About the property

About The Owner

We have been travelling to France (as well as many other places) regularly for the last 40 years. Les Moulins is as French as it can be but with an English feel in the decorations and equipment.

It is not a typical 'gite' as it is our 'second home', and so it has lots of home comforts not normally found in rental properties.

Guests will find that as well as the house being extremely comfortable, we are happy to discuss special requests (like a christmas tree in December) if it helps make your holiday more special.

And as far as possible, we try to have all the small things provided - such as kitchen roll, washing up liquid - because we realise that you won't want to spend the first day of your holiday searching supermarkets for boring stuff.

The Owner purchased this farmhouse in 2003

Why The Owner chose Presles

We wanted a typical stone farmhouse that was structurally first class, in a reasonable size garden, in the country (for peace and quiet) but near a decent town.

And since nothing is perfect - you can't be very close to all the attractions, beaches etc - something in Central Normandy would be fine.

Most of the Normandy attractions are within an hour's drive - and we can even get to Le Mans (for the 24hr race) in two hours.

So whether you're a 'petrol head', country lover or golfer, its all pretty close to a peacefull and comfortable house.

What makes this farmhouse unique

The space!

The peace and quiet!

The wine and cheese!

Blissfull nights' sleep.

(mostly) fresh air (farms can be less than fresh at times).

Clear skys at night (little light polution).

The wonderfully slow pace of Normandy life.

Guestbook comments from the owner

'A super house with plenty to do inside and out' - Jo MacDaniel.

'It's so peaceful here we can't remember the last time we slept so well' - The Foyles.

'A comfortable house in a beautiful location. We love this part of Normandy' - The Wyldes.

Spacious and comfortable, in a lovely location

  • 5 of 5

We have been lucky enough to stay here on many occasions over the past few years and are again looking forward to our stay with friends in September 2015.

The property is exactly as described in a lovely setting.

The property is always clean when we arrive and is well maintained.

Communication with the owner is always very good.

The property is in a nice quiet country setting allowing for quiet evenings and country walks whilst also being close enough to reach the towns, markets and tourist spots of Normandy.

The perfect home from home

  • 5 of 5

From reading the initial information on the website about the property (and believe me i read a lot and did thorough research) i knew this was the holiday property for our stay, not only did i think it was incredible value for money, compared to other similar properties, I needed a property to suite the wide and varied needs of my family from my 70 year old father to my 1 year old son, this property catered for us all in abundance - plenty of toilet facilities, excellent lay out with the additional conservatory, the extensive grounds, the amazing location and the brilliant range of outdoor games and activities for the children to name just a few, we really couldn't ask for anything more. The Owners where so friendly and could not have made the whole booking process any easier if they tried. All the family were really looking forward to the stay and the arrival was made even more enjoyable when we turned up to find an excellent welcome pack and ice creams in the freezer for the children (they didn't last very long) the beds made and towels provided at no extra cost! This property is so homely and leaves you wanting literally for nothing, it really did feel like a true home from home. We even enjoyed returning to the property after our days exploring this beautiful area to soak up the last rays of the summer sun in one of the numerous out door seating areas, the alfresco dining was truly lovely and watching the children running around the huge garden and making extensive use of the paddling pool was very satisfying. I really could not fault any part of our stay at this property and my 3 year old daughter confirmed it by saying she never wanted to leave and wanted to stay there forever! I agreed, my only wish i had was that we should have booked for longer.

Special interest holidays:

For thrill seekers, there is bungy jumping and extreme 'zip' lines at the viaduct Souleuvre (Designed by Mr Eiffel), or for more cautious folk there are several local 'Velo-rails' - where you can travel along disused railways. Great fun for all the family - but be prepared for some extended 'pedalling' !

The zoo at Jurques (15 minutes away) is also very 'family friendly', having a superb range of animals, but being pretty compact (so won't tire out children, or adults, too much)

Suisse Normande, and the river Orne is close by (falaise direction - east) where there are opportunities for various outdoor activities such as canooing, trekking.

For the technically minded, the bell foundry at Villedieux is superb, and the old viaduct at Soulevre (Mr Eiffel) is a masterpiece of 19th century engineering.

D-day beaches an hour's drive away. Western beaches (Granville area) an hour's drive. Mont-St-Michel (world heritage site) is just over an hour away, and if you have time, the nearby aligator farm is well worth a visit!

Dinard airport (near St Malo) is a 90 min drive. All the Normandy ports (St Malo, Cherbourg, Caen, Le Havre) are within 90 mins drive.

Brittany Ferries to Caen is the quickest route in France but can be expensive. However, whilst Dover-Calais is often much cheaper, the drive to Vire takes around four to five hours.

Vire is 6 miles west. Nearest village is Estry 1½ mile with bar, shop and post office. Bayeux and Caen are 40 mins drive. Mont St Michel is just over an hour away. There are lots of local attractions such as a goat farm, cheese and cider makers, and the bell foundry at Villedieu-les-Poeles.

Further Details:

All banks have branches in Vire and there are 3 large supermarkets (all have fuel). Many restaurants and a Friday market. This area has many historical sites from WW2 and there are well sign-posted driving tours. For thrill seekers, there is an outdoor centre at the Viaduct Souleuvre which features a death-defying zip line, a terrifying 200 foot 'swing' and a bungy jump facility - all operating from what remains of a fantastic bridge/viaduct designed by Mr Eiffel.
