About barbara james

We are Lee and Barbara James, we brought our property as a result of appearing in the Channel 4 TV programme 'A Place in the Sun Home and Away'. We are Foster Carers and have been for many years. We were looking for a nice/safe place to be able to holiday with our children, we decided on our apartment because it is so spacious and gives us all plenty of room. It is a very well maintained complex, with very friendly staff.

All the foster children we have taken to Estrela Da Luz have had a wonderful time.

We were looking for a family freindly resort within walking distance to the beach and restaurants, but we also were looking for somewhere not over developed with large hotels, which remains portugese, Praia Da Luz fitted the bill perfectly for all of us.

Notes on accommodation: We purchased this fantastic apartment whilst appearing on channel 4's A Place in the Sun, the apartment and complex is also featured in a 5 page article in the Nov 05 issue of the ‘A Place in the Sun’ Magazine. The resort has a 24hr reception to help with any queries you may have. The apartment is fully air-conditioned and has under floor heating for your comfort. All windows in the apartment have electronically controlled blinds. We have a no smoking policy inside the apartment. A family friendly resort, Enjoy the heated family pool, adults only pool or the indoor pool with sauna, jacuzzi and gymnasium. enjoy a drink and something to eat at the Hugo Beaty bar and café. Lazily relax with refreshments and snacks served by the pool from Gazebo pool bar. With plenty to do and see, Estrela da Luz is a great choice for short or long stays. Outside: The apartment has 2 balconies one very large south facing at the front of the apartment off of the lounge and master bedroom. This is furnished with patio furniture and sun loungers, great for alfresco dining or private sun bathing. A smaller terrace also exists off of the kitchen which also has patio furniture for that quiet breakfast. The resort consists of 2 outdoor communal pools, plus a children's paddling pool, a lovely large heated indoor pool, with a sauna and jacuzzi. there is an outside poolside bars, to sit and enjoy a bite to eat or they offer a takeaway service. Enjoy a meal/snack in the Hugo beaty bar/cafe with a good selection of wines and beers. There is a small gym, Tennis courts are also available. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Price includes apartment preparation and departure clean. Apartment towels and linen. Pool towels can be hired. Please bring beach towels. Additional cleaning etc can be arranged for guests requirements, for an extra fee. Other: Baby's cots and/or high chairs can be arranged, payment for these are through the reception.

Beautiful apartment, will be back

Just back from a 4 night stay in this apartment and complex. The apartment we stayed in had 2 bedrooms, 2 bath and all were beautifully appointed, simple but tasteful. The accommodation was immaculate and the kitchen was very well stocked with dishes, cutlery and utensils for those that wanted to cook while there. The complex was fantastic and the addition of the indoor pool and gym was what really sealed the deal for us.

The staff at reception were super friendly and helpful. The only thing that happened while we were there was that our door key stopped working a number of times and had to be replaced - we don't know whether it was the key or the door reader but a number of people in our group had a similar problem. However it was only a small niggle and easily rectified.

The apartment is situated directly over the bar and we were not with the quietest of groups but the noise was barely noticeable. The apartment is fully air conditioned which was very welcome. There was also a nice touch on arrival where milk and water were waiting in the fridge. The shops, bars and restaurants are very close so this complex is ideally situated. It is at the top of a hill though and you walk down into the town itself so if you are pushing a buggy or carrying children back up the hill you will have a very nice workout!

We booked directly through the owners and they were very pleasant to deal with which was great and we thought the price was very reasonable for the time of year that we were there.

I would highly recommend this apartment and complex and we will certainly be back for another stay!

One of the best beaches in the Algarve. It's sheltered by magnificent coloured sandstone cliffs with spectacular cliff walks and edged by several rock pools. With many water sports activities.


Direct flights are available from most UK regional and major airports to Faro International. flying time is from 2 hours 30 mins to 3 hours. Faro is a pleasant 55 mins drive on the new A22 motorway. A train service operates from Faro to Lagos. Transfers can be arranged if needed. With plenty of local buses and taxi available in Luz centre. A resort bus available for a small fee, guests can travel around the local areas and to the sister resort. Meaning a Car is not necessary for your holiday.


Estrela Da Luz is short 5-10 min walk from of the delightful village of Praia Da Luz, with its supermarkets, shops, bars and restaurants. Luz is 6km west of the town of Lagos, where you can find a modern marina offering sea fishing & dolphin watching. many beaches, a wide range of shops, restaurants and bars. It is within easy reach of the mountain spa of Monchique and Cape St. Vincent, the most south-western point of mainland Europe. Seveille and Lisbon can both be reached in under 3 hours.

Praia da Luz was once an old fishing village, which has developed into a small friendly holiday resort, offering all the facilities expected of a holiday resort. The village has, supermarkets, a cinema, a bank, post office, English speaking Medical practices, interesting shops selling gifts and Portuguese pottery. There is a wide variety of restaurants and bars to suit all tastes.

A short drive will take you to the Algarve Racetrack, built for Formula 1 racing. Lagos marina offers exciting boating, fishing and water sports. Lagos Zoo has lots for the kids.
