Peaceful Cottage with safe rambling country walks - Tourism Registered AL 1612

The Love Nest is located on the foothills of the Monte Sao Miguel range, an elevated setting with lovely mountain and stunning coastal sea views overlooking the distant offshore islands and towns from Fuseta to Olhao and Faro.

A rural country area in natural wild shrub land setting, very safe ideal for rambling country walks along the many lanes or mountain tracks to suit all levels of fitness or just unwind and take in the peace and quiet.

Shopping and village markets, festivals and affordable restaurants from 1.5 Km away.

The offshore islands beckon with endless, uncrowded and sun-drenched beaches, easily accessed by either water taxis or small ferries docking below in Olhao or Fuseta, under 10 minutes away.

The easy access to the A22 motorway allows all Algarve’s appealing entertainments, sport activities and even Spain to be very accessible, all within a 30minute drive.

PROPERTY LAYOUT

The cottage is detached back to back across a shared rear courtyard from our main home Casa Lami.

Has own separated garden, boule court plus barbeque area and gazebo for alfresco dining and safe undercover shared carport.

The pool has no overlooking villas and is located at the front of our main bungalow house, and guests have own separate easy access at all times.

PLEASE NOTE that although the pool is located in front of the main house it is NOT A SHARED POOL at all as the owners are a long retired couple with a lifetime under an African sun and never ever use the pool.

INSIDE

The LOVE NEST was converted from our detached extra-large double garage into a cosy very comfortable open plan studio cottage for two.

An ample lounge area with comfortable IKEA seating plus rocking chair, an open plan archway links the bedroom with Emperor size double bed and posturepedic mattresses, ironed all cotton bedlinen with all seasons duvets, an ample dressing area leads to an ensuite bathroom with shower, basin, toilet and crisp sundried cotton towels.

Another archway links the lounge to a breakfast bar and a self-catering on granite tops kitchenette with fridge freezer, microwave grill, toaster, washing sink, kettle, juicer, coffee machines, hob and heavy duty extractor fan. All fully equipped for self-catering plus all usual expendables down to table serviettes are all inclusive.

The cottage is on ceramic floor tiles with scatter rugs, climate control air conditioning, extra cooling fans and electric heaters.

There is free Wi Fi Internet, Satellite TV with free view BBC/SKY, CNN etc., DVD, CD, Hi Fi & Bose, a classic guitar is available on request. Small wine bar with compliments of the house.

A free for local calls Mobile phone to remain in contact with owner management, also ideal take along mobile for handy standby advice to make sure guests have a care free holiday

CLEANING

A weekly combined cottage and pool cleaning service, a full change of linen, fresh cotton bath towels and also pool/beach towels are provided. The cottage is maintained with most usual household expendables all-inclusive at no extra cost.

A welcome pack of wine, beer and some fridge essentials is provided to set your holiday off to a good start

CHANGE OVER DAY

The preferred changeover is Saturday but we are flexible wherever dates fit in reasonably with other bookings. To allow for cleaning please vacate by 10am on the day of departure. Occupation on arrival is 2pm, however whenever possible we gladly adjust for earlier or later flights times.

OUTSIDE

The property is on 3800sq meters of elevated private rural land overlooking some scattered villas below, it is securely fenced in with an automated entrance gate, driveway and mature gardens, grass lawns and cooling tall palm trees.

As the property is on variable sloping land care has been taken to avoid riser steps making it ideal for elderly or infirm to negotiate the cottage, parking, garden, pool and main house all on one level with aid of a few gentle ramps.

The Cottage has an own separate front and rear entrance, own boule court, gazebo, table and chairs and barbecue for alfresco dining.

The villa pool is 'L' shaped 24mts square area, ranges from 1.2 to 1.9m deep and has deep "champagne" seating steps, with sun loungers plus umbrellas, no overlooking houses.

For hot evenings the floodlit court awaits you for fun filled games of boule, and for colder nights the boule den easily converts to an “African Safari Campfire” style with fire wood logs available on request.

