About the Owner

We fell in love with Spain many years ago via package holidays on the Costas and then further exploration inland. It was always a dream to have our own place and we managed this in 2002 opting for the old area of the town rather than the beach but this suits us fine! We are both from careers in Human Resources and the Courts Service and are now able to spend more time at the house relaxing, exploring and cooking with the great selection of fresh ingredients available.

Oliva Town House

The outside space to the house was a bonus, private courtyard off kitchen, private mid terrace off rear bedroom leading to a fair sized roof terrace (not in any shade from sunrise to sunset) with far reaching views all round and still secluded. All the information you would need to make your stay in and around the town has been laid out in a comprehensive welcome pack. Car parking at top of road 2 minutes away. We found the owners friendly and very communicative and easily reached and will be staying again in the near future. You can easily become lost in the maze of narrow streets but the size of the town and the friendliness of both the locals and ex pats make it an enjoyable experience plus there is plenty of free wifi in bars and restaurants. Also good local supermarkets with pricing to match for those on a tight budget. LoveLLLLLLLLY James and Galina

Great Getaway in a typical Spanish town

We stayed for 3 weeks in September 2014 and consider this a lovely getaway in a typical old style Spanish town. The house is lovely and traditional with terrific terraces (not perhaps great for small kids as owners say), but its very roomy and well equipped. Pelut bar round the corner is very friendly, with both Spanish and English customers. The house feels loved and welcoming with lots of pot plants (kept us busy with watering) and has a great atmosphere which make it feel a home from home. We would definitely recommend this for a traditional Spanish holiday and hope to re-visit. Many thanks for a lovely holiday.

Lovely spanish townhouse

The house is small and quaint, very Spanish, a delight to stay in. The facilities were very good and as described, the views from the roof terrace are excellent, though the house is not suitable for young children. It was really good that there was air conditioning and a fan in the bedrooms.

The local people both Brits and Spanish were very friendly and helpful. There is convenient parking at the top of the street (not always true in the old part of town). There is a good bar/restauraunt 2 minutes walk away with internet access ( a good excuse to spend an hour or two there!), the fresh sardines are to be recommended.

The old town is beautiful and wonderful for walking around as long as you are reasonably fit (I had a knee replacement 3.5 months ago and coped). The lovely beaches are 20-30 minutes walk or 10 minute drive away. There is easy access (by car) to nearby towns and hills. There are excellent walks and cycle rides in nearby hills, but be warned the Spanish take their cycling seriously, they have priority in the hills and on the Saturday we saw more cyclists than cars! The roads are excellent and empty compared to here, so the driving was easier than we thought once we'd had a bit of practice. I'd recommend you buying a map in Britain before coming out as they are hard to come by in Spain. The dual place names (Catalan and Spanish) can cause confusion at first.

The only compromise is the traffic noise, the cars are loud as they are coming up a steep hill, but we slept in the front bedroom and did not find it a problem.

We had a lovely holiday and look forward to going again.

a charming place

We liked the location, a typically Spanish house in the middle of the old town.

The house was well equipped but not very luxurious. The terraces were very nice, with a barbeque . We had a very nice stay , especially we liked Bar Restuarant El Pelut. We can recommend this for people who seeks the Spanish atmosphere. It's a short distance to the centre of the town, to the supermarket, etc.....

We love the town as tourism is not its prime industry so you feel a part of the real Spain. This said, the beach is lovely and never really overcrowded, a bit busier on weekends when local families use the beach but there's plenty of room for everyone! It's about 8 mins drive from the house and is great for winter walks as well as summer swimming and sunbathing. The town has a great selection of bars and restaurants and is well placed if you want to travel further afield to Valencia, Alicante or live it up in Benidorm! The winter sun and the oranges growing in the groves in January just lifts the spirits. The drive from the airports at Valencia or Alicante are just about an hour making even a long weekend worthwhile

Less than 10 minutes drive to sandy, gently sloping, Blue Flag beach. Beach bars operate in high season. Choice of bars and restaurants just off beach operate all year. Outdoor pool (high season) and large indoor pool (all year) in town centre. Childrens activities; beach, water parks, safari park and caves, theme parks in Benidorm.

There is easy access to the countryside for walking lovers

Travel:

70 minutes drive from Alicante or Valencia airports - house is 5 minutes from motorway exit.

Car hire is recommended for making the most of your holiday.

Distances:

The lovely city of Valencia accessible by car (70 mins) or train (45mins)

Coastal towns of Denia (20 mins), Altea and Benidorm 45 mins drive. In late February the almond blossom in the Jalon Valley is a beautiful sight - just half an hour away.

A great base for relaxing or exploring the "real" Spain coastal or mountain scenery. Route books/ideas available for walkers. Modern town centre has choice of supermarkets and local shops and good choice of bars and restaurants. Weekly outdoor market selling fresh local produce, hardware and textiles. The size of the house is just fine for 4 - and not too much work for the 2 of us when we visit! By equipping the house to a good standard, we have tried to make it a home from home for ourselves and for our family and guests to enjoy as well. The roof terrace gives views over the town whilst the courtyard with its BBQ area gives privacy for outdoor dining. We are happy to consider pets with their considerate owners for a small extra charge. The local bar restaurant is excellent value for money and only round the corner - used by Spanish and Brits alike!.(Sometimes it's too handy !!) We have Spanish and British neighbours which gives a nice feel to the street.
