Sleeps 8 - 4 en suite bedrooms. A very special place of charm and atmosphere among the historic monuments, 5 min to main square.

Villa Moritos was originally a 16th century Conquistador’s mansion and has been restored to combine a wealth of original features with spacious modern living.

The accommodation is presented on ground floor level throughout, with spacious bedrooms and comfortable living areas opening on to gardens with spectacular 180 degree views of the countryside towards Portugal and the Gredos Mountains.

The gardens are peaceful and romantic, lined with jasmine, blue plumbago, trees and flowers, with several seating areas and a large outdoor dining terrace under a canopy of wisteria. The sunsets over the unspoilt panorama are glorious.

The villa has a private swimming pool which is exclusive to the property (not shared). There is a Weber BBQ, rattan sunloungers and garden furniture provided.

Guest wifi, housekeeping and gardener service included. There is free on-street parking just outside the property. A generous welcome pack is provided on arrival, including meet & greet service in English. Home cooked villa menu is available on request.

The perfect villa in unspoilt Spain

We wanted to be surrounded by nature, tranquillity and the beauty of the countryside but not stuck in the middle of nowhere. We had read about Extremadura and it was obvious that Trujillo was the gem of the region. As soon as we saw Villa Moritos on the owner’s website, we knew we had found something special and were excited at the prospect of a holiday there. We weren’t disappointed!

The property and gardens are simply beautiful and exceeded our expectations. The website and photos really don’t do it justice. The bedrooms are large with high quality beds and linen. The air-conditioning and en-suite bathrooms a welcome bonus. Every room in the house has French doors overlooking the gardens and the astounding views.

The accommodation strikes the perfect balance between luxury, comfort and cosiness.Our personal favourite was the terrace outside the master bedroom, where we had breakfast every day and at night enjoyed gazing at stars whilst taking in the beautiful scent of jasmine and orange blossom. Every sunset was different and spectacular! Not to be missed!

During the day, we relaxed in the magical gardens enjoying stunning uninterrupted views of the countryside. Surrounded by storks, eagles, and buzzards you can’t help but be transported back in time. The swimming pool kept all ages entertained and we ate our meals in the outdoor dining terrace which is takes al fresco dining to a whole new level. For an extra bonus, we treated ourselves to the in-house villa menu which was well worth the experience, home cooked local delicacies and the best creamy tortilla we have ever eaten!

We also visited the sights in Extremadura, well worth the short drive! We’d recommend the Roman ruins at Merida and wildlife at Monfrague.

We found the experience friendly and professional from the outset. Nothing was too much trouble for Angela and her team and we were made to feel welcome from our initial enquiry onwards. Trujillo is “unspoilt Spain” at its best and Villa Moritos one of the most wonderful villas we have ever stayed in! We would highly recommend a stay and look forward to returning for another holiday, even if it’s just the two of us. The owners also offer a small group rate. Unbeatable!

Villa Moritos in Trujillo is the perfect location for authors, painters, walkers and those interested in history, architecture, culture, birdwatching, good eating and wild unspoilt countryside. The area is famous for bird life, eagle owls, eagles, vultures etc. We have many keen bird watchers who return year after year.

Or come and practice your Spanish, it's a great place to learn the language!

The villa offers the perfect spot for easy access for all the area has to offer, there are some great day trips and places to explore all within 45-60 minutes drive from Trujillo. Explore nearby World Heritage towns such as Merida, Caceres, Guadalupe and many others. Also visit Monfrague National Park to view eagles, black vultures and see exceptional local birdlife including the rare Great and Little Bustard.

Trujillo is one of the area’s most important historic and cultural towns and considered as Extremadura’s finest gem. The town dates back to 600BC and is famed for its strategic involvement in the discovery of the Americas and is the birthplace of the Conquistadors including Hernán Cortes (1485-1547) who conquered the Aztec Empire, Francisco Pizarro (1471-1541) who conquered the Inca Empire and founded Lima and Francisco de Orellana (1464-1536) who discovered the Amazon.

There are many artisan shops around Trujillo which sell the delicious local produce, delicious hams from the iberico pigs, cheeses, paprika, honey and local wines. There is a wonderful weekly local market, which happens every Thursday. Trujillo is host to the National Spanish Cheese Festival which happens annually in May and is a must-see for cheese lovers. The festival was recommended by Conde Nast Traveller and Harpers Bazaar magazines.

The best restaurants in Trujillo are in the main square. In summer months, the restaurants serve dinner outside on the main square itself which is an unforgettable experience. Enjoy reasonably priced local cuisine and delicious wines with a 360 degree view of the wondrous architecture as the backdrop.
