2 Bedroom Villa in Praia da Luz, Western Algarve, Superbly Located, Close To All Amenities But Offering Complete Privacy Within Enclosed Garden

This owner has been advertising with owners direct since 2004, and completing bookings by BACS (direct bank to bank transfer), which is one of the recommended forms of direct payment. The optional online booking system incurs an agency fee of between 6 - 8% of the owners listed price, plus VAT, charged to the holiday maker by owners direct.

PROPERTY DETAILS: 'The Folly' at 'Quinta das Redes' offers a truly enviable location, just 70 metres from the beach, and with village facilities in very easy reach, This charming 2 bedroom villa provides a completely private hideaway within a pretty walled patio garden. The property has a private heated pool (heating included in rental price). One of four unique residential properties situated within 'Quinta das Redes', which was the site of the historic beachfront tuna cannery, 'The Folly' was converted from an old stone constructed outbuilding. With the original arched features preserved, the renovated villa offers traditional style together with all expected contemporary facilities and comfort. Open plan living arrangement comprises sitting area with two large sofas either side of a fireplace with log burner, dining area with refectory style dining table, and fully fitted kitchen with ceramic electric hob, electric oven, dishwasher, fridge freezer, microwave, and all small appliances. Glazed doors lead to the patio and barbecue area with pretty tiled top dining table under the dappled shade of a pergola. Bedroom 1 has a Queen size (150cm wide) bed, glazed doors to the garden, and ensuite bathroom having bath with overhead shower, bidet, basin, WC. Bedroom 2 has twin beds, and ensuite shower room has shower enclosure, basin, and WC. Both bathrooms are newly renovated for the season 2017. House facilities include Wifi, TV and iptv box with UK channels, freeview, and catch up facillity. There is air-conditioning in the main living area and fans in the bedrooms. The pretty patio garden is level, very private, and enclosed. There are sunbeds around the heated pool (7.5m x 4.5m), which has built-in steps, a cover and underwater lights for evening. The washing machine is housed in an outside laundry room, and there is an outside shower by the pool. Maximum capacity in The Folly is 4 + baby, and a cot and highchair can be provided free of charge if required. There is secure entry to the villa garden, and parking outside it for one car in the off street car port, although a car is not at all necessary for a holiday at this property. Use of a third annex twin bedroom and bathroom suite located across the patio from the main villa, may be made available on request at extra charge - see photos. The villa is all on a level with no steps in the garden or to the outside, or on the short walk down to the beach and restaurants. This makes it perfect for those with some mobility limitations, but unfortunately, the available interior space of the villa bedrooms and bathrooms means that the accommodation cannot be considered as wheelchair accessible.

About Catherine Caetano

My parents purchased Quinta das Redes in this then undiscovered part of the Algarve in 1966. For many years the farmhouse, which was the main surviving building on the site of the old tuna cannery, was a haven of peace for happy family summers. I chose to make my life here in the late 80's, and the property passed to me in 1996. Over time, and with careful thought, the farmhouse and outbuildings, have been remodelled and developed as several individual dwellings providing both a home base and a family business for myself and my three children. Today, at Quinta das Redes we can offer desirable villa accommodation in the same ideal location I enjoyed as a child, but with all modern facilities. We now have many returning guests who have taken Luz to their hearts in the same way as my own family did so many years ago.

A wonderful holiday villa

We had a fantastic holiday at The Folly, and would thoroughly recommend it. The villa was clean, comfortable and well equipped. We had everything we needed, and the villa was secure, peaceful and private, whilst still being in the centre of the resort. Catherine, the owner, lives a few doors down and was available at all times to help. She left provisions for us on our rather late arrival, she bought us a flagon of water when the water company temporarily cut the supply, she even printed tickets to Aqualand for us at short notice. She was always available on the phone or email, which was very reassuring. The location of the villa was great - steps away from the beach and cafes. We were also very well placed to explore the area, particularly the west coast, Lagos, Burgau and Salema. The waterslide parks were an easy drive away, and we could book boat trips and other activities down on the beach. We had an amazing meal at Chicca's - the best meal we've ever had on holiday. Thank you Catherine, I hope we will come back one day - we had a really great holiday.

The Folly, Lovely quiet retreat close to amenities

The Folly is a beautifully private safe, secure walled villa within close walking distance of all the amenities that Luz has to offer. We found the place easily although we had taken the time to view the exact location on google earth before setting off which was probably a good thing as it is slightly tucked away down a pedestrian area. On arrival we had a slight issue with the key for the gate but this was sorted within a few minutes by Catherine and the lock changed later that day.

Internally the villa was spotlessly clean, well maintained and very comfortable and although we were only a party of 2 it was easily big enough for 4 or even 6 should the extra bedroom at the other end of the pool have been brought into play. There was wi-fi and internet TV and a very extensive selection of books to read. The kitchen was very well equipped with sufficient crockery and cutlery, a pretty good selection of pots and pans and even a knife sharpener.

