Description

Anna's House (2 bedrooms, sleeps 4)

Anna's House is a small restored traditional farmhouse named in memory of Anna Giorni a proud woman who lived in it all her life with her husband Giulio. A pretty house, which has recently been carefully restored it is very light and airy with beautiful views up the valley and across the meadows and woods.

With a kitchen, sitting room on the first floor, it also has a bathroom and a large double bedroom on the second floor together with a sleeping gallery under the eaves reached by a second staircase. It is therefore ideal for a couple or family of four, depending on the age of the children; (we will be pleased to advise on suitability. It has its own entrance but is also connected to the main Farmhouse next door. If necessary the two houses can be rented together to accommodate up to 12 people in what is then a very spacious house.

It is centrally heated and also has a wood burning stove in the sitting room. It has a fully equipped kitchen with hob, oven and fridge.

About the property

IT428

Pischiano is a former small farm, consisting of a large traditional Tuscan farmhouse, a small old farmhouse called Anna's House and a converted traditional Barn set in its own fields and woods, in a delightful setting on the slopes of the Alpe della Luna; the Mountains of the Moon, just above Sansepolcro in the upper Tiber Valley in eastern Tuscany. It is situated above a stream, surrounded by meadows and overlooks the beautiful Afra valley with views across wooded hills. We have carefully and simply restored and furnished the houses in order to retain their original character while providing comfortable accommodation all year round.

The Farmhouse and Anna's House are attached to each other (with a lockable interconnecting door), while the Barn is set apart on a lower level directly overlooking the pool. Each has its own terrace or pergola. Pischiano has an extensive area of meadow and woodland for use by guests.

Catered breaks are now available in late Spring and Autumn.

About Suzanna Hopwood

We grew to love Italy and decided 20 years ago that this was where we wanted to have our 'second home in the country' as it were.

Our children have therefore 'grown up' at Pischiano almost as much as they have done at our home in London and are, like us and like our friends, very attached to it and to the area.

We have in short created a family home which reflects the distinctive feel of a place which is much loved and which we know our guests find particularly simpatico!

Suzanna Hopwood purchased this farmhouse in 1980

Why Suzanna Hopwood chose Arezzo Area

We loved the location, the beautiful surroundings; quiet and peaceful but not isolated and within easy reach of the village and the nearest town.

The countryside is beautiful, the local towns particularly attractive and the area has something different to offer at every season and can therefore be enjoyed all year round.

What makes this farmhouse unique

The joy of being in a wonderful old house in an absolutely wonderful location!

Serenity with thrills

  • 5 of 5

Pischiano impresses as a very special place. Sited at the very end of the mountain road above Sansepolcro, with the great meadow behind it leading up to the bowl of wooded Appennine mountains and the beauty of the natural scene, you have a sense of being at the edge of civilisation. The peace and quiet, punctuated only by the bird songs, captures the soul and it's quite possible to spend your holiday just sitting and absorbing the serenity of the place. The buildings are part of the appeal of the place: the exterior stonework and traditional shutters are physically as well as aesthetically appealing and structurally they seem to interact with one another. Each has its own special attraction so Anna's House for example has wonderful views from the upper floors, quite different in aspect to the other two units. The interiors are furnished traditionally with good taste and appreciation of beauty, for example the walk-in shower is an elegantly designed space. Eating outside is encouraged by the provision of barbecues and seating for each unit. One gains the impression that the owners really love this place and have worked hard to develop Pischiano to win the hearts of all who stay there.

One's visit need not be solely restful however. The swimming pool is one thrill, Piero's Resurrection ( 'the most beautiful painting in the world' ) in Sansepolcro is another. Having a meal at the famous Vasco's restaurant down the road at the village is an experience that lives long in the memory. These are all topped however by the visceral thrill of sitting outside the house at night listening to the howling of the wolves high in the mountains, and then next day finding wolf tracks in the stream below next morning.

The house is managed extremely well: highly efficient paperwork before going; e mail contact to ensure the holiday is going well; a fine selection of guides/house books/ information available during the holiday in each unit. In addition there is a local English couple who maintain and service the houses and who are promptly available to respond to any problem one might have.

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: Pischiano is at the very end of a white road and set in its own grounds so is quiet and also safe for children. In summer when temperatures in Tuscany can be quite high Pischiano is very comfortable and a refreshing retreat after a day's sight seeing. Outside: The swimming pool is solely for the use of guests and is approximately 6 metres by 5 metres. It is suitable for children because it has two "shallow" ends where the water is about 1 metre deep. There is a full range of pool and garden furniture and each house has a pergola together with barbeque equipment and external lighting. Guests can also use three hectares of pasture and woodland.
