About Denise Holdsworth

We lived in Sussex before coming to France 14 years ago. Purely by accident on a house hunting exercise, we found this 200 year old stone farmhouse which had been empty for several years and just knew it was what we had been looking for. Little by little, we have renovated inside, keeping as much of the original character as we can - including sloping floors and wiggly walls! The garden was just a field when we came and is now full of trees and flower beds. In the attached barn, we are still in the process of creating a gite but, for the moment, we can use the bedroom and shower room as a second room for bed and breakfast guests as access to the main house is inside. We have welcomed guests from all over the world; our main aim is to create a homely and relaxed atmosphere.

Denise Holdsworth purchased this farmhouse in 2002

Why Denise Holdsworth chose Châteauneuf-la-Forêt

We fell in love with this area because of its beautiful hills and valleys. If you've never been to the Limousin, and many people have never heard of it, you have missed a totally unspoiled part of France which has been kept a secret for many years; tourists just went through it on their way further south, never stopping. Now, it has been discovered as a place to come and relax, walk in the woods, bathe in the lakes when you want to get away from it all. Or you can visit any number of old towns and cities within an hour or so's drive. We have easy access from the A20 which runs north to south, also from Limoges airport (40 mins. drive), there are golf course nearby, fishing, mountain biking trails - all manor of things to entertain you, plus a wide range of good food.

What makes this farmhouse unique

When you stay with us, you experience the traditional French Chambre d'hote which means you live with us as part of the family, you eat with us at our kitchen table. You will not be sent to a room apart all on your own. We enjoy hearing about your lives, why you are here, whether you are on holiday or house hunting and we share our experiences of how we came to be here and what we have done since being here. This is rural France, a farming community where you will hear sheep, cattle, chickens and cockerels going about their business.

Lovely old farmhouse

  • 5 of 5

A warm welcome awaits when you arrive at this beautiful old farmhouse, not just from the owners, but from their cats and the old dog.

The large bedroom and bathroom facilities were lovely and clean and towels were supplied along with tea and coffee making facilities.. The owners are happy to suggest places to visit over an ample continental breakfast making this a real gem of a place to stay.

Accueillant, convivial, tranquille, charmant

  • 5 of 5
