Apartment in Les Cabannes, Pyrenees, Ariege - Converted Stables in the Grounds of a Listed Chateau

This beautiful one bedroom apartment in the converted stables of a listed Chateau, is perfect for a holiday or short break at any time of year. The apartment is set within the private and secluded park of the chateau grounds with spectacular mountain scenery. Located in the heart of the Pyrenees, close to the historic town of Foix. This is a truly year round location, with trekking, cycling, kayaking, canyoning, rafting, potholing, paragliding, sailing, fishing, horse riding, rock climbing and many more activities for the summer months, and downhill and cross country ski resorts for the winter. In July the Mountain stage of the Tour de France often passes by the chateau on the final ascent, and the village is alive with activity in the days leading up to this event. Add to all this the fantastic wildlife, thermal spas, Cathar castles and breathtaking scenery, there’s something for everyone in this unique property.

We had a splendid holiday - the flat is in a wonderful position and we'd be keen to go again.

We found the flat very well equipped. We thought that the provision of kitchen equipment was fantastic.

We headed up to Plateau de Beille, which we loved!! Deep snow and even 1 day with sunshine. It’s a real plus being so near your apartment.

The position of and views from the apartment were excellent and meant that we could relax and enjoy the setting without even having to venture into the grounds!

Fantastic property in idyllic setting

Stayed here for a week with my young family. The apartment is located around 300 metres from the local town of Les Cabannes where there are a few shops and restaurants within walking distance. The apartment itself is great, nicely equipped to eat in if you want to and is extremely clean and tidy. Tennis court is great with amazing scenery as is the swimming pool. The Chateau Gudanes in which the apartment is located close to is amazing and is in the process of being renovated, an amazing bit of history.

Lots to do in the locality like challenging yourself to do the Tour de France Plateau Beille challenge or go to Ax Les Thermes or even Andorra. Really pleasant and beautiful location

Great Stay

We had a really nice relaxing week here. Good apartment in an amazing setting.

Really enjoyed sitting out in the grounds and dipping into the pool to cool off - completely peaceful.

Village was a few minutes walk down the hill - great patisserie! Lovely stay.

Stable condition

We found the apartment to be no cleaner than some of the stables that once occupied the property.

Dreadful condition and we had to clean from top to bottom!

Activity and Interests

Car: recommended


The apartment is just over 1 hour's drive from both Toulouse and Carcassonne airports (regular flights from UK with RyanAir, EasyJet and BA). The local train station is less than 5 mins walk from the Apartment, serving a local route and also with connections to Paris and Barcelona. Car hire is recommended, and there is plenty of parking at the apartment.


The apartment is on the edge of Les Cabannes village. It is less than 5 mins walk from the apartment to the main square with restaurants, post office, tourist information and local shops. There is a Spar in the village, and the nearest supermarkets are in Tarascon or Ax les Thermes, both a 10 minute drive.

Further Details:

The local area has a lot to offer at all times of year. There is plenty of opportunity for scenic walks and hikes, cycling, kayaking, white water rafting, horse riding, climbing, golf and crazy golf. The grounds of the Chateau provide access to a shared swimming pool, tennis court and petanque pit. The apartment is 10 mins drive from the historic thermal spa town of Ax les Thermes. There are also a number of prehistoric caves and Cathar castles to explore.