MANAGEMENT

The cottage is owner managed, they have over 13 years’ experience in renting out their holiday properties. Their guest´s PRIVACY, SAFETY, SECURITY and wellbeing is most important to them and knowing holidays are the most precious times of all, special care is taken to ensure a care free holiday.

SAFETY

Being an approved and licensed holiday property the cottage is inspected and conforms to the comfort and safety standards such as:

Power failure warnings plus emergency lighting facility / Gas and Smoke detector alarms in the kitchen area / Strategically placed 2 category Fire Extinguishers plus Fire blanket and luminous Exit signs / First Aid Kit cupboard visibly wall mounted, to which we add extra anti-histamine tablets and creams to instantly reduce discomfort from stings and bites.

SECURITY

Some 3 years ago we installed into all 4 our properties top of the range yet easy to use Security Direct Alarms Systems to prevent unpleasant break-in intrusions spoiling our guest’s holidays,

However, as our permanent home Casa Lami alarm system is linked with the nearby Love Nest cottage we only ever use it when we are away for lengthy annual family visits to S. Africa and Australia; as the many alarm warning signs fixed all around our property is an adequate deterrent.

This alarm system also offers EXTRA PEACE OF MIND for emergency instant reaction, as it is directly linked via GPS to Police Villa Vigilance Service / The Fire Brigade / Emergency Ambulance with Paramedic Service / Plus a mere touch of a button away from National Emergency Service 112 attention, all of whom readily speak English.

PRIVACY

Although the Love Nest is detached but situated in close proximity with the owners’ main house, our guest’s privacy remains paramount.

The LOVE NEST is managed as a holiday cottage by the owners, a retired couple from South Africa who have lived in the Algarve for many years. All 3 properties are approved and licensed for holiday letting. The owners love the Algarve and, knowing holidays are precious to us all, they are keen to furnish more information or advice so that you may make a happy choice and maybe return year after year.

About Karl and Daphne

As a young family we had a very happy 20 years of trading in the remote Zulu Kingdom of South Africa.

On being politically displaced in 1980 we retired early to the North Coast of Durban and 15 years of “part time farming” our beef ranch in remote northern Natal.

Having more leisure time we toured extensively and whilst in Europe we fell in love with the Algarve and promptly acquired a holiday villa, which inevitably in 1995 became our permanent home.

Having acquired more holiday villas to rent out we now enjoy meeting guests from around the world, many of whom are now our dearest friends.

Annually we visit our families in the southern summers of South Africa and Australia and returning home to enjoy and love the Algarve even more.

The Algarve is Portugal's holiday playground, blessed with all year around sunshine, unpolluted blue skies and crystal clear seas.

Summers are very hot and dry, parched meadows and endless beaches with the cool Atlantic are a refuge from the heat of the day. Evenings are refreshingly cooler, and are ideal for dining out, listening traditional "Fado", some serious clubbing or simply good eating in the regions vast choice of restaurants, famous for fresh foods.

Spring and Autumn are milder and are preferred by many, still hot and mostly all blue skies with possibly a stray shower from winter rains restoring the lush green countryside and spectacular wild flowers.

Being a winter rainfall zone, Algarve Winters are surprisingly mild, with some colder days interspersed with days of warm sunny skies, cool evenings ideal for a heart-warming log fire were central heating is merely a surplus luxury.

Unlike central to west Algarve's bustling and crowded tourist resorts, our Eastern Algarve, having protected World Heritage wetlands and offshore islands, is fortunately spared from mega tourist developments. It consequently remains more traditionally Portuguese; the most friendly and polite people you could ever wish to meet.

An idyllic easy going lifestyle, with village markets, festivals, uncrowded beaches and all year wall to wall blue skies.

The region offers a wide variety of activities and entertainments, and is well served with shopping malls, regional produce and crafts.

