About Sue and Dave Haydon

Myself and my wife Sue live in Swindon Wiltshire, I am a retired Company Director who now helps growing companies to expand and keep them on the right tracks. My wife Sue is a Chartered Accountant and runs her practice from our home. We have two children who are now in thier early twenties.

Sue and Dave Haydon purchased this apartment in 1995

Why Sue and Dave Haydon chose Tavira region

We bought our apartment some 19 years ago so that we could enjoy family holidays whilst our children were growing up as it is such a safe enviroment. The complex is ideal as it has a great bar and restuarant on site, and three swimming pools. The area of Tavira is one of the nicest areas of Portugal. Even though it has expanded there are still authentic Portugese bars etc, and the area by the harbour and old fish market is a lovely place

What makes this apartment unique

We recently invested 20,000 euros in our Apartment and completely refitted all fixtures and fittings. With the apartment being on the ground floor it offers peace of mind for those with young children.

Our apartment overlooks the childrens play area and it is lovely sitting on the balcony with a beer whilst the children play in the playground

A super holiday!

  • 5 of 5

Our first time to Portugal and we picked a winner!

The apartment was spacious, clean and with all mod cons...the complex was great, with access to the pools and bar/restaurant area nearby. Really good toasted sandwiches at lunchtime!

We found the local supermarket very handy, being only a max 10 minutes walk. There was also a much larger supermarket and shopping mall some 5 minutes further on. All in all no problem for provisions!

A 15 minute walk got you into Tavira town. A very pretty old place with plenty of bars, good quality restaurants, shops and history to keep everyone happy. A taxi ride and then ferry to Tavira Island is a highly recommended day out!

I must say that the management lady, Rachel was really helpful, especially with the organisation of taxis and explaining the local setup etc.

Thanks to all involved though, this was a great holiday and really good fun!!

Ideal for all!

  • 5 of 5

This trip was my first time to Tavira and I don't think it will be my last. Tavira is a very scenic place with a lovely river running through the middle, you can still catch some of the Portuguese heritage here and watch cockle pickers in the river and the fishing boats coming in. Aswell as this there is a very welcoming atmosphere, we went to one particular restaurant 'Patios' where the waiters were extremely friendly and the food was delicious. The beaches around Tavira are also lovely but the pool area is also just as good so you have many options on where to base yourself. The apartments is very spacious and the balcony an added extra for luching/dining in the evening. The apartment contains everything you need if you wish to dine in rather than going out all the time. I would recommend this apartment to all.

We'll be back!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a week in March, the weather wasn't ideal but we still found lots of things to do. The apartment is in a great location so we were able to go on day trips to surrounding sights such as Parque Natural do Vale do Guadiana which had stunning views. The apartment is very modern inside and Tavira gardens itself is a very welcoming environment. The town of Tavira is very tranquil and not too touristy. There are plenty of small family run restaurants to choose from that all serve great food, many of these are recommended in the apartment booklet. It also boasts a couple of bars so that if you fancy a drink in the evening this is also possible, the town is only a 20 min walk away so no need to worry about allocating a driver either! Overall a great place to visit and ideal for all, we have even booked to go back in September!

Ideal Apartment

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here for one week and found no faults in anything that we wished to achieve. Apartment is tastefully furnished in a very quiet location, while at the same time having access to a swimming pool area with sun loungers and snack bar / restaurant. Golf courses and Tavira Town are easily accessible, and nearest supermarket is only 2 minutes away.

Apartment was spotlessly clean with all equipment in good order. Small private veranda was our favourite place for al fresco dining and just chilling in the evening air.

The coast of Tavira is located within the Ria Formosa National Park. The clean uncrowded sandy Isla de Tavira beach is one of the largest and best beaches in the Algarve, with EC Blue Flag status, and can be reached by a charming short ferry trip from Tavira town or by a little journey on the holiday train at Barril. There are also many other enormous clean sandy mainland beaches all along the coast, as far as the Spanish border to the east or Faro to the west, none of which is ever overcrowded.

Faro Airport is approximately 35km away. We can organise airport transfers for you with a local high quality taxi firm at a discounted price. Car hire can be arranged with a local company, to collect at Faro Airport if required at no extra charge - but a car is definitely not essential for the enjoyment of your holiday. Bicycle hire is available in the town. Local buses and trains cover a wide area. Buses from Tavira bus garage go far afield including to Seville and other Spanish destinations.

The unspoiled coastal villages of Santa Luzia, Cabanas, Cacela Velha and Fuzeta are all a 5-10 min drive away (also reached by bus or train) - all with huge clean sandy beaches which are never over-crowded even in summer. The beautiful hills and villages of the Serra do Caldeirão are just a few km north. The Spanish border is approx 30km east, where the border castles, delightful old villages and broad River Guadiana are well worth exploring.

Further Details:

The nearest supermarket is approx 100 metres away (open 7 days per week 9am-9pm). The nearest bakers, cafés, post office, newsagent, chemist, other small shops and cash point are approx 700 metres away. There is a large daily market in the town, selling delicious local produce, fruit/vegetables, meat and fish.

It's just a short walk from Tavira Garden to the delightful old town areas, harbour, fishing port and Roman Bridge. Stroll round the maze of cobbled streets and alleyways in Tavira to search out the little shops, restaurants and bars. This beautiful and historic part of the Algarve has not been discovered by many tourists, and is untouched by any 'yob culture'.

Internet facilities are available in the Tavira Garden restaurant, also at several places in town, and the old covered market is a WiFi zone. There is a Tourist Information office in town near the medieval castle.
