About the property

A setting for a truly special holiday

Villa Phoenix is set in a peaceful hamlet and enjoys extensive views across the surrounding protected hills and countryside of Penina. The mature, secluded and fenced gardens extend to 1½ acres and benefit from extensive landscaping. The gardens are complimented by a purpose built barbecue area. There are 2 lawns; one perfect for football, badminton or boules whilst the other for peace and quiet.

The spectacular heated pool is a wonderful 16m by 8m, with a bubble jet spa having a waterfall overflow into the pool (lockable gates separate rear garden and pool from front garden).

Large lounge, dining room and terraces with satellite TV, WiFi and air-conditioning to complete your luxury holiday.

The villa has been furnished with much attention to detail with themed bedrooms all including recently renovated en-suite bathrooms. Similar attention will be given to your holiday. Thus, should you so wish, the villa manager can provide evening meals, baby sitting, shopping and other assistance. Complete each day by falling asleep in one of the English sized beds having chosen your themed bedroom.

About Sally Sturt

A retired English professional couple.

Sally Sturt purchased this villa in 2003

Why Sally Sturt chose Portimao region

Villa Phoenix is set in a very quiet hamlet which is highly conducive to providing a really relaxing holiday whilst at the same time optimally located for easy access to beautiful beaches, bars, restaurants, sailing, surfing, shopping and much more.

What makes this villa unique

We bought Villa Phoenix with it's huge bedrooms and feeling of space giving it an air of luxury rarely found. The pool, terraces and gardens are quite special facilitating cosy snugs and hideaways yet allowing for riotous water fights and noisy lunches.

We had a fantastic time in Villa Phoenix; it is homely, practical and met all of our holiday needs. A perfect place and haven to stay. We do not want to go home. Thanks to Clive and Melissa for making us so welcome. - Collins, Chapmans and Hopkins families

Our 3rd visit to Villa Phoenix and had a fantastic holiday as always. Everything you need is here and really feel relaxed. Thanks again to Clive and Melissa for all your help - the wonderful welcome meal and help with our family birthday celebration whilst we were here.

Such a fabulous place

We arrived late afternoon to a warm welcome, a fantastic welcome pack, a stunning villa and fantastic weather. We cannot fault this place at all. I loved every minute of it. Thanks to Melissa and Clive for looking after us.

Beautiful villa, well kept and very comfortable

  • 5 of 5

The property is very well maintained, my favourite part was the grounds, pool and BBQ area. It is the perfect setting to relax and spend time with friends and family. At night the front of the villa is lovely to sit at as there is lovely lights around the terrace which creates a lovely ambience. The rooms were very clean and spacious with plenty of storage space. The owners were lovely and could not be more helpful and checking we were having a good time and if there were any problems (which there was not). I would highly recommend this villa and I am very happy I picked this villa as it ticked all the boxes.

Beautiful villa, pool and gardens.

  • 5 of 5

On arrival we could not believe the welcome pack provided at Villa Pheonix; far more than we have ever had at any other villa, so do not go shopping before going to the villa, you will find all the small things are provided for you. For us, staying 9 days in August in above average temperatures, the air conditioning was an absolute necessity and at no extra cost.......I don't know what we would have done without it. The rooms are all spacious, the beds very comfortable and the villa and grounds are in excellent condition throughout. The gardens are beautiful and the pool and jacuzzi area kept the youngsters cool and happy during the very hot days. My husband was able to watch the one day cricket matches on TV, so he was happy! We were 3 generations staying at Villa Pheonix and we all enjoyed ourselves. Thanks to Melissa and Clive for their help, I hope we return soon.

Stunning home from home

  • 5 of 5

Upon arrival at Villa Phoenix we were warmly welcomed by the villa managers Clive and Melissa. My girls aged 8 & 10 immediately set off exploring the villa leaving Clive, Melissa and I listening to excited shouts of WOW coming from the girls! The first impression is the sheer size of the villa along with all the space it provides.

The villa was spotlessly clean and everything that you would need to relax after travelling all day had been thought of and been provided. The bedrooms are spacious and each have very nice en suite bathrooms.

The kitchen is again light and spacious and well equipped. Unusually; a washer and drier along with consumables are there for your use. Once outside though the holiday begins: the pool area and gardens are simply fabulous. There are a number of garden and pool toys to keep the kids entertained. The large rear garden is big enough even to play frisbee, rounders, badmington, boules...(all provided)! We loved it and can't wait to return. My 10 year old daughter summed it up perfectly when writing in the guest book: "after being at the villa for a few days it already felt like home".

A wonderful rustic Portuguese experience.

  • 4 of 5

Villa Phoenix is the perfect, peaceful & tranquil escape from the reality of life. The villa is situated in the exclusive quiet hamlet of Monte Judeu slightly north of Alvor-the renowned unspoiled fishing village where David Cameron visited the week before us; not that I'm a fan! Without a doubt villa Phoenix is in a class of its own & well worth a visit.

The property is very well appointed & maintained & the gardens should be christened 'Eden'! Of all the villas I/we have rented over the years I have never seen such a variety of flora & fauna as experienced here. There is also a large grassed area for those of you &/or your children who may wish to play ball games - although I'm not sure David Bellamy would approve!

The pool area which incorporates a Jacuzzi & its own water feature is the perfect place to spend both hot days & warm evenings relaxing with your favorite 'tipple' & perhaps a bbq 'to-boot'! The villa itself is very well equipped & we wanted for nothing - also, the beds are very comfy so you are guaranteed a good nights' rest during your break. The kitchen is an original feature in my opinion (1970's) but for us being in our 50's it enhanced the experience as I love 'retro' - especially Ziggy Stardust!

All-in-all, I have tried them all - expensive, inexpensive, rustic contemporary, old & new so you must try villa Phoenix, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Regards. Jeff. X

P.S. Melissa & Clive (the villa managers) are the perfect hosts & again you will want for nothing. They are on call 24/7, although they may not thank me for stating that in this review!

Location

Nearest Airport
60 Kilometres
Faro
Nearest Beach
7 Kilometres
Alvor
Car: recommended

The closest beach is at Alvor loved by both locals and visitors due to it's wonderful calm waters and soft golden sand. Very extensive and so not crowded, it truly deserves a blue flag. This fabulous beach is only 10 minutes drive away but there is also Meia Praia, Praia de Rocha and Praia do Ancao only 10km. Surfers amongst your guests may prefer the rugged west coast beaches such as Praia do Armado only 40 minutes drive away.

Villa Phoenix is only 45 mins drive from Faro airport and Lisbon and Seville airports are 2 - 2½ hours by car.

Taxi's are plenitful and cheap. Some guests have not hired a car but instead used taxi's for transport to and from the airport, supermarkets and shops etc. Most guests use the taxi's when visiting restaurants and clubs in Alvor, Portimao or Lagos.

Good range of restaurants within 2km - 4km. Beaches, restaurants and major shopping facilities within 8km. There is the recent 134 retail shopping outlet opened in Portimao which is 8km and the street markets of Lagos 15km

Alvor has the best of both worlds, whether you chose the busy streets with booming night life, the beautiful beaches, it's history or numerous high-quality but reasonably priced restaurants.