For a change from beach life there is dolphin-watching, scuba-diving, surfing or sailing. You can also visit famous Oceanariums and swim with dolphins, splash away at Water Worlds or enjoy a luxury boat cruise along the spectacularly beautiful coastline. There are also the options of riding a bicycle, horse riding or walking in unspoilt countryside.

With golf as choice activity there are Europe's top courses to hand, and in the Algarve nowhere is too far away to go.

MONCARAPACHO (8Km). The nearest town has a welcoming atmosphere, small market and local pottery as well as the usual shopping amenities. Further on is FUSETA town on the waterfront, from where a short hop across by little ferry takes you to the popular Island beach. Onwards on your way towards the well liked TAVIRA a town which in itself is a fast growing tourist area and well worth a visit, is SANTA LUZIA with rows of restaurants along a lovely palm lined waterfront, from where you may hire water taxis to enjoy your own private beach paradise for the day. Nearby is a miniature rail which crosses the marshes to endlessly long island beach of Isla Barril.

OLHAO (9Km) Is a flourishing old fishing town, and has a small harbour and jetty with small ferries and water taxis that shuttle across to the nearby island beaches. These include Armona and Culatra, as well as the distant light house island of Farol. On the waterfront is a famous undercover fresh fish and vegetable market, inside two huge Moorish style halls. A bustling daily market is a must see for an insight into day-to-day Algarve life. An endless choice of restaurants makes this town a seafood paradise.

AZINHEIRO (Nearby 3Km) Is a small hamlet saddling the mountain ridge. Located in a narrow crossways linking Monte Miguel, Sao Bras, Estoi and Olhao, is the popular local snack bar "O Rissol" owned by very friendly Paulo and Sandra who speak perfect English.

ESTOI (4Km) Is a prominent old town in the foothills of the Calderao mountain range. The recently restored "Pink" Palacio de Estoi is a true sleeping beauty palace and, with the Milrue Roman Temple ruins further along, well worth a visit.

SAO BRAS (9Km). Is a bustling inland town nestling against the lovely outback cork hills. It has all the convenient shopping amenities and very affordable restaurants, along with the ever popular phenomena Luis dos Frangos, or just "Chicken Louis"

FARO (17Km) Is the capital town and has quaint old cobbled shopping walkways and the nearby fortressed old town is well worth a meander. The ancient cathedral bell tower provides a splendid view over the city, wetlands lagoons and inland hills.

From the small marina in the town centre boats offer group tours of the Ria Formosa Wetland Reserve with its famous birdlife, and also visit pristine Isla Deserta for idyllic beachcombing amid a myriad seashell.

The very modern Algarve Forum shopping mall on the outskirts of town offers good retail therapy with specialist chain stores, cinemas, and restaurants.

HOW TO GET THERE:

The nearest airport of Faro is only 20 minutes away and is served by many budget airlines such as EasyJet, Monarch, Ryanair, Jet2, Airberlin etc. At times some national airlines also offer direct flights in to Faro.

The alternative Portuguese airport of Lisbon is only 3hrs drive and Seville airport in Spain is only 2 hours away. Some guests take a leisurely drive to the Algarve which in itself is a lovely scenic trip with interesting stop overs along the way

Perfect peaceful paradise

We came back after last year's wonderful holiday at Karl and Daphne's place, and it more than lived up to all our expectations. It was wonderful to be back in such beautiful countryside, with stunning views to the coast. Karl and Daphne are a delightful couple - warm-hearted, generous, helpful and understanding. They gave us the peace and quiet we sought, but were there for us if we needed advice (or a chat over a glass of wine). The weather was glorious. Eating out is inexpensive and the food is good. Lots to do and to see in the neighbourhood. We enjoyed a sailing trip round Ponta de Piedade. We had a day in Spain. Thank you much, Daphne and Karl. Be good to yourselves. We love you. We WILL be back.

Haven of tranquility

This is our second visit to Karl and Daphne's beautiful Love Nest and our third trip is already booked! The Nest is the perfect retreat for a complete switch off relaxing break with beautiful views of the surrounding area. It is easily accessible to wherever you choose, be it the quaint local villages with cafes and restaurants or a bit further afield to bigger towns and more commercial areas of the Algarve.

