Farmhouse near Huercal-Overa, Almeria - Very private pool

Utter peace and quiet. A very private farmhouse set in its own 8 acres of terraced land, with wonderful views down towards the coast below and easy access to the mountains above. The farmhouse is in a serene location among almond groves and 200-year old olive trees half way up the valley of Fuente Amarga where the natural spring provides mineral water for drinking and irrigation to the surrounding oasis. With fresh air and utter peace and quiet away from the packed costas. The local landscape is arid semi-desert which certainly has its own beauty. The surrounding valleys are covered with olive groves, almond, fig and pomegranate trees.

I have meaning to email you ever since we got back to tell you what a great time we had at the house in August and to thank you for your thoughtfulness. The house was just perfect: idyllic setting; loads of space, though plenty of places to have a bit of peace and quiet if you felt like it; every need anticipated and catered for and plenty of space and furniture for eating out. I've stayed at so many places that cater for large groups but don't quite provide enough seating! Everything was just so lovely from the bedrooms to the pool! I am gushing now so will finish!

Outside: Around the house there are approx 400sqm of patios and gardens, including a newly built BBQ area near the walled Andalucian patio at the rear of the house with citrus trees and palms. There is a large terrace at the side of the house with 180º views of the valley below. At the front of the house there is 150sqm of terrace with a 10x5m pool. The steps down into the pool cover the whole width, so are ideal for laying around in and for easy entry and exit. Sun loungers, low Moroccan table with 4 stools, and other outdoor dining furniture available. There are plenty of spaces to find somewhere quiet and relaxing, even if you are on holiday in a big group. Loads of space for kids to explore. All bed linen provided. Towels not provided. 40 mins away is the coast at Mojacar (beach bars, all amenities, diving school, water sports).

Other beaches nearby, north of Mojacar - Garrucha (great seafood restaurants), Vera (naturist beach), San Juan to Aguilas (beautiful unspoilt coves) and there are numerous almost deserted beaches along the coast just south of San Juan.


There are 4 Airports all within an approx. 2 hour drive of the house.

Almeria - served by Ryan Air/Easyjet/charter flights. Murcia San Javier - served by Ryan Air/charter flights. Alicante - served by Easyjet/BA/Monarch and Granada - served by Ryan Air. Detailed directions from all airports are available.

The house is situated approx 60 miles south of Murcia city, and 60 miles north of Almeria city. All airports are easily accessed via the E15/A7 motorway.


The house is approx 15 mins from the small market town of Huercal-Overa, all amenities and some nightlife. The nearest village, Urcal approx 3 miles away has a mini-supermarket that has most things including fresh bread, fresh fruit and veg and drink.

Lorca, interesting town with bars, good shops, beautiful palaces, castle and churches is approx 20 mins away.

Murcia, is approx 1 hour away, as is Almeria - both worth a visit.

There are some excellent dining out options in Huercal-Overa and other excellent seafood restaurants nearby, in Garrucha and Mojácar on the coast. Day trips: Granada - 2 and a half hours away.