Externally the privacy is amazing with nobody overlooking any part of the property. There is a smallish pool, big enough for floating about but a bit small for any swimming, very nicely laid out (shallow enough for youngsters at one end and could still stand up even at the deeper end). The covered shaded area has just the right balance of cover, shaded but with a little sun getting through and the seats were comfortable. Sitting out by the pool we found the loungers to be a little uncomfortable as they were non-adjustable but certainly not enough to stop us using them.

The Folly is right in the heart of Luz and a short stroll takes you to the beach or a selection of restaurants. Surprisingly for something so close to the centre, it was very quiet and peaceful day and night with little or no disturbance from the street.

All in all a lovely relaxing villa that we would definately recommend

Superb villa, superb location

This amazing villa was even better than we expected. Perfect location, just a few meters from the beach and restaurants, yet so quiet and peaceful. Extremely well equipped and very clean and well maintained. The heated pool was marvelous and seating and sunbathing areas outside were perfect. Catherine, the owner, was very friendly and helpful. We thoroughly recommend a visit to her restaurant, Fabrica. All in all a superb experience!

Perfect location

We have now visited The Folly on two occasions and we are going again this year and very much looking forward to it. The villa is ideally situated, close to the beach, restaurants (including Catherine's own restaurant which is excellent) and bars. The villa is extremely well equipped and comfortable. It offers complete privacy whilst being in the heart of the village.

It is also secure and offers a private parking space which is helpful.

We have stayed there with my mother and found that the villa being all on one level made it very suitable for anyone with mobility issues.

The courtyard offers lots of sun and shelter if there is a wind and the terrace is beautifully shaded. The pool is ideal as it is not too large and therefore retains the warmth but still big enough for swimming or floating on your lilo!

All in all, highly recommended.

A real jewel in the heart of Praia da Luz

This is a lovely secluded villa with everything that you need for your comfort and enjoyable holiday. It is very well equipped in a prefect location. It has the added bonus of a heated swimming pool. I fully recommend the Folly as an outstanding home to spend your holiday in. The owner is on hand and has years of experience and excellent local knowledge. What more could you want! We have already booked for next year. The Folly gives you easy access to all the local shops and restaurants and it is on the beach.

Praia da Luz is arguably one of the prettiest beaches in the Western Algarve, sporting the european blue flag. East are small beaches within picturesque rocky coves and the long sandy crescent beach of Meia Praia at Lagos, all within 10 minutes drive. Within 15 minutes to the West are the family resort beaches of Burgau and Salema, and further again are a multitude of beaches including those frequented by surfers, Spectacular and less busy but perhaps not so safe for small children.


Faro is the nearest airport at only 1 hours drive away. We can advise on car hire or taxi transfer for you.

The property is centrally placed and within very short walking distance to all village amenities which include post office, bank, cash dispensing machines, supermarkets, pharmacy, English-speaking doctors surgery and dentist. Zoomarine dolphin park and Slide and Splash water park provide coach transport from Luz. Anglican services are held on Sunday in the local church. Tennis is available, including lessons and friendly tournaments. There are two water-sport centres on the beach providing everything from banana boat rides, to sailing lessons, to fishing excursions. From Lagos you can try parasailing, deep-sea fishing, dolphin safari, or visit the grottos by fishing boat. There are several surf centres offering day trips to wherever the waves are best on the day, wetsuits, equipment and instruction as required. Luz can offer a wide choice of cafes and restaurants to suit all pockets and tastes. For a change of scene we recommend an evening out in the historic town of Lagos. The 8 minute taxi ride is inexpensive - let us book for you and just sit back and enjoy the local wines.

  • Notes on accommodation: The property is cleaned on Saturday and Wednesday. Household linens are provided. Bedlinen is changed on Saturday. Household towels are changed on Saturday and Wednesday. Please bring your own towels for beach and poolside. The washing machine is provided solely for guest use (not used by maid service). Firewood and use of wafer heaters are included in the rental price in winter. Pool heating is included in all seasons except winter. Outside: There is a secure gate at the entrance to the property, and outside there is off street parking for one car in a gated car port. (however a car is not at all necessary for a holiday at this villa) Outside, and along the beachfront, the road is for pedestrians and resident parking and deliveries only. Pool man and Gardener attend weekly. The garden is not overlooked and offers a high degree of privacy for sunbathing or shaded sitting. Garden lights and pool lights, and built in barbecue with dining area provide for evening outdoor entertainment. The pool, 7.5 m x 4.5m, is heated at no surcharge, and has a cover. There is an outside shower by the pool. There is a rollaway mesh fence which can be supplied on request to families with small children, to separate the main house from the pool terrace
