were extremely bad before Michelles visit unfortunately. The top track usually gets levelled out by a bulldozer at the end of March ready for the summer months. March is usually the start of warm weather so firewood isn't supplied, during the winter months you will arrive to a large basket full of wood. Which can be topped up by yourselves from Coin, 10 minutes away. We feel rural when you are in the house but reality is 10 minutes from town and 30 mins from the coast. Not to rural for me but maybe for others.

Total relaxation ,house is spectacular and spotlessly clean.

Neighbour who acts as caretaker is absolutely charming quick to answer any questions. Attentive without being intrusive.

Wonderful, peaceful, location

We spent two wonderful weeks here, there is everything you would wish for inside the house, the air con in the bedrooms was vital as it was 40 degrees during our first week. It was the outside spaces that made this place so special, there were loads of comfy places to sit and relax, with wonderful views of the countryside and most of the time a welcome cooling breeze.

The neighbours Belin and Alex are two of the nicest people we have ever met, they were waiting for us on arrival and were quick to help us with a couple of minor things during our stay. We will definitely come back and I would recommend this wonderful place to anyone.

Dream Villa

Absolutely stunning Villa, cannot recommend highly enough. We had the best holiday ever, beautiful Villa in stunning surroundings. Lovely owners to deal with and lovely neighbour to help with anything. Heaven on earth, neither me my husband or 2 daughters wanted to come home. Will most definitely be back again, Douglas Creek is magical xxxx

Special interest holidays:

With such scenic surroundings the area would be a paradise for landscape painters. There are many tracks for mountain biking or motorcross, if you have a your own bike, and walking with a river 5 mins away and lakes 30 mins for swimming with nature. There are many different species of birds for birdwatchers in the area. Horse lovers will find many stables locally.


The golden beaches of Marbella are 35 mins away as is the popular marina of the rich and famous Puerto Banus for a spot of lunch and people watching. The beautiful city of Malaga is only 30 mins away with it's own long beach and beach bars. Torrimolinos and Fuengerola both with aqua parks and beaches are only 35 - 40 mins away.


Fly to Malaga, Coin is just 40 mins from the airport. Cheap flights are available from most UK airports, 2 popular airlines are Easyjet and BMIbaby. Car hire is available from Malaga airport by booking on line and is essential. We will provide detailed directions when you make a reservation.


Airport Malaga 35km. Railway Malaga 35km. Ferry Malaga 35km Beach Malaga, Marbella 35km. Ronda 1 hour 66km. Gibraltar 1 hour 40 mins 136km. Seville 2 hour 30 mins 264km. Granada 2 hour 158km. Sierra Navada skiing 2 1/2 hours.

Further Details:

Coin is a small town but has all the necessary amenities at hand. It has 3 large supermarkets and a small shopping centre with a multi cinema showing original version movies. It has a local market every Saturday morning which the locals call 'El Barato' meaning the cheap one, well worth a visit and a large boot sale in the car park of the shopping centre every Sunday. Douglas Creek is on the outskirts of Coin at the base of the Sierra Nieves National Park so even though you have all that at hand you feel secluded in the beautiful country side. Just 10 - 20 mins drive you can visit several typical white villages where the locals welcome you in. A good way to try some of the local cuisine. Andalucia has many fiestas through out the year. During August the fierier is a large celebration in Malaga and Seville and all the towns and villages hold their own parties, each week in a different village including Coin.

Booking Notes:
A 25% deposit upon reservation with balance transfer made 3 weeks before arrival. Plus 200 euros deposit refundable on departure to cover breakages and excess cleaning. The 25% deposit is not refundable if booking is cancelled 3 weeks prior to arrival date. All prices include a free welcome pack of the essentials you will need on arrival and including of course, a bottle of bubbly.

Prices are for the property per week in UK Pounds. Any booking over 2 weeks we offer a 5% discount, any bookings over 4 weeks we offer a 10% discount.
