About the Owner

We bought the villa as a new build in San Roque Club in 2003 and enjoy many holidays there. We live in Keyworth, Nottingham and my husband has now retired. We are just completing a self build project which has kept us both very busy. We are keen golfers and walkers hence our enjoyment of the villas location.

We have one son who is now 26 and he also lives in Nottingham with his girlfriend. After he finished University, he helped us with the self build for a year, and now works as a commercial property manager.

Fabulous Villa in a lovely location

  • 5 of 5

We returned last week from our stay in this wonderful Villa in the San roque golf resort. We are a family of six with children ranging from 9 to 16 years of age.

We were really delighted with both our choice of accommodation and location. The Villa itself is very spacious and luxurious and it had all the mod cons to make our stay very enjoyable and relaxing. Our children particularly enjoyed the swimming pool which has deeper and shallower ends. There is a lovely garden to the side of the house with a bbq and a large 8 seater table under a covered terrace where most of our meals were had. The kitchen was excellent, it had a large fridge and all of the appliances, crockery etc that you would require.

Two of the upstairs bedrooms had terraces and there was a roof terrace where you could enjoy the sun all day and well into the evening. The Air conditioning was excellent and fully programmable. We stayed in some nights and watched some of the dvds that were left, there was also a TV service with plenty of our usual channels from back home ,sky sports etc. The owners have provided a high quality Villa which was very clean and well maintained.

The San roque golf club itself is a ten minute drive from a selection of beaches, our favourite was the one at Torreguadiaro which is large, sandy, and has a lifeguard, there is another smaller beach in Alcadaisa also close by.

Sotogrande Marina also 10 minutes away is a lively classy area, bustling at night with bars and very good restaurants, and a couple of boutiques.

There are other towns and villages a short drive from the Villa where you can also find a good variety of restaurants, bars and shops.

The San roque resort itself has two restaurants, we only dined in one of them called the buccintoro and it was very good and reasonably priced, there was also a small convenience store on site which was handy. We are not golfers, so I can't comment on the courses in the resort, but I think there are two of them.

We wanted a less hectic more relaxed part of the Costa del sol for our holiday this year and that's what we got.

We have rented several Villas on the Costa del Sol over the years, this was our favourite. David.

Owner's Response: Hi David, Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We are delighted that you and your family enjoyed your holiday in our villa and were pleased to hear that it was your favourite. It is always interesting to hear how our guests spend their time. Some spend most of their holiday on the golf course, but the majority are families who are seeking a quiet and safe place to spend their holidays. I hope you will consider booking with us again. Thanks again. Jan

Immaculate well positioned villa.

  • 5 of 5

We were after a couple of weeks of late autumn warmth, with some golf and walking thrown in. Malaga airport was a convenient destination and so somewhere between there and Gibraltar looked to be the best option. What was important for us was that we wanted somewhere quiet but not isolated. We found a villa on the San Roque club estate that seemed to offer most of that and went for it.

The villa was at the end of a small cul-de-sac overlooking one of the fairways. It had 4 double en suite bedrooms, a roof terrace, a small garden with a heated swimming pool and importantly for us, no passing traffic. The villa itself was immaculate with everything you need, large airy bedrooms with plenty of living space on the ground floor and 2 separate patios. There were a couple of restaurants and a small supermarket within the estate so if you just wanted to chill out and play some golf without going anywhere else it would be ideal. We went in October/November and the temperature was ideal. There is an east facing patio which you can sit comfortably on in the early morning sun which was something I particularly liked. Wifi and Sky Sports were available.

For the golf we had thought of using the San Roque course but it is really expensive. However if money wasn’t an issue the villa would be ideal for a week or two for a group of 8 golfers. We chose to use the course at La Canada which is really good. You can get a day ticket for just over 30 euros or a monthly membership for less than a couple of hundred euros and play as much as you like. Prices for tapas and drinks in the bar are good. You will need a car though.

The coast is probably walkable from the villa but only on roads, which did not appeal to me so effectively it is a short drive The coast in the area has lots of pleasant places to offer, which at the time of year we went were quite quiet. We went to Gibraltar for the day, which is about 20 minutes drive away, and if you’ve never been it is worth a visit, although I would advise parking up on the Spanish side of the border and walking across.

The booklets in the villa included one with a number of walks, some of which were a reasonable drive away. We tried a few of these and had some good days out. We also visited Ronda which again is worth a visit, look at using the train from San Roque rather than a car.

