Villa in Alcalali, Jalon Valley, Costa Blanca - Private Pool Walking Distance to Village and Restaurants

Casa Mariposa is a beautiful, south facing villa set on a hillside amongst pine trees above the charming village of Alcalali. Located on the edge of a peaceful residential area, it has both sunny and shaded, private outside terraces with breathtaking views across the green Jalon Valley to the mountains beyond. A covered terrace for al fresco dining looks across the pool to the panoramic views. The Jalon Valley is known for its many excellent restaurants, some within walking distance. Tastefully furnished, there is a comfortable open plan living/dining room and a well equipped kitchen, plus internet access. In the main house are two very spacious bedrooms, both with A/C; the master with en-suite shower room, a twin with private balcony and a family bathroom. The third double bedroom, with A/C and en-suite shower room is in a separate annex, accessed from a garden terrace. The villa can be rented as a 2 or 3 bedroom villa and is ideal for groups wanting a little more privacy.

About Rachel

Hello, my name is Rachel and along with my husband, David, we own the two properties we have on Owners Direct. We are a family of 4 and although British, we are now based in Singapore.

Over the years, we stayed in many different holiday homes in many different countries and for our properties, we wanted to provide something that really worked - both for us and our visitors.

We believed we've created two homes from home and have had many compliments on both places. If you choose to stay in one, we hope you will very much enjoy your stay - we always enjoy visiting either house ourselves.

Why Rachel chose Jalon Valley

We bought Casa Mariposa early in 2005. Despite visiting other areas of Spain we always found ourselves drawn back to the valley and after a whole year of searching, we finally found what we were looking for. We love the location - quiet and private yet not isolated and, of course, our wonderful views across the valley. I can't imagine how many hours we've spent on the naya just watching the light change as the sun moves round!

We love the late afternoon and evening when the low light creates the most magical glow on the many white painted farmhouses and the villages below us. Furnishing the house from a range of local shops, was a real pleasure. I wanted to provide comfort and simplicity but with a homely feel too. and believe that has been achieved.

What makes this villa unique

The valley has everything we want to make a great family holiday. There's plenty in the region to keep us all entertained. Then afterwards, nothing beats returning to the peace and tranquility of the the villa and dinner on the naya or maybe a local restaurant.

Then, of course, there are the hours we've spent lazing in the pool on a hot summer afternoon. Having children of our own, we have installed gates around the pool terrace to give parents of young children peace of mind so youngsters can play away from the pool. We've equipped it with everything you should need and are often complimented on this. In Casa Mariposa, we really feel we've found somewhere special - it's always hard to leave and we have many returning guests who have fallen in love with it too.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"We loved the villa! We really appreciated the extra touches and would certainly consider coming back. We will certainly recommend you to our friends. Many thanks - we will treasure many memories." RL Swindon.

"We had an amazing time and would return to your villa anytime." MM, Salford

"We had a really wonderful time at Casa Mariposa. We particularly enjoyed the view and we enjoyed a good number of your oranges - the best I have ever tasted! We went for the walking and enjoyed a number of walks in the area." IB, Ashbourne.

An Awesome villa!

  • 5 of 5

This villa is absolutely fantastic. Six of us flew to Alicante for a week of climbing and were blown away by the awesomeness of Casa Mariposa. We arrived Friday 24th October to find an immaculate villa in the perfect location for a week on the crags. The nearest climbing was within a ten minute walk and the furthest we drove in a week for a days climing was 45minutes. The villa itself was spotless with all the creature comforts of home which was well appreciated after a hard days climbing. The three large bedrooms (two large doubles and a large twin) are all on suite, the kitchen fully fitted, a comfortable lounge and dining room, two outdoor eating areas (one of which has stunning mountain views) and a great pool which we made good use of even in late October. The area is quiet and we barely saw never mind heard any neighbours. There are restaurants and bars in the nearby villages however with such a good villa we cooked and ate at home every evening. On our arrival there was even a basket of complimentary food and wine and cold beers in the fridge - you can't ask for better than that!

Everything regarding the booking ran smoothly and the owners directions and instructions were spot on and easy to follow.

Thanks Rachel for a great visit and we hope to visit again next year. We even have our family now planning a non climbing visit after how good we've told them it was.

