About Sandra and Stuart Kerton

Stuart, Sandra and our son live in Somerset in the south west of England, very close to Glastonbury. We love France and the very relaxed lifestyle and bought our farmhouse and gite in 2005.

We love to spend time in France but are restricted with being able to get away from work, but we look forward to the time when we can spend more time in france.

We have had some fantastic times with our french neighbours, who are so friendly and help us to look after the house while we are back in the UK. We have had some special evenings with our neighbours including eating snails picked from our own garden.

The property is a very peaceful place, where you can relax in peace and quiet taking in the fabulous views. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Sandra and Stuart Kerton purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Sandra and Stuart Kerton chose Siecq

We spent about 3 years looking for our property starting in the Dordogne, and then moving up to the Charente Maritime.

We love the Charente as it is ideal for beaches, great French towns, with countryside full of sunflowers and vines, making you feel as if you are really engrossed in the french wine making countryside.

Well placed, and easy to get to in a day, not too far down from the ports or easy access to airports, Bordeaux, La Rochelle, Limoges, Poitiers and Angueleme.

What makes this cottage unique

We have had some wonderful comments from our guests, and many return bookings.

As it is our second home, you will find all the little gadgets to make your stay easy, and hopefully not wanting for anything. We do ask all out guests after they have visited how we could improve and after 9 years of visitors, we think you will find all that you need.

A little piece of paradise!

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we arrived to the time we had to depart, Sandra and Stuart were the perfect hosts. The stable gite was perfect for our needs - the open layout of the kitchen/lounge made it fun to be cooking whilst watching all the 2016 Olympic action. The kitchen had everything you could possibly need - a really nice oven and hob, together with all the utensils you can think of! Having a dishwasher was also a bit of a luxury for us! The beds were really comfy and once you had got the hang of keeping the shutters closed during the day - it was amazing how cool it remained inside the gite, even though the temperature outside was in the 30s!

The pool and trampoline were a big hit with our teenage son and within hours he had almost perfected his front/back flip!

Every morning we would see Stuart uncovering the pool and making sure it was all clean and ready for use - thank you! Sandra would also be on hand to make sure we had everything we needed.

We spent most of the week lounging around in the gite, on the terrace and around the pool - with a couple of trips out to Saintes and Coulon (great boat hire!).

We were very sad to leave and would certainly recommend this property to anyone looking for a relaxing week in beautiful surroundings.

Thank you to Stuart and Sandra for making us feel very welcome and for introducing us to Pineau! We would love to come back again one day!

A home from home

  • 5 of 5

After two weeks on a campsite we were totally ready to chill and the Stable Gite was perfect. The directions were simple and the description of the location was accurate. It was very quiet with virtually no passing traffic. The nearest amenities were in the village about 4 minutes in the car, where there was a patisserie, co op, tabac and visiting fish and meat van most mornings. The nearby hamlet, Massac, was so quiet it was almost silent..... Perhaps it was the French holidays. Having said that the actual property and main house, bath, garden and pool were superb and nothing could be improved. The Gite was superbly equipped and clean and the kids played with all the games and equipment - inflatable scrabble board was a real hit, in the barn. We cycled most evenings around the sunflower fields and vineyards.

In seven days we took four days out - to the lido at Cognac and the surrounding riverside, eating at the lovely restaurant in the plein air area. We also went to Coulon, about an hours drive away and enjoyed some punting........ Another good day trip was to Palmeyre zoo and the great beach of St Palais. Otherwise we lay by the pool and had lazy lunches. We only crossed over with the guests in the main house once as we seemed to be out alternate days by coincidence, so felt like we had the place to ourselves.

We would definitely recommend this property to family and friends or an extended family / family gathering etc. the weather incidentally was lovely, cloudy and sunny, one electric storm but plenty of sun and sunbathing!

Gite at Fondouce in the Charente

  • 5 of 5

Set in picturesque countryside, about 10 minutes drive from nearest amenities. The gite was clean and well maintained with all facilities that you might require. The children loved the well proportioned and well maintained pool and the games facilities, including table tennis, darts, large trampoline, a full size pool table and bikes in a variety of sizes to explore the tranquil area.

Beautiful places to visit included Saintes, Bordeaux, La Rochelle and the Isle de Re which were between 30 minutes and 1hour 30 minutes away - many more places left unexplored!

The owners of the property were welcoming and helpful as were the local residents who oversee the property in their absence. We would visit again!
