The extensive gardens are stocked with peach, fig, pomegranate trees and cherry trees. The villa is located in the Subbetica National Park- a delight for wildlife enthusiasts. Spend the lazy afternoons watching flocks of Bee-Eaters or Hoopoes in the olive groves.

Had an amazing time. The farmhouse is superb. The views from the terrace are simply stunning with a lake and mountains and Moorish castle. The pool is great and the top terrace was great place for my daily yoga sesh. Days out to Alhambra and Cordoba were a real eye-opener. Am no history expert but I couldn't help being impressed by the sights. Have already booked with friends for 2016.

Location, Location, Location

Prior to booking I had a long chat with the owner who answered all my questions about the villa and the area. The managers Amanda and Shaun were there to greet us on our arrival and to show us around. They were very friendly and most helpful in getting us groceries for our arrival, booking a taxi and also giving good local advice. The property was clean and well prepared.

Villa el Chaparro is a delightful old and quirky property in a very quiet location with absolutely stunning views from the terrace over the lake across to the lovely village of Iznajar. It must suely be "God's little acre".It is very spacious and the thick walls and shutters at the windows keep it cool. The large pool with Roman steps and outside spaces are wonderful, lots of shade and places to relax. It was very hot whilst we were there and we only went indoors to shower and sleep, thoroughly enjoying our meals in the various outside shaded places. We loved the courtyard and it became our focal point of an evening for eating el fresco under the vines and then playing cards and games.

Not much English is spoken in the area but the locals are very friendly and willing to help. I managed to get lamb chops and steak in the local butcher's by " moo-ing and baa-aaing " great fun shopping. One of the restaurants kept the chef back to cook us when we arrived late one a Sunday afternoon.

We had fantastic days out, visiting must not be missed Cordoba, the Alhambra and Botanical Gardens outside of Malaga.

We have stayed in many villas over the years and although not luxurious, all in all Villa el Chaparro was perfect for us in every way, and we couldn't fault it, we hope to return at some time in the future.

Although it didn't affect us as we were a party of five and didn't need to use all of the bedrooms, I think it should be noted that 2 of the bedrooms had a very small double bed and the upstairs bedroom is accessed by very steep stairs and does not have windows.

I know you didn't use the upstairs, but just wanted to clarify that each upstairs bedroom does have a window. They are behind wooden sun shutters which were probably closed when you looked in. One of the rooms is a standard single and the other is a standard double. With kind regards

A fabulous away from it all farmhouse

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful farmhouse, tucked away along a quiet track with outstanding views of the lake and the town of Iznajar in the valley below. I look back with such good memories of eating outside in the little courtyard covered with vines heavy with grapes.

The house has a great layout and each bedroom has its own bathroom. Boy was it hot when we were there........high 30s most days. Each bedroom is equipped with a fan - no air con. We spent a lot of time in and out of the pool which was spotlessly clean (and cleaned twice a week).

I have to say we didn't travel massively and stayed close to home, but Granada (so beautiful) and Priego de Córdoba (lovely town with ruined castle) are well worth a visit. Iznajar has its own charm, climb up to the castle and church - the views are fantastic, but avoid the English bar...... Very friendly but not brilliant.

One thing to note...... The houses before the farmhouse on the track have chained up guard dogs right on the lane itself and they were quite aggressive when we drove past a couple of times -- not advisable to try and walk along the lane - we certainly wouldn't have risked it. The house is quite isolated, which we absolutely loved needing to chill out and relax. If it's nightlife you are after, perhaps not the house for you!

A wonderful holiday -- we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would definitely go back.

Coast/Beach:

Beach on the fresh water lake, where pedalos and sailing boats can be hired, is just a 10 minute drive away. There is also a beach bar with restaurant and bathing is safe

Coastal beaches are about an hours drive.

Travel:

Granada Airport is just 40 minutes away and has car hire facilities. Malaga Airport is 50 minutes to 1 hour away also with car hire facilities. A car is essential.

If driving from North Spanish ports, this takes approximately 9 hours.

Distances:

Approx distances are 5kms to Iznajar which is the nearest small town, 15kms to Rute, 35kms to Antequera.

Further Details:

Good selection of local restaurants and bars in the surrounding area. Minimarkets, banks, chemists and all amenities in Iznajar. Supermarkets at Rute and Antequera. Iznajar, perched on a hill, has an ancient 9th century castle and 16th century restored church. All is within easy reach of the wonderful cities of Granada, Cordoba and Seville. Suitable for walking, riding, birdwatching, fishing and sailing.