Karl and Daphne are the perfect most welcoming hosts with as much or as little help support and advice that you need.

The Nest is very well equipped and very clean and comfortable with an excellent welcome pack on arrival just what you need after travelling. The pool area is perfect for enjoying the gorgeous sunny weather with ample shade provided if required and of course being able to cool off in the water which we were very grateful for during our stay! There was a fab addition for us this year which is the hot tub on the sun terrace. This is a completely private area where you can lay back and relax watching the sun go down and the stars appear.

Eating out is very reasonable and lots of different types of cuisine is available to suit everyone's taste. There is also a good choice of supermarkets from a small local one literally at the bottom of the lane selling the basics or larger ones including a Lidl about a 15/20 min drive.

There really is no negatives at all we feel truly blessed that we have found it and have made friends with two lovely people Karl and Daphne. Take care and we will see you next year!

Charming and Tranquil

This wa our third year at 'The Love Nest', and every year it is more magical. We have bee going to Estoi for 16 years and have never been in late Spring, so we were pleasantly surprised at how beautiful it is. The trees are all in full blossom and the flowers are in full bloom, making the evenings very aromatic.

The 'Love Nest' is set in a perfect place for getting around, we vistited the Palace in Estoi yet again, it is still being developed and is well worth a visit, to look around the Palace itself and the grounds are magical, you can then sit and have a long cool drink and take in the views out to the coast. There are some lovely restaurants selling good food, museums and the most beautiful beaches, all not too far away by car.

Karl and Daphnie make you feel very welcome treating you like part of their extended family. They are very knowledgeable about all the surrounding areas and quite willingly will give advice on anything.

This Karl has installed a jaccuzi outside which was a real treat. As you can see from the photos the outside areas are fabulous.

Don't want to say too much more otherwise we won't get a slot for 2019. We have already booked for 2018.

Gezellige woning, alles gelijkvloers en voorzien van alle gemakken (prima bed, lekkere douche kortom alles okay). Leuk welkompakket. veel privacy biedende, hoog gelegen tuin met picknick tafel, fijne stoelen, buiten douche, hangmat, barbecue en fantastisch uitzicht richting zee. Zeer gastvrije, Engels sprekende eigenaar die uiterst hulvaardig is. Mooie, stille locatie weg van de drukte

Wonderful, relaxing stay, April 2017

Thank-you to the owners for a hugely enjoyable and relaxing stay - Karl couldn't do enough to make our time with them excellent - we enjoyed good weather in April and made use of just about all the different seating areas and the boule court. Everything was clean, comfortable and we spent several days at Ninho do Amor without going anywhere, just enjoying resting and sitting watching the birds and wildlife - or walks on the nearby hillside. When we arrived one of us had a Migraine and Karl was round within minutes equipped with a medicines - as we got there fairly late Karl had also put Bacon and Eggs in the fridge for us for the morning! They also have a local mobile phone to take with you in Portugal to make reaching them to ask anything easy. Karl was able to provide lots of recommendations when we asked for them and we tried two (Antonio's Restaurant in Moncaropacho and O'Rissol snack bar up the Hill) - both were spot on! Karl was also extremely kind in sorting out at the post office after we'd gone a mistake with the Toll system for which we had no electronic tag and assumed we could pay at a machine or person - it was our first time in Portugal and we didn't know! All in all a wonderful week and very grateful to the owners for making it such a good stay (Daph was unfortunately unwell so we didn't get to meet her, but hope we will on a future stay if we manage to go again as Karl already feels like a friend!).

Glorious spring in the Algarve!

Our very first time in the Algarve, and luckily we chose March (Spring) for our visit. The roadsides were bursting with wildflowers. Accommodation for just two is very difficult to find, but fortunately we managed to "land" in the fabulous "Nid d'Amour at CasaLami. We were thoroughly spoiled by our wonderful hosts, Daphne and Karl.