All the best

Excellent villa

  • 5 of 5

Everything about this villa is above and beyond expectations. The rooms are bigger than expected. The views more spectacular and everything you could need has been anticipated. There was a lovely welcome pack and we really appreciated not having to buy things like washing powder and soap. Everything was clean, well appointed and in good working order making it a very relaxing family holiday.

Xabia's Bike in nearby Xalo is good for bike hire. Our favourite day out was to Les Fonts de L'Algar. Beaches are at least a half hour drive (but pool and views more than make up for that) We thought El Portet next to Moraira was nicest.

Awesome Villa

  • 5 of 5

This has to be one the best villas we have ever stayed in. The views are absolutely stunning and we were able to watch the red squirrels feeding in the pine trees below us. The villa was wonderfully maintained with everything you would need and a fabulous welcome pack was provided on our arrival.

The swimming pool was amazing and a pleasure to use and even pool towels were provided and very comfortable sun loungers for our use.

I would have no hesitation in recommending this villa and hope to return again at some point.

Seriously good villa

  • 5 of 5

One of the best villas we have ever rented, our holiday was greatly enhanced by the thoughtful way Casa Mariposa is equipped and by the excellent maintenance service. Brilliant views of vineyards and mountains with comfortable places to sit and enjoy them, an excellent pool, equipment that worked, and very comfortable beds. What more could you possible want when seeking home from home in the sunshine! The Jalon valley also didn't disappoint. We found lots of good local restaurants, an excellent supermarket in Jalon, interesting bodegas and pottery shops and plenty of lovely walks in the surrounding countryside. A great holiday destination.

Owner's Response: Thank you Stephanie for you feedback and as we really like to try to create a comfortable home from home, we are genuinely delighted when people enjoy it there as much as we do. Having stayed in many holiday homes and had to buy the basics (that often only come in bulk) we do like to ensure people have the cleaning items and also for the dishwasher and washing machine. I also know that the welcome hamper is also a great thing to turn up to rather than an empty kitchen. We would be delighted to to welcome you back any time.

Highly Recommended

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I have stayed at Casa Mariposa many times. It has a great location, being quiet and peaceful, yet close to the local towns of Alcalali and Jalon. The welcome-packs are excellent - always enough for a meal, including wine, in case of a late arrival. We tend to visit in Winter and the temperature in the Jalon valley is usually very pleasant. To ward off the evening chill, we burn logs in the living-room fireplace, which makes the villa quite cosy. Thanks to the well-appointed kitchen, we normally eat in. There is a great supermarket in Jalon (Masymas) and also the bodega (local wines, great price). Our hobby is rock-climbing and there are lots of climbing areas close to the Jalon valley, including an excellent one, just 2 - 3 minutes from the villa! Overall, I would highly recommend Casa Mariposa, whether you're looking for a relaxing break or a more energetic holiday!

Pictures don't the villa justice

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at many villas in the Costa Blanca, and Casa Mariposa has to be THE best within the price range. There is nothing that you will find you need, even beach towels are supplied. The views are stunning, the pool a good size, plenty of outside furniture to sit and relax and enjoy the surroundings and soak up tranquility. In the garden there are fruit trees, while we were there the figs tree was keeping us supplied with at least 30 figs a day. If you have small children the pool area is gated for safety. A new kitchen has more than enough crockery and cutlery, and well laid out. We made a last minute change to our booking and that was no problem for the owners. There was a welcome pack of food and drink that I think was the best we have had anywhere.

If I were to find any fault, and I'm struggling to find one, I would say the front parking area a little tricky to get off, but there is a second space in a car port, so its not a problem at all really. A little far from the beaches if you must leave this beautiful villa, but in Spain roads aren't crowded, so for me that's not a problem either. We went out and about most mornings and only used one tank of diesel in ten days, which shows the villa is located centrally for all the sight seeing places, I've used up to three tank fulls at other villas.

We don't usually go back to a villa a second time as we find memories are never the same, but Casa Mariposa has changed our mind about that.

Excellent value for money, excellent all round, an easy 5 star rating

Owner's Response: Thank you very much Andy and great to hear that you had such a good time. We have always tried to provide what we want from a holiday home, so I am always very happy when guests enjoy it as much as we do. Very pleased to hear you were enjoying the figs too - they are particularly declicious!
