About Frances

As your hosts we will be pleased to welcome you to our stunning property. Having lived in the Perigord for the last twelve years, we are ideally placed to offer you the best accommodation with the best local knowledge.

Piers & Frances

Frances purchased this chateau / country house in 2001

Why Frances chose Perigord Blanc

It was an area we knew well and Perigueux is a great attraction with its medieval city, Roman ruins and Renaissance centre. The strawberries grown in the local area are lovely too!

There are plenty of castles and chateaux to explore, canoeing on the Dordogne and Vezere rivers, and of course the gastronomic delights served in many of the local restaurants.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

The property is in the countryside but only 8 kms from Vergt which has all amenities and good shopping and weekly market. Walking and cycling are immediately available from the house. The property is not overlooked and enjoys lovely views over the surrounding area. If you are keen on birds, we have more than 110 species of birds which can be easily seen from the property or within a few kilometers walk.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Frances and Piers,we feel that we must congratulate you both on the accommodation at L'Abyme. We have toured around France over the past 10 years and have rented some lovely properties, but for the size of your property, the cleanliness, the attention to detail in every room and the out side areas were second to none. We were a party of 11 and we all felt the same.

Each bedroom had it's own bathroom which was brilliant, the kitchen was a joy to cook in, which we did every night, and eating our evening meals in the courtyard was magic.

We hope that your other guests enjoy holidaying at L'Abyme as much as we did and give it the respect it deserves.

We hope to see you again in the not to distant future.

You yourselves are a lovely couple. Kind regards, Lynda and Alf Boulton from the West Midlands England.

Perfect family vacation home

  • 5 of 5

The pictures do not do this property justice. It is absolutely breath taking. We had 9 adults and 3 young children and rented out the whole property. We had loads of space, never felt like we were all on top of each other. Plenty of land for the children to run around and play games plus the swimming pool with its amazing view was a bonus. Cannot highly recommend this property enough. I wish we had booked for two weeks rather then just one. I would also recommend taking advantage of the cleaning package through the owners. The cleaning required is quite in depth and it is not until you get to the property that you realise how big a job it is. We paid extra for cleaning which meant we spent our whole last day by the pool. We were very said to be leaving this place. Absolutely beautiful.

Family of 7 adults and 7 children stay at L'Abyme

  • 5 of 5

L'Abyme had the perfect accommodation for our family requirements. We had some difficulty finding the property but we had chosen a rural location and we loved the quietness, the abundant wildlife, especially the birds, and the wonderful stars at night! The property was very clean and well equipped and we especially appreciated the comfortable beds and soft English pillows! The pool was in a lovely position and was very well maintained although the shallow end was a bit too deep for my three and a half year old grandson to stand in. The whole family had bought bikes thinking we could cycle easily from the house but the roads were too stony and rough for the safety of the children. However, they greatly enjoyed the cycling along along the river path at Perigueux. Sadly, our stay was marred on the first day by the sudden serious illness of a son-in-law who had to be helicoptered from Perigueux to hospital in Bordeaux, where he received excellent care and is making a recovery. The owners could not have been more kind, understanding and supportive and we cannot speak highly enough about them. Unfortunately, because of our traumatic circumstances we did not get out and about very much but, despite this, we all felt we had had a lovely time at the beautiful L'Abyme.

The perfect property for a family gathering

  • 5 of 5

I cannot rate L'Abyme highly enough. We had a family gathering (15 of us) with ages ranging from 4 to 71 years. It was the perfect place for us. The Manor House and the 2 gites were extremely well equipped and we wanted for nothing. Everyone had their own space and there was always a corner to hide in if you wanted to sit and read quietly. The pool was fabulous and we all had lots of fun playing water volleyball. We introduced our grandchildren from Singapore and Australia to Boules- such fun.

All in all a fabulous holiday in a wonderful property. We are already planning to return in 2018. This time for longer.

This property provided a family party of 18 excellently. Each family had their own facilities and privacy. The standard of accommodation was excellent and very comfortable. The facilities i.e.pool was safe and big enough for all to enjoy. We had a fantastic holiday and would thoroughly recommend it to any family party.

Cottage Nirvana in France

  • 5 of 5

After spending the summer travelling in France, we came to rest at L'Abyne. We stayed in a spotless, well-maintained apartment which had all mod cons so as to make our stay comfortable. As the weather was hot and we had been very busy prior to our stay, we were looking for somewhere to relax and unwind. We especially enjoyed our time relaxing by the pool, swimming and reading. We enjoy cycling and had brought our bikes with us and enjoyed a few excursions. Fran and Piers were extremely helpful and informative about places to visit. All of which we thoroughly enjoyed. The listing was accurate and the apartment had lots of maps and information leaflets. We also enjoyed feeding the animals on the farm next door. Especially the donkey. We would have no problem recommending this property to friends or family and we would have no hesitation in returning.

Fabulous tranquility

  • 5 of 5

This place is amazing!! Fabulous peaceful country location. Hill top views. Gorgeous old manor house, with amazing old timber beamed rooms. Dinky little self-contained studio. Modern barn conversions. We rented the whole place for a big group and it was just amazing. All organised round a lovely courtyard for BBQs and boules, with a private pool. Perfection.