Luxurious stay in great location

  • 5 of 5

We had very much been looking forward to our stay in Costa del Sol and were absolutely thrilled with this beautifully appointed villa. We met up with friends from the UK and, although there were eight of us, we were very comfortable. It's really a spacious villa. We spent our days golfing at La Canada (five minutes away), soaking up the sun at the beach and exploring ancient villages such as Ronda (not to be missed!). When we felt like staying put we relaxed by the lovely swimming pool and sun terrace. The villa was absolutely pristine when we arrived and was very well appointed. Thanks for a fabulous holiday. We can't wait to come back!

Owner's Response: Hi Charlie, Thank you very much for your review. We are really pleased that you had a good holiday in our villa. When you come again I would recommend the trip to Ronda by train which goes from San Roque town. La Canada Golf Course is also our favourite and you can join for a month if you want unlimited golf. Thanks again for your comments.

Fabulous stay in Spain

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at this villa! This was beautifully appointed and maintained and a real home away from home! The area has a great deal of charm and is located close to a number of fabulous landmarks. We spent time on the beach in Alcaidesa and an amazing day visiting Ronda ( a not to be missed historical location). However we were also happy to stay sunbathing by the pool or on our private terrace off the master bedroom. Great fun going to the local markets and cooking at home but there were also some great restaurants close to the villa. My husband had a wonderful time golfing on the course directly connecting to the property. Overall superb value for the money!

We will be back!

Location

From the Owner

We chose San Roque because it was a beautiful area of Spain and not commercialised. We both play golf so it was ideal being close to so many wonderful golf courses. We have had a walking holiday here as well and have discovered some magnificent walking routes nearby. It is located on a secure private estate with an equestrian centre on site. It takes around one hour ten minutes from Malaga Airport and is around 20 minutes from Gibraltar

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Gibraltar, (but Malaga our usual 1 hr 10 min) at 100 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : Tangos, on Site 10 min walk Nearest Golf : San Roque club old and new courses on site Nearest Train : San Roque at 7 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : E15, Junction 127 at 0.5 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : 3 on site- 10 min walk Nearest Beach : Alcadesa at 3 Kilometres Car: recommended

Special interest holidays:

This is a beautiful area for a walking holiday. We are very close to the major natural Parks of Andalucia. We recommend the English Walking World web site to illustrate the walks available all with downloadable way points if required. These areas also lend themselves to enjoyable exploration by car as well.

Windsurfing and kite surfing are available with the best sites near Tarifa.

Coast/Beach:

Car journey times are; 10 minutes to a magnificent beach– Alcaidesa, with beach bar, catamaran sailing and windsurfing. Tarifa is about 35 minutes drive and is famous for windsurfing and kite-boarding. It is 15 minutes drive to La Duquesa Port, and 10 minutes to Sotogrande, both of which have great restaurants and marina views and 25 mins to Puerto Banus for designer shopping and viewing the magnificent yachts.

Travel:

Malaga airport is 1 hour 10 mins away by the new excellent toll road and is the recommended point of entry, Gibraltar Airport is 20 minutes away but border logistics add time to this route. Car hire is easily arranged from Malaga and a car is essential.

Distances:

Marbella, Estepona, Ronda, Jimena de la Frontera are all easy journeys of within 30 mins to an hour. For those more adventurous, Jerez and Seville are reachable for day excursions plus trips to Africa from Algerciras or Tarifa and Gibraltar is within 30 minutes.

A small town is within 10 minutes, Pueblo Nuevo de Guadiaro; this has an English butcher plus supermarkets restaurants. Wi Fi and internet fed television available at the villa.

Facilities

From the Owner

The villa is very convenient for shops and restaurants and is close to the beach. There is a coffee shop a few minutes walk away which is great for breakfast if you don't want to cook. The restaurant at the San Roque Club is very good and is only a few minutes walk away. There are also excellent Italian and Japanese Restaurants on site, and a superb Thai about 10 minutes away by car. The garden and pool area is very private and if you just want to sit on one of the many terraces and read, or watch the occasional golfer it is very quiet. If you like cooking there is much fascinating local produce, and the kitchen and implements plus permanent outside BBQ should aid your production. We also try to keep the herbs and spices well stocked, and leave numerous cook books for your use. The internet TV provides all sports and film channels as well as the full English expectation for BBC ITV etc. There is also a DVD player with a good film selection. For those who are technically skilled we have also added an apple TV receiver which enables those with apple products to watch there own film selections. We usually hire at very low cost the latest films via i-tunes.
