About the property

Lovingly restored townhouse in Vejer de la Frontera, Costa de la Luz

Casa Relinque is a caringly renovated Moorish house just a five-minute walk from the old town’s centrepiece – the Plaza de Espana, which is a popular meeting place with many Spanish-style bars and restaurants. We are quite proud of its position and that's one reason why we fell in love with it - there are not many houses of this size in the old town. The house boasts three large bedrooms (two twins and one double), two bathrooms (one en-suite for the two twin rooms and one en-suite for the double room), a large kitchen and eating area, a separate lounge and a central hall-type area. From here we have installed a wrought iron spiral staircase that leads up to the roof terrace. Believe it or not from this description, Casa Relinque is built all on one level - just a few steps up from the street. This means it's brilliant for families and groups because it's easily accessible for all ages and everyone can enjoy the space provided.

Asa Relinque has its own private roof terrace and courtyard with purpose-built covered area, which is perfect for cooling off or fixing a drink in the midday sun or as the sun goes down after a hot day. Asa Relinque also has its own private swimming pool in the rear courtyard measuring 3x5m and with varying depths to cater for small children (the shallow end is just 80cm deep and the "deep" end is 1.5m). To one side of the pool area is a sheltered area, which we tend to use for eating. We have a gas-fuelled barbecue here too, which is perfect for entertaining. Casa Relinque is perfectly situated for the Easter Bull Run (it overlooks it) and it is conveniently located just a 3 minute car drive from from the local supermarket.

About The Owner

We met at a publishing company in London and we were both looking for something beyond the frantic rat-race of life in the big smoke! And Vejer de la Frontera was (and still is) the perfect tonic. A world away from the madding crowds on the Costa del Sol, Vejer lies in the heart of beautiful Andalucia and just a few miles from some of the most idyllic, peaceful and unspoilt coastline in Europe.

Why The Owner chose Vejer de la Frontera

Like most people, we wanted the perfect property. Close enough to shops and bars to give us some sense of civilisation, but with enough character and charm to enable us to get stuck into the Spanish life. We looked at rural fincas and villas but kept coming back to the white-walled hilltop village of Vejer. Then we went to have a look at 55 Juan Relinque - and bought it! It had all the character you could ever want, most of it in dire need of restoration. So we donned our best DIY clothes and got stuck in and with more than a little help from a local builder, we transformed the property into what it is today.

What makes this house unique

We've seen and been into plenty of properties in Vejer and I still think that ours has some extra-special features. Of course we're biased, but the fact that all the rooms are on one level and covering more than 250sqm, means that you can have 8 or 10 people in the house and you never feel like you're on top of each other. Yet despite it's size, you can walk into town in a few minutes and indulge in some fine Spanish tapas!

I can't recommend this house highly enough!! Spacious, clean and so well equipped! Great outdoor patio area with a lovely pool to cool down after walks through beautiful Vejer. Plenty of space and a large roof terrace ideal for sunbathing, dining and late night drinks, with amazing views of the old town area of Vejer. The house is done out in style and well looked after. A small shop for your daily shopping needs virtually on your doorstep and restaurants and bars within very easy walking distance. We spent two weeks here in the house in September and loved every minute of it! We have already booked our next stay, I think that says it all!

Notes on accommodation: There are de-humidifiers and convector/fan heaters in each room. The house is also equipped with an iPod-compatible stereo, ironing board and iron, hairdryer, coolboxes and picnic utensils, plus a wide range of beach gear including lilos, buckets and spades, deckchairs, boogie boards and parasols. Outside: The private patio area is paved with rustic tiles and comprises a 5m x 3m swimming pool with corner Roman steps (max depth 1.5m). There is both outdoor and underwater lighting in the pool. There are four hardwood steamer sunbeds and there is also a purpose-built covered area, under which is a hardwood patio table and six chairs for poolside dining. The new roof terrace provides majestic views of the Vejer old town and the street below (Juan Relinque - ideal for the Easter bull run) and is furnished with another patio table with six chairs and a matching umbrella. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen and towels are provided and changed weekly. Pool towels are also provided (not to be used for beach). The house is thoroughly cleaned prior to arrival. Other: Extensive paperback library and board games available. There are hand-made terracotta floor tiles throughout, Morroccan-style mirrors, hand-stained furniture and ornamental lanterns. The dining room has a large oak table and six dining chairs

Perfect house in Vejer

The house is perfectly located just a few minutes walk from the centre of town.

