About the property

Farmhouse, East of Vire, Calvados, France - Rural Location, Close to Bustling Market Town of Vire

'Les Moulins' is a traditional stone farmhouse set in ¾ acre and surrounded by farmland. Vire is 6 miles West where there is a good choice of shops and restaurants. Close to most ports - Caen is a 50 mins drive and Cherbourg, Le Havre, St Malo are 90 mins away. The house is comfortably furnished and very well equipped. With full central heating and a wood burner in a traditional granite fireplace. The western and D-Day beaches, Mont St Michel and Bayeux are all within an hour drive. The beautiful scenery and outdoor activities of Suisse Normande are also close by. The large grounds are mostly grassed and fully enclosed so it is safe for all ages of children. There are bikes for all ages and plenty of outdoor things to throw, hit and play with. And there is plenty of parking space! There is also a basketball hoop for active teenagers. About The Owner

We have been travelling to France (as well as many other places) regularly for the last 40 years. Les Moulins is as French as it can be but with an English feel in the decorations and equipment.

It is not a typical 'gite' as it is our 'second home', and so it has lots of home comforts not normally found in rental properties.

Guests will find that as well as the house being extremely comfortable, we are happy to discuss special requests (like a christmas tree in December) if it helps make your holiday more special.

And as far as possible, we try to have all the small things provided - such as kitchen roll, washing up liquid - because we realise that you won't want to spend the first day of your holiday searching supermarkets for boring stuff.

The Owner purchased this farmhouse in 2003

Why The Owner chose Lower Normandy

We wanted a typical stone farmhouse that was structurally first class, in a reasonable size garden, in the country (for peace and quiet) but near a decent town.

And since nothing is perfect - you can't be very close to all the attractions, beaches etc - something in Central Normandy would be fine.

Most of the Normandy attractions are within an hour's drive - and we can even get to Le Mans (for the 24hr race) in two hours.

So whether you're a 'petrol head', country lover or golfer, its all pretty close to a peacefull and comfortable house.

Spacious and comfortable, in a lovely location

We have been lucky enough to stay here on many occasions over the past few years and are again looking forward to our stay with friends in September 2015.

The property is exactly as described in a lovely setting.

The property is always clean when we arrive and is well maintained.

Communication with the owner is always very good.

The property is in a nice quiet country setting allowing for quiet evenings and country walks whilst also being close enough to reach the towns, markets and tourist spots of Normandy.

The perfect home from home

From reading the initial information on the website about the property (and believe me i read a lot and did thorough research) i knew this was the holiday property for our stay, not only did i think it was incredible value for money, compared to other similar properties, I needed a property to suite the wide and varied needs of my family from my 70 year old father to my 1 year old son, this property catered for us all in abundance - plenty of toilet facilities, excellent lay out with the additional conservatory, the extensive grounds, the amazing location and the brilliant range of outdoor games and activities for the children to name just a few, we really couldn't ask for anything more. The Owners where so friendly and could not have made the whole booking process any easier if they tried. All the family were really looking forward to the stay and the arrival was made even more enjoyable when we turned up to find an excellent welcome pack and ice creams in the freezer for the children (they didn't last very long) the beds made and towels provided at no extra cost! This property is so homely and leaves you wanting literally for nothing, it really did feel like a true home from home. We even enjoyed returning to the property after our days exploring this beautiful area to soak up the last rays of the summer sun in one of the numerous out door seating areas, the alfresco dining was truly lovely and watching the children running around the huge garden and making extensive use of the paddling pool was very satisfying. I really could not fault any part of our stay at this property and my 3 year old daughter confirmed it by saying she never wanted to leave and wanted to stay there forever! I agreed, my only wish i had was that we should have booked for longer.

Notes on accommodation: Large flat(ish) lawned gardens, fully enclosed, ideal for children. We also have a thatched summer house in the garden, which is great for eating, drinking wine or just relaxing in. A conservatory also provides a comfortable space for reading, eating or just lazing. Parents can sit with a glass of wine whilst children race around the garden. Outside: Large gravelled areas and lawns with apple trees front and back of the house. Garden table and chairs, loungers, and teak benches. As well as bikes and barbecue. The summer house is perfect for eating outside, or just sitting and relaxing. Utility Room: Washing machine, small washhand basin, central heating boiler, outdoor games. House cleaned at changeover, but guests make the beds. 'Spare' keys in keysafe - in case of 'emergency'!
