About Mark & Claire Critchley

We first visited Menorca as newly weds over 25 years ago and fell in love with the unspoilt beaches and countryside and the friendly happy Menorquin people. Little has changed over the years with its designation of Site of Global Biodiversity - Menorca remains our favourite destination.

Working as Doctors in the NHS we were looking for a holiday home in an idylic spot for relaxing with friends and family with all the comforts of home- no compromise. After many years of searching we chose Casa Viola as it truly is perfect with its private tranquil setting in the pine woods yet close to the beautiful Son Saura Beach and all of the amenites in Son Parc that make a holiday easy and fun.

We really hope that our guests enjoy their Casa Viola Holiday as much as we do.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Mark, just to let you know that we have had the best time at Casa Viola. The villa was perfect for our family, kids (and adults) enjoyed the pool and the location was ideal for getting about. On arrival, the property was immaculate and welcome pack was appreciated, especially the nice bottle of rioja!!

By unanimous request, we would like to book again for next year!!!!!!!

It was one of the best holidays we have had thanks mainly to the villa.

The villa is fabulous and it was lovely and clean when we arrived.

The children as well as the adults loved the pool and made great use of it.

The best villa that we have ever stayed in.

Most comfortable holiday bed ever.

Relaxing holiday with 3 kids!

  • 5 of 5

We loved Casa Viola. The villa is equipped with everything you could possibly need and things you need but didn't have room to pack - like bikes and beach towels, sun shades and pool inflatables.

Arriving late made the welcome pack extra welcoming, and the chilled cava was an extra surprise. The garden offers herbs, and we also had tomatoes and a pepper.

The children loved the pool and Sky tv, perhaps not in that order, and the parents appreciated not having to cart tons of pool equipment, child paraphernalia and towels from hotel to poolside - and are now villa converts!

When we finally left the peaceful and secluded villa to explore we found the local beach child friendly with a long shallow bay with waves just below our tallest child's waist, and Pino Mar our favourite local restaurant (grilled catch of day).

This was a lovely holiday!

Great end of Season getaway

  • 5 of 5

Casa Viola provided everything we needed for a lovely peaceful end of season holiday. The villa is very spacious and fully equipped with shaded terrace and plenty of room around the pool. The area is quiet and we were surrounded by trees and nature. On our arrival the place was spotless and there was a generous welcome hamper. We found great snorkelling at Cala Pregonda and Cala Mitjana thanks to the maps and guides provided. Cycling around Son Parc was a safe and great exercise and further afield we had trips to Cuitadella, Mahon and Fornells. We shall be coming back to Menorca. Thank you both for a great stay.

Perfect Holiday

  • 5 of 5

What a perfect introduction to Menorca. We have already decided that we want to return in another season. The villa could not have been better. The owners have supplied everything that you would wish for yourselves. We have had many villa holidays and this has been the best because of the attention to detail. We always take reference books to support our hobbies, bird watching and butterfly photography, but there was a good bird book in the house and a very good range of guide books, thank you. Menorca has a lot to offer and the local woods provided a new species (to us) of blue butterfly and we saw many birds of prey flying locally. Hoopoes fly around the golf course and are a beautiful sight.

Owner's Response: Many thanks Jenny, We do try and make the villa a real home from home and to try and decrease all hassles so that our guests can relax and enjoy their holiday. It's really good to get such positive feedback. It has been a great year for wildlife, when we were out in May we saw ospreys catching fish and two flamingos in the Mongolfre reserve. There were definitely more wild tortoises around too. Thanks again and you will be very welcome to come back to Casa Viola. Mark and Claire

Relaxing Annual Holiday

  • 5 of 5

Our week staying at this well appointed, spacious villa was incredibly relaxing. It was lovely to arrive to a sun-drenched terrace in the late afternoon where the adults could relax with a drink and keeping an eye on the barbeque while the youngsters were able to jump straight into the pool! The villa is fantastically spacious with all the comforts you may need while away: the beds are comfy with lovely linens; the kitchen is fully equipped and there is a great dingy for the pool! The owners have put in considerable thought to ensure everything is there for a range of guests - the welcome hamper was perfect and much appreciated. Our family particularly enjoyed having use of the bikes so we could ride to a local beach bar and the tennis courts at the golf club. It was a great time of year to enjoy the local cliff walks with such fantastic scenery and so peaceful. Another highlight was horse riding through beautiful woods down towards the coast near the larger town of Ciutadella. A perfect family holiday in excellent accommodation!

Owner's Response: Thanks Nicola, Steve and girls, we are so pleased that you enjoyed your holiday at Casa Viola.Glad that you enjoyed the 'new boat' I too liked floating in the pool with a book and a cold beer- very relaxing! The horse riding sounds fantastic, our daughter really enjoyed galloping along the beautiful Pregonda Beach last year.

Delightful R&R Trip to Casa Viola,Menorca

  • 5 of 5

We spent nearly 2 weeks relaxing and enjoying this very comfortable and carefully tended villa in a delightful corner of Menorca. The villa has a lovely 'home away from home' feel to it and is situated in a peaceful setting surrounded by lovely gardens and trees ; beautifully comfortable beds and linens and a very well-equipped kitchen as well as the gorgeous outdoor terraces and pool. We made great use of the bicycles to explore the surrounding countryside and beaches; we discovered a stunning coastal path walk very close by and never tired of the view. The market in Mahon provided us with delicious fish and chicken to barbecue at the villa - not to mention the super fresh seasonal vegetables, fruit and various breads and pastries which made our al fresco breakfasts the best. There are necessary and varied amenities very nearby, a golf course with tennis courts for those need something more energetic and kayaking at nearby Fornells. The villa is thoughtfully maintained and a welcome hamper awaited us on arrival. Highly recommended.

Review of Casa Viola

  • 5 of 5

We all had a fantastic time at Casa Viola, the most perfect place to stay on our first visit to Minorca. Arriving late in the dark, our travel-weary boys were overjoyed to be able to jump into the lit depths of the lovely clean pool – deliciously cool. While our first impression of the villa was of a spacious, meticulously-clean and tastefully-decorated home, it was on waking the next morning that we realised the beauty of its setting. From the balcony of the master bedroom (where I could sit for hours in the morning listening to the sound of the cicadas and hoopoes) the view is onto the beautiful forest canopy around, not a house in sight – the garden surrounding the villa is in total privacy and full of bougainvillea, mimosa and hibiscus. A well-stocked shop is only a five-minute cycle away, and yet nature is all around you – we even met a wild tortoise at the garden gate! We found the villa extremely well equipped and the barbeque area and stylish canopied dining area makes outdoor-eating a real pleasure. Perfectly spacious for our two families holidaying together, the master bedroom (with its fantastically comfortable bed) at the top of the house would equally make it the perfect destination for a family where the parents would also like to relax with a bit of peace and quiet!