We love Vejer which has a unique atmosphere with some fantastic restaurants and interesting shops. The house is spacious and very well equipped and has great views over the old town from the roof terrace. Having a gorgeous pool in such a centrally located property was just the icing on the cake!

Perfect property, perfect stay

Absolutely loved the house! Even better than it looked online, and the pool was fantastic - far bigger and deeper than we expected. Lying by our own private pool was so relaxing, and eating breakfast and lunch in the shady area beside it was a wonderful experience. The house is really well equipped and I can't think of a single item that we needed that wasn't provided.

There were only two of us but the house would sleep six- with one double and four single beds and two bathrooms. Loads of sofas as well and plenty of space to spread out.

Barbecue area with a large table and chairs and a gas barbecue, though we were too lazy to make use of it. Ditto a roof terrace with sun beds and another large table and chairs which we didn't use as we had so much space for the two of us downstairs! The kitchen was really well-equipped, but we didn't bother cooking so can't really comment on the cooker, dishwasher etc but they looked very new and modern.

Vejer is a beautiful town and there were so many restaurants and tapas places on our doorstep we just ate out most of the time, but it would be easy to self-cater for a larger family.

I was delighted to find one bathroom had a bath as well as a shower. Huge DVD collection which would be great if the weather wasn't good.

All in all a wonderful property and a wonderful stay. If we are back in Vejer any time, this would be our first choice- in fact I don't think I would go back if this property wasn't available, as it was perfect,

Perfect Vejer Retreat

While Vejer has captured our hearts, Kim and Andrew's home has enabled us to immerse ourselves in this captivating setting with ease year after year. Positioned inside Vejer’s historic Old Town, the home is ideally situated in the direction of New Town. This central location makes for an easy walk to both the major grocery stores in the New Town, and the restaurants, boutiques, and landmarks of the Old Town. Further, it’s distance from the cathedral bells guarantees a good night’s sleep.

The three bedroom home has been beautifully updated to include modern bathroom and kitchen facilities, wifi, and air conditioning all while maintaining its centuries-old Moorish architectural influence. The home’s crowning jewel is without doubt it’s central patio pool. Unlike most pools in Vejer, this one basks in full sunlight for the majority of the afternoon. The covered adjacent outdoor dining area provides shade for those seeking refuge from the sun’s rays. Add to all of this the spectacular upper patio view, and you have a gem of a property in Vejer that will set the stage for an unforgetable vacation/retreat.

Wonderful spacious house with great pool with privacy and fantastic views over the old town from the roof terrace! Clean and well equipped. Ideal home away from home. Needless to say we are returning later this year. Can't recommend highly enough!!

Special interest holidays:

Vejer de la Frontera is a stunning white-walled hilltop village (pueblo blanco). It is steeped in history and as as result is popular with historians, writers and painters. There is a range of local restaurants and bars to explore, all just a short walk away. The market sells fresh local produce and fish, and is less than 5 minutes' walk away. There is also a large supermarket close to the house, plus a bakery, several banks and the tourist information centre. There are locally organised groups for mountain-biking and walking available in season.

Casa Relinque benefits from a great location situated on the longest street in the town, Juan Relinque. The house also has a prime vantage point for many festivals and overlooks the Easter weekend bull run.

Coast/Beach:

The nearest beaches are El Palmar and Canos de Meca about a 10-minute drive from the house. These unspolit beaches are beautiful with white sand and clear water. Surfing, windsurfing, and kitesurfing are available. Just a few miles further up the coast you'll find Conil de la Frontera and La Barrosa, both very well equipped with on-beach restaurants and showers.

Travel:

Nearest airport is Jerez, approximately 1 hour drive away. Ryanair fly direct from Stansted. Gibraltar is approximately 1 hour away also served by Gibraltar/BA/Iberia, Seville airport is approximately 1 hour 30 min drive, served by BA; Malaga is 2 hours away served by Easyjet, BA. A hire car is a good idea to make the most of the local towns and beaches, suppliers include Auriga Crown and Niza. Parking is available just 50 yards from the house.

Distances:

The house is positioned in the popular old town and is the perfect base for exploring all the town's tourist attractions on foot, including the church and castle.
