About the Owner

We've been married over 20 years (how time flies when you're having fun). We moved to the area in 2003, after redundancy, in search of an "adventure" and to escape the City rat race. We've never looked back. We live here permanently, absolutely love the life and the area. So much so, that all our family now live in France within 45 minutes of us. None of us would even contemplate going back to the UK, it's great to visit, but for us, this is home. We went from being bankers to builders, creating the gites, to running our own business and love every day. We also love our free time during the winter, to go on holiday, whether it's cruising or diving or both. Or the odd building project for the family. Life is never dull and now we're doing it all over again.

Great location; Great accomodation; Great Hosts

  • 5 of 5

There are so many good things about this property that make it a great place to stay:

The location is quiet but still convenient for immediate facilities (shop and restaurant) as well as short trip to town for all the 'bigger' needs.

The gites are well equipped, everything is immaculate when you arrive (Alex even cleans and polishes the barbecues!) and the pool is excellent - temperature is always just right to cool you in the heat but allow the kids to stay in indefinitely without getting cold.

Alex and Alison are superb hosts - Lots of ideas on places to eat or visit and even making bookings at those places that are, for non-locals, a little more difficult to access. They are very conscientious in sorting out even the smallest of hiccups with the facilities.

I would strongly recommend this property to anyone... so long as you don't book before we do!

Great family holiday gite

  • 5 of 5

Great rural location, properties finished to a high standard and a fantastic pool - the retractable sun protection roof made it safe for the children at any time of the day. Hosts Alex and Alison were discreetly available to answer any questions we had. Would definitely recommend this for family holidays.

Lovely gite in great location

  • 5 of 5

Our family of mixed ages ranging from 19 to 68 stayed in both gites for a celebratory week. We all found that both gites had everything that we needed and were decorated nicely and were very comfortable. The pool, with cover was well used during our stay, despite the mixed weather that we had during the week. The hot tub was very popular and was beautifully hot. The garden was very pretty, with lots of lovely shrubs and plants and the views were spectacular. Lovely quiet place to sit and watch the sun come up and set. We were able to play boules and badminton on the large lawned areas. Plenty of wildlife came into the garden and the owners dog was very friendly, but only allowed to come around if visitors were dog friendly and wanted to fuss her. There were bikes provided, which were great for easy riding down the quiet secluded lanes that surround the gites. I would recommend staying here for families that want to enjoy a peaceful and quiet break, who want to enjoy what rural France has to offer. It is perfectly located to visit a variety of attractions. The village is very pretty and people are friendly. Alex and Alison are very welcoming and although live in the house attached to the gites, are unobtrusive, but on hand. They were very helpful when we had a medical issue and required an unexpected dentist visit. Personally I would not want to be so close to another gite if both gites were hired separately, as there is only a fence panel between the two gites, so visitors should be prepared to be in close contact with each other - ok though if you don't mind compromising your privacy. We had a fantastic stay and the Dordogne region is beautiful.

Le Monjat

  • 5 of 5

The photos of Alex and Alison's place only give half of the idyllic picture. They can show the excellent surroundings and fine facilities but they don't show the warm hospitality that Alex and Alison give to complete the package.

Plenty to do at Le Monjat and in the surrounding countryside, Cendrieux is centrally located so nothing is more than an hour's drive. For the adventurous types canoeing the rivers are close by and for culture and wine St. Emillion and Bordeaux are perfect for a day trip.

Time spent there is time cherished.

From the Owner

The property is set in stunningly beautiful rolling countryside. It's incredibly peaceful, yet just minutes away from all the most popular tourist attractions. It's also within easy reach of the major towns - the regional capital Perigueux, Sarlat and Bergerac, very handy for the airport. Cendrieux is a working village, with lots happening throughout the year. We even have night markets in summer. We wanted a challenge to renovate a property and that's what we got. It was a steep learning curve, but great fun and now we really enjoy seeing the pleasure on every one's face as they walk through the gate. An estate agent rang last week to see if we're interested in selling - I said "nobody could offer us enough money, we feel like we've won the lottery" especially now the hot tub has arrive.

From the Owner

Peace, tranquility, yet amazing facilities. We don't know anyone else who offers the same range for the same price; Fully equipped kitchens (we challenge you to find anything we have forgotten), air-conditioning, heated and covered pool, hot tub/jacuzzi,plenty of bathrooms and very comfortable beds! New visitors often comment how the Gites look and feel new, even after five full seasons. We provide a very personal service, if you want it. Recommending restaurants (and booking them), places to visit - how to make the most of your stay. Alex has even been known to cook, that's a treat. This year 50% + of our guests are repeat visitors, some of whom booked 12 months ahead, before they'd even left. That says a massive amount about the holiday we offer. We promise you won't be disappointed.
