About Alex & Alison Wright

We've been married 25 years (how time flies when you're having fun). We moved to the area in 2003, after redundancy, in search of an "adventure" and to escape the City rat race. We've never looked back. We live here permanently, absolutely love the life and the area. So much so, that all our family now live in France within 30 minutes of us. None of us would even contemplate going back to the UK, it's great to visit, but for us, this is home. We went from being bankers to builders, creating the gites, to running our own business and love every day. We also love our free time during the winter, to go on holiday, whether it's cruising or diving or both. Or the odd building project for the family. Life is never dull and now we're doing it all over again.

Alex & Alison Wright purchased this barn in 2003

Why Alex & Alison Wright chose Perigord Blanc

The property is set in stunningly beautiful rolling countryside. It's incredibly peaceful, yet just minutes away from all the most popular tourist attractions. It's also within easy reach of the major towns - the regional capital Perigueux, Sarlat and Bergerac, very handy for the airport. Cendrieux is a working village, with lots happening throughout the year. We even have night markets in summer. We wanted a challenge to renovate a property and that's what we got. It was a steep learning curve, but great fun and now we really enjoy seeing the pleasure on every one's face as they walk through the gate. An estate agent rang last week to see if we're interested in selling - I said "nobody could offer us enough money, we feel like we've won the lottery".

What makes this barn unique

Peace, tranquility, yet amazing facilities. We don't know anyone else who offers the same range for the same price; Fully equipped kitchens (we challenge you to find anything we have forgotten), air-conditioning, heated and covered pool, hot tub/jacuzzi, plenty of bathrooms and very comfortable beds! New visitors often comment how the Gites look and feel new, even after 12 full seasons. We provide a very personal service, if you want it. Recommending restaurants (and booking them), places to visit - how to make the most of your stay. This year 50% + of our guests are repeat visitors, some of whom booked 12 months ahead, sometimes before they'd even left. That says a massive amount about the holiday we offer. We promise you won't be disappointed.

A pleasant gite in lovely surroundings

  • 4 of 5

We had a really enjoyable stay here. The gite had everything you need and was clean and modern. The garden was lovely, very well maintained and a bench and little swing chair is provided for you to enjoy the gorgeous sunset which you can see every night. The owners are very welcoming and friendly. It takes about 20 minutes to get to the neighbouring town because Cendrieux is in a quiet area but there are loads of attractions nearby.

Just wonderful! No expense spared

  • 5 of 5

If you've come as far as reading the reviews don't hesitate and book now, you will not be disappointed. Alison and Alex are wonderful hosts, they aren't at all imposing but are there if you need them. There are two gites, both have been furnished to an extremely high standard with everything you could possibly need. We felt very relaxed and it certainly felt like a home from home. The garden is beautiful and well maintained, plenty of shaded areas. The pool could not be better, it's clean, warm, a good size and the UVA/UVB cover is fantastic especially if you have a baby or young children. We had a fantastic holiday and really hope to return.

Wonderful holiday

  • 5 of 5

What can I say about our stay with Alison and Alex !! From the moment we arrived until our very last evening, we were absolutely thrilled with everything from the pool to the sun deck. Having never before been to the Dordogne, we found A and A's knowledge of the area to be really helpful. We managed to eat at their favourite restaurant (twice) !! Having been on numerous gite holidays in rural France, I can honesty say that everything was perfect, even down to the oyster opener !! We ate and drank with A and A and have rarely felt so relaxed. Alex gave me advice on which lake to fish and where to fish and I managed 10 carp over the two weeks, with the biggest just under 30lb. I'm so glad I took my strong line. We will most certainly be returning to Le Monchat....if only to throw the ball for Nellie

Fantastic Holiday

  • 5 of 5

I have had a wonderful 2 week holiday at Le Monjat. I have had fabulous recommendations such as the night market and firework display at Le Bugue. The pool has been awesome fun and the hot tub is a great way to finish. As of restaurants I suggest La Chai and coulant chocolat (chocolate fondant.) Nelly has also been a fun dog to have around.

Thank you

Catherine age 8

Alex and Alison have been great hosts, booking restaurants when you can't. They have made the stay as good as it was. Also, Nelly was a great dog to play with, making it no easy job to beat her in games.she is an excellent dog if you want to throw her ball for her. In the morning she sometimes comes round to make sure everyone is ok. The pool has been amazing with a retractable cover enabling you to swim in the early morning and at night. Alex and Alison make sure you settle in well. To me, the stay was excellent. There is a kayaking and canoeing plae in Le Bugue where you choose where you start from. Thank you so much.

'Great location' is about all I can add to what the kids have said. Alex and Alison are brilliant hosts, the pool and gite are excellent. We had a brilliant time and this might actually make it into the bracket of somewhere we will visit more than once - something that only one other property has been able to claim for us in the last 25 years.

Accomodation beating expectations

  • 5 of 5

My fourth visit to this gite was as I have come to expect, a warm welcome on arrival at this well appointed gite. Owners are friendly and on hand most of the time with advice on things to do and always aim to meet any additional requests. The pool and hot tub are always clean and at a reasonable temperature and set in the private garden with superb views are perfect to relax in. Cendrieux is well placed for access to tourist destinations in the Dordogne and Vezere valleys as well as the larger towns and cities of Bergerac, Perigeux and Bordeaux. Cendrieux itself is a small village and has a bar/restaurant, 'relais' (mini-market) and post office.

There are many good restaurants within 30 minutes drive from Cendrieux, we would highly recommend Julien's at Paunat, Couleurs at Campagne or any restaurant in Tremolat.
