The spacious apartment is on the second (top) floor of the East Wing of this tastefully restored historic residence. It overlooks a lovely 6000 sqm park (small co-ownership) with pool, BBQ and trout stream. There is a courtyard for private parking. A large wooden door leads from the main street of the medieval village of Chalabre with its shops, bars, hotel-restaurant and service station directly to the peaceful surroundings of the residence and its park. Chalabre is 40 minutes from Carcassonne and the A61 motorway, 15 minutes from the market town of Mirepoix and 5 minutes from a large lake for non-motorised watersports, walking and cycling. The Pyrenees and famous Cathar castles are only a short drive away.

We originally booked this lovely appt. so we could visit Carcassonne but once we arrived we found so many smaller villages to visit we didn't really find time. The Appt is lovely and has great views and a great pool and garden to relax in. The village is sleepy but has 2 bars 2 patisseries, and a supermarket. It is right next to a Route Verte which we used to cycle to the fantastic Chateau at Camon. The lake at Puivert was great for swimming and we visited Mirepoix which was much more authentic than Carcassonne. Overall this is a great base and we would highly recommend bothe the appt and Andre who runs it, and the little village of Chalabre.
Activity and Interests
Just over one hour's drive to the Mediterranean coast (nearest resorts are Narbonne Plage and Gruissan).
Carcassonne airport is 40 minutes away by car as is the A61 motorway. A car is essential as the situation is rural.
The residence is in the heart of the medieval village of Chalabre which has shops, bars, a hotel-restaurant, post office and service station. The famous market town of Mirepoix with its wide choice of restaurants and Monday market is 15 minutes away.
The Blanquette de Limoux vineyards are close by and the Pyrenees and famous Cathar castles are within easy driving distance.

- Notes on accommodation: The apartment is on the second floor with stone steps leading from a small communal hall. Sorry no pets allowed! Outside: The apartment overlooks the park which has mature trees, a pool and plenty of shady areas for outdoor eating and relaxing. There is a brick-built BBQ and a small stream runs round the park. There is also a courtyard for private parking just below the apartment. Utility Room: Small utility room with washing machine. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bedlinen and towels included at no extra charge but guests staying for two weeks are expected to leave one set of linen clean for the following guests. Property cleaned for arrival.
