About the Owner

My name is Peggy and I currently live in our Warwickshire countryside home with my Swedish husband Michael and our cockapoodle Fifi.

Michael and I purchased our house 'C'an Chandre' in 1988 as a holiday home but spent nearly 15 years living in it permanently from 1993 onwards bringing up our daughter Cassandra there from the age of 5 years old.

We moved back to the UK in 2005 and now return to C'an Chandre for holidays as and when we all can with our large family and grandchildren.

The house has lots of character, lots of space and it's right in the heart of Fornalutx,just a short walk up the first flight of steps from the buzzing square (Placa) .

Beautiful Mallorcan home, breathtaking scenery

If you're looking for a traditional Mallorcan home surrounded by breathtaking views of the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, then this is the holiday home for you. The house and bedrooms were immaculately clean and has everything you need in the kitchen to prepare meals at home, the backdrop to the pool terrace/dining area is idyllic. The local town of Fornalutx is worth a wander, the locals are very friendly and there are some great restaurants (especially the pizzeria!), we also walked to Port de Soller for the Saturday market which was buzzing, and if you have a car, there are lots of great bars and restaurants in Porto Portals, great for people watching by the yachts. Overall, we had the perfect holiday and cannot wait to come back in 2016!

Very Special

We've just returned from a wonderful week in C'an Chandre. We've been coming to the Soller area for years and have stayed in Fornalutx on a number of occasions, however Can Chandre has been the most special place we've stayed. It's fantastically located just above the main square. It's a very big house and could easily accommodate 8+ but the 4 of us didn't feel lost in it. It's a perfect mix of a rambling, traditional Majorcan home but with large, often stately rooms. The accommodation is very comfortable with lots of beautiful antique furniture and original art coupled with conveniences like comfortable beds, a fantastically equipped kitchen, air conditioning, satellite TV, and fresh orange juicer (essential!!).

The best part of this house however is outside. The top roof terrace gives great views both up and down the valley, but it's the pool area that is fantastic. We spent lots of our time here, eating and drinking on the covered patio and going for a regular dip in the pool to cool off and all of this with great views of the mountains.

You'll be welcomed to the house by Uta who manages the property - she gives a helpful tour on arrival, puts wine and water in the fridge and is available throughout by phone for advice and help - a really great service.

Our stay was magically topped off by walking to our plane in Palma airport. Along the walls are huge advertising photos for special places to visit when in Majorca. One of these is for Fornalutx and the photo is specifically of C'an Chandre - need we say more!!

Beautiful Traditional Spanish Home

I stayed at this lovely house in August with my family for 1 week. This traditional Majorcan house is exceptionally pretty in an idyllic setting in the Soller mountains. The house was very clean, big enough for our family, with a plunge pool in the garden and a stunning backdrop of the mountains (the pool is perfect for the hot weather as the garden gets the sun all day). The local village has a nice bakery, some friendly local restaurants and while small it is only a short drive (or a 30minute walk) away from nearby Sollier village where there are cafés, church's and a great Saturday market. If you are looking for a peaceful break in the sunshine, in an idyllic setting, but within driving distance of Palma, Mallorca towns etc. then stay here! We cannot wait to book our next stay.

WONDERFUL!

We were fortunate enough to stay for 3 nights at the beginning of June and found everything to be perfect. This wonderful home in this little piece of paradise, which we hope to return to again. Fornalutx is a wonderful unspoilt village with bakery, shop and eateries all within walking distance. Fresh breakfast around the pool, every morning - what a way to begin each day.

Peggy & Michael couldn't have been more accommodating. Thank you!

Our best home away from home ever

Fornalutx is simply fantastic and gorgeous all at the same time. The 360 degree mountain views, the dry warm air, the quaint buildings, the Thursday evening live music, the coffee in the square, the walks in the mountains, the 5 minute drive to town or 10 minutes to the beach, the old Spainards sitting on a stone bench under a fig tree, the young Spainards cruising through on bikes and mopeds…everything is just so enjoyable. It’s almost too good to be true sometimes.

Anyway the place is amazing and we needed to find some accommodation that matched that. We were out late with our booking (March/April) for late June/early July but we found Can Chandre on HomeAway and Owners Direct. Can Chandre is not exactly cheap but to be honest the pictures on the website don’t do justice to how fantastic the place is.

Peggy, the owner with her Swedish husband, was great to make the arrangements with. She was hugely supportive and genuinely committed to making sure we were happy with our choice and comfortable with the arrangements.

Can Chandre is absolutely wonderful. Its BIG! it must be so old yet it is so expensively renovated that it feels modern.

The best bits for us:

the girls (12 & 14) - the pool and the proximity to the square, bakery, ice cream parlour

Annica - the house itself, the feeling she got every time stepping into the house when we got back from the beach or waking up in the 4-poster in the main bedroom. I know she especially liked the tasteful decor and the impressive art on the walls.

me - Fornalutx itself, there is so much to enjoy there every day especially the mountains.

So we had probably our best family holiday at Can Chandre. Thanks to Peggy for putting her wonderful house out there for the rest of us to enjoy for a short while.

C'an Chandre is a Grand Townhouse dating from 1100 originally a Moorish Merchants grand home. There is tons of character within the property. We renovated the property when we bought it in 1988 and have continued to make improvements over the years most recently adding a small pool to the garden. It is up the first steps up from the village square and doesn't have any direct car access. It's suitable for Families with older children and it would also be ideal for cyclists. There is a small side entrance to store bikes securely.

San Juan/Palma International Airport is 40 mins drive, car hire is recommended. Free parking is available in the village details will be given upon booking,.

Distances:

Sóller Town 7 mins drive. Deia artist colony 20 mins drive,

Valldemossa historical monastery where Chopin and George Sand lived is a 40 min drive. Esporles, La Granja working farm with museum 25 mins drive. Palma City with its magnificent Cathedral, marina for large yachts, many designer shops, etc 40 mins drive.

  • Notes on accommodation: Radiator heaters and ceiling fans in every room, 3 open wood burning fireplaces (kitchen, master bedroom and top living room with a wood burner suitable for use. The house is on 3 floors as it is expected in a mountain village there are 3 staircases. Outside: We put in a well-maintained saltwater pool last summer 2013 with shower. It has a custom built benched dining area, fridge, tiled work surface and BBQ. There is also a mini table and chairs ideal for breakfasting as well as two large sun loungers. There is an upstairs roof terrace leading up from the Master Bedroom with a wooden sun lounger, fridge and outdoor shower. Utility Room: Located in large family bathroom, washing machine and tumble dryer. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen provided. Should a visit by a maid be required throughout the stay this can be arranged at an extra cost. Other: Large top floor sitting/dining room/kitchenette with superb mountain views. TV, DVD player.
