This 17th C.'white village' farmhouse bordering the Guadiaro river is in a peaceful rural location down a country track. It has been sympathetically restored in the traditional style with contrasting interior paintwork, exposed stonework and flagstone floors. The ceiling is made of oak and chestnut wooden beams in the old customary way. The property has four spacious bedrooms, two twin and two doubles. The open plan lounge kitchen diner gives lots of room and is particularly ideal for families. The property is fully equipped with everything one would need!!

Lovely property in good location with great views

We had a wonderful two weeks in El Chopo. The property is lovely, particularly the view to the mountains out the bedroom window. The pool is a fantastic size and the kids had a brilliant time playing in the garden. The surrounding villages are lovely, and the fiestas were really fun to get involved in.

The mountain roads can be a bit hair raising- but this means you get spectacular scenery! We hope to visit again.

Great Place to say.

Had a great time in this charming property. What can I say everything was just right from the views of the surrounding landscape (stunning) to the detail and care taken in the conversion of the house (excellent) and all spotless.

Local facilities are close by, great location to explore the real Spain... just perfect.

Andalucian retreat

We enjoyed an excellent holiday at El Chopo Banda.

A charmingly rustic property (right down to water from the well, use bottled for cooking etc!) has been beautifully converted to a very comfortable and stylish holiday home. The kitchen is particularly well-equipped with good quality appliances and the separate utility room is a bonus.

The major draw, however, must be the lovely pool, garden and covered patio. Can there be a pool with a better view?

It's a great location for walking, exploring Ronda and other attractive local towns and villages and generally adapting to a relaxing Spanish lifestyle. Apart from kayaking we didn't try out the many options for activities in the area - relaxing was just too enjoyable! The local winding roads, the immediate ones are unmade, mean it's probably not the best location if you want to do far-flung exploring.

Both the owner and property manager are very helpful and welcoming and the property was very well presented for our stay.

Spanish Surprise

My first visit to Spain and certainly not my last but my return will be to El Chopo Banda, without a doubt. The lovely building is located in such a beautiful area which we explored on foot and felt no need to go much further afield (though we did and loved it all). The property was clean and had every comfort and enough space to happily accommodate our party which included five adults and three children - all of whom enjoyed the pool (warm, even though the weather wasn't particularly hot), the garden and the barbeque area. Definitely recommended and a big thank you to the owners who are friendly and helpful over the telephone and to their managers who so well look after the property and needs of those of us on holiday. Having run holiday accommodation myself, I appreciate the thought and hard work that has gone into this lovely holiday home. Looking forward to our next visit!

The nearest beach is 45 minutes drive away by car near Manilva.


Gibraltar is the nearest airport being an hour and a quarter's drive away. There are more flights to Malaga which is under two hour's drive away. Other airports within further driving distance are Jerez and Seville. Car hire or use of a car is highly recommended.

Further Details:

Cortes and Estacion de Cortes have a very good selection of shops. There are 4 supermarkets, 2 bakers, a locally grown fruit and vegetable shop, fishmongers, butchers, pharmacy and a 24 hour medical centre. There are numerous other smaller general shops selling local produce and gifts. There is a good variety of restaurants and bars serving typical, excellent local fare. The large choice of tasty tapas at Bar Santos and Bar Sevilla for example have no written menu so you can practise your Spanish! Puerta de Atra tapas bar with views down to the valley is particularly good. The area is ideal for country loving families with fishing, walking, tennis, horse riding, birdwatching, cycling, painting and photography to name but a few activities. The train from Algeciras to Granada (described as one of the 'Great little railways of Europe') stops at Estacion de Cortes en route to Ronda.

  • Notes on accommodation: The property has DAIKIN whisper quiet air-conditioning in the two upstairs bedrooms and room fans in the two downstairs bedrooms. There is a HERGOM log burning stove in the lounge for use in the winter months. The property is a no smoking house. Ideal for country loving families with many of the neighbouring farms keeping animals including chickens, geese, ducks, sheep, goats, horses etc. Outside: The two upstairs bedrooms share a spacious terrace overlooking the garden. The kidney shaped pool with cover and surrounded by lawn, is 11m x 5m and is 0.9m at the shallow end gently sloping from halfway to 2.0m at the deep end. It is open all year. The spacious partly covered cobbled terrace is shaded by vines and a medlar tree and there are sunlongers with cushions, chairs, dining tables and bespoke covered BBQ area with a gas barbecue. The garden has spectacular views up to Cortes and the mountains behind. There is plenty of shade including a large pergola. The terrace leads onto a large level lawned garden planted with quince, plum, apple, pear, apricot, cherry, almond, olive and even walnut trees! Utility Room: Washing machine, tumble-drier, drinks fridge, ironing board, outdoor games equipment. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen and towels provided for house and the pool. The property has maid service once a week for cleaning and changing.
