Unusual Cave House With Private Pool And View

Updated: 27-Nov-2016
Cave House in Cortes de Baza, Granada, Andalucia - Edge of quiet Village

Unusual cave house in private setting, at the edge of the quiet picturesque rural village of Cortes de Baza, with its wide, orange tree-lined streets situated north east of Granada. It is not unusual to see tractors parked outside peoples houses while the farmers have their lunch. The local farmers are olive and almond growers and goat herders. The cave is deliciously cool in summer, cosy in winter. Well appointed with modern appliances and the luxury of an exclusive private swimming pool (Apr to Oct only) and terrace. Impressive view of Jabalcon mountain and rolling hills. Good location for day trips, walking or lazing by the pool. Take advantage of the cheap midweek Ryanair flights. Please note: Penultimate weekend of August is fiesta season in the village.

What a fantastic time we had in the cave house, it really is a lovely hideaway. The weather was unbelievable - up in the 40s which I don't think I've ever seen on a thermometer. We loved the area, delightful village & some wonderful scenery around. The cave house was very comfortable and well equipped too. We've both been raving about the house & area - most people we know seem to want to go on these all inclusive hols & then wonder why they've not enjoyed themselves! - Julie 2013

'Our stay in the cave was a lovely experience and the pool was lovely, it was nice to be able to get to sleep on a night because the cave was so cool' - Nina

'Thanks for a great holiday, best holiday ever. We will put the word around, cant wait for next time' - Mario &

'Natalia brilliant, thanks again' - Maxine, Chris, Kieran & William.

'We had a fantastic time in your cave in Cortes de Baza. The swimming pool was lovely and the cave really comfortable and cool' - John & Fiona

Fantastic Cave Dwelling

  • 5 of 5

The cave lived up to and exceeded our expectations. With such a hot climate the cave was a great place to seek a cooler clime, 18-20C. Makes sleeping at night so much easier. The mountain scenery is stunning. With a hire car able to deal with the inclines it was really enjoyable exploring the area. Tapas was really filling and you need to ensure you haven't just had a big meal! Trying out our basic Spanish was essential, well received, and above all really good fun.

The cave is cosy, well maintained, and with Mario available locally you are never far from help if required. Cave houses abound in the area and are so novel. How do they excavate them! Despite being in a cave it is far from caveman living, with all modern comforts present. So, be brave and give it a go.

Owners are great at providing comprehensive information in advance. So you arrive knowledgeable and in control.

Thoroughly recommend the village cafe/bars. Each has their own personality.

On hand is a local ginger Tom cat. If you love cats feed him and he will stay with you during your stay.

Owner's Response: Think you just about summed up our own feelings about Cortes. Caves can split opinions a bit. However we hope that people who are adventurous enough to stay will appreciate the quirkiness and this description sums it up well.

We loved the pool and the village was so nice, lovely friendly bars and great food. It was a bit hot and dusty on the patio but the huge pool was great for cooling down and a perfect place to relax. the cavehouse was nice and cool and a little bit quirky.

wonderful secluded home

  • 4 of 5

We loved this secluded private home in a traditional Spanish village. the pool keeps the kids busy while we could enjoy a lovely relaxing time in the cool cave. in the evening it's great to venture for something to eat in the small village which has a nice friendly feel. Plenty to do nearby if you want it - thermal spa, scenic walks etc. An amazing and unique holiday

Cueva Rambla

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay in this cave house.

The south-facing, outside area was beautiful, far better than the photographs could show. The pool was excellent and we were very lucky with the weather.

In the heat of the early afternoon it was a relief to step into the cave house. It was cool in the day and cosy at night.

The property was clean and well maintained. The kitchen was exceptionally well stocked, there was nothing we could think of that was not provided. Also, there was a good selection of books to keep us going.

Cortes de Baza is away from the main tourist bustle but is a nice village with good places to find tapas. The larger, nearby town of Baza, with its shops, museum and restaurants was very convenient for us.

The owners were most helpful, as was their agent.

We had a delightful holiday and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Cueva Rambla to family and friends.

A great stay in Cuevas Rambla - quiet, great weather, friendly village, with plenty of opportunity for eating out (Tapas).

Helen and Barry (owners) were so friendly and so very very helpful.

From the Owner

Although very rural and quiet we are on the edge of a village with all facilities. The surrounding area has plenty off beautiful countryside and bigger towns, for shopping. Most nearby villages have markets once a week. This is a very rural community and you will definitely get to live as the Spanish live. In fact we recommend it for maximum appreciation of the area. We fell in love with caves. They are all very individual. Although it does seem to be a love/hate thing as, far as peoples views are concerned over cave living, it will always be an experience

From the Owner

Your own private pool is a definite plus. Although not all year round we can say it is good for June to Sept and May and Oct are for hardier pool users. The cave is cool in Summer and cosy in winter, a constant 19 deg. A wood burner makes it even cosier off season. Relax and take in the view.
