Quietly and conveniently situated in the popular Coronado complex within the prestigious Parador area, Apartment La Joya (meaning little gem!) is just a stone's throw from the steps leading to the blue flag award winning Burriana beach. Famous for it's speciality paella, cooked outdoors in a large pan over a wood fire. Burriana has a very pretty bay with a mountainous backdrop meandering down to the water's edge. Flanked by a good choice of restaurants and cafes, the beach also offers sunbed, parasol and pedalo hire and has plenty of space, even inhigh season! There are also several other smaller coves and beaches all within walking distance - literally one for every day of the week! For evenings out, a short stroll along the historic Calle Carabeo brings you to the heart of Nerja and the picturesque Balcon de Europa, a palm fringed promenade which juts out over the sea on a rocky promontory, affording superb (and much photographed) views of the mediterranean and mountains beyond.

About Sue

My husband, daughter and I are originally from Bristol in the South West of England although we haven't been back since 2003! Shortly after buying our farmhouse here in Andalucia, (originally intended for holidays) we moved out lock stock and barrel - plus 2 fat bemused English cats. We just couldn't resist the pull of sunny blue skies and the slower pace of life! Our two cats were soon joined by 4 kittens, 2 puppies a baby goat won in a local bar (that's another story!) and a truly stubborn mule! My parents then retired and followed us within a few short months. My father says it reminds him of England in the 1950's when people had more time for one another and priorities were different.

Why Sue chose Axarquia (Costa del Sol)

We were delighted to find our apartment in the Coronado complex, its a truly welcoming place and is so convenient for the old town, shops, tapas bars and the beaches, and as we had been holidaying in Nerja since our daughter was in a pushchair, it felt like coming home to us!

A view was also important to us, and we are lucky to have the mountains and the sea and our balcony is great for watching the sunrise and the moon come up, ideal for those who like people watching too!

Dear Sue and Trev, Just to let you know we have had a lovely holiday here in Nerja. The apartment was very clean and well presented, and in a great location, it had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. Lovely views also. We visited some of the restaurants you mentioned, our favourite was el Portico in Town, 3 course menu for 10e! And the food was lovely -ate there 3 times! Many thanks for the welcome pack it was much appreciated as we arrived late at night. We hope to return to Nerja in the future and would definitely stay here again. Once again many thanks we had a great time!

A wonderful family holiday in a lovely apartment

We had a great holiday in this lovely apartment. It had everything we needed for our family stay (2 adults and a toddler). The views of the sea and mountains are gorgeous and we loved sitting out on the balcony having our breakfast/lunch or a glass of wine in the evening! The location is great and just a few minutes walk to the nearest beach and a short, pleasant stroll to the Balcon de Europa area. The pool at the apartment was nice with the added bonus of having a childrens pool which our son loved! There are shops, restaurants and a well stocked supermarket (essential when travelling with a toddler!) on the doorstep of the apartment.

Sue is fantastic to deal with during the enquiry/booking process and beyond. She provided excellent customer service and was always on hand to answer any queries. As well as a lovely welcome pack there was also a bucket & spade for our little boy who was delighted with this!

Thank you again for a lovely stay and we hope to be able to visit again soon!

A wonderful two weeks in a lovely apartment

This apartment is equiped with everything one needs, is in the most convenient position for brilliant restaurants and shops on your doorstep, as well as having beautuful views of the surrounding mountains and also the sea. It is situated in a quiet residential area yet is only a 7 minutes stroll to the Balcon, an absolutely perfect spot.

However what made it even more special has been the way the process has been handled back to when I first booked the apartment. Sue you have been amazing, so helpful and quick to respond to any queries. I spent the second week here on my own and Sue and Trevor even took time out to meet me for a quick drink and to make sure I was ok - how nice was that! The knowledge that they were on hand for anything gave me great peace of mind. I did however feel completely safe and confortable in their apartment and in Nerja generally, a lovely town.

I am sure I will be back.

Gem on Calle los Huertos

Lovely clean cozy well maintained apartment. Already booked return stay.

Very central for shops restaurants and beach.

Cordial owners who are contactable if necessary, who left very thoughtful welcome.

Use of beautiful pool and garden.

Would well recommend it.

Beautiful apartment - Excellent location

We were fortunate to take a short break (wish it could have been longer) at this little gem of an apartment - as the owners call it, and were not disappointed, spotlessly clean on arrival and every attention to detail making for a thoroughly enjoyable and comfortable stay. Sue and Trevor are excellent hosts and we appreciated their tips on where to go and what to do. We ate at the Rincon de sabor just around the back of the apartment several times, has no view but a pretty outdoor dining terrace with friendly service and very good food, especially the fresh fish and ribs, although we couldn't eat them all ! Also free tapas at the bar, everything fresh and tasty. We loved the location of La Joya, a nice level stroll to the centre and also close to beaches, you can take the steps or go along the path by the Parador hotel. Burriana beach is beautiful and we had iced coffee with free mini ice creams at the Tropy sol, more than once! All in all a wonderful experience, we will certainly be back and wont hesitate to recommend the apartment and nerja to friends and family.

Fantastic stay at La Joya

My husband,two children aged 13 and 17 and I have just had a great week at La Joya.The apartment was clean and had everything we needed for a very comfortable stay.Sue's directions from the airport were brilliant.

The view's from the balcony were stunning and we could also see the pool(where there was always a lifeguard in attendance)

The beautiful beaches are just a short walk away as was the town with great shops and restaurants.

We were in contact with sue by email during our stay as we had a problem with the shower,Sue response was very quick and she arranged for her husband to come out and fix the problem.

I would recommend La Joya to friends and would like to come back again soon.Val

Beautiful apartment

My second stay at this lovely apartment. Spotlessly clean and very comfortable, more like a home than a rental, the views are fantastic and the location so convenient for everything; the old town, beaches, shops (a super well stocked mini market just opposite) and of course bars and restaurants. The owner Sue is very helpful and makes the booking procedure very simple. As a single female traveller it is also nice to know that either Sue and Trevor - or their family - are on hand if I need anything, a nice personal touch. The complex is well maintained and has a friendly relaxed feeling, its easy to blend in with the locals here and feel you belong. The apartment itself is obviously well cared for and I know has many repeat guests, so my advice is book early! I am already planning my next trip!

Coast/Beach:

A superb variety of beaches (including the famous Burriana) and smaller coves are all within walking distance. There are also a choice of natural park environment protected beaches at nearby Maro where you will find some stunning coastline with excellent diving.

Travel:

Car hire is NOT at all essential for a stay at Apartment La Joya, however, we can arrange car hire if you would like to get out and about and explore the surrounding areas. Malaga airport is around 40 minutes drive and we are happy to arrange a taxi transfer for you. Taxis are usually plentiful outside of the airport and around Nerja town.

Further Details:

Further afield the famous Nerja Caves are well worth a visit, as is the award winning white village, Frigiliana, and both can be reached by bus or taxi - which are generally plentiful and reasonable. The caves are situated between Nerja and the neighbouring small white village of Maro, which has a very pleasant beach, made more so by the fact that there is no direct vehicle access, but well worth the walk! For the more athletic, bike hire, scuba diving, horseriding and golf are all available within Nerja or nearby. For keen walkers, there are plenty of countryside and riverbed walks to take advantage of here with the opportunity for birdwatching in the nearby natural parks.
