About Lisa Kuhwald

Hi we have 4 little boys, aged 11 and 9 and 4 year old twins. We currently live in England but previously lived in Spain. We have had the cottages for 10 years, and have spent many happy holidays here since the boys were little. It is ideal for toddlers and children as they have so much outside space and freedom to run around. We enjoy the relaxed outdoor lifestyle.

Lisa Kuhwald purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Lisa Kuhwald chose Periana

We love the area of Periana/Lake Vinuela as the scenery is stunning, it is very peaceful and you get a taste of real Spain. It is away from the crowds of the coast but only half an hour to the beach, so easily accessible whenever you wish to go. You can easily explore both the Costa del Sol or the many stunning scenic drives in the mountains and villages of Andalucia. We enjoy the outside lifestyle and exploring many tapas bars in the hillside villages! as well as driving to the coast and relaxing on the beach. You can travel easily to the cities of Granada, Malaga or Cordoba experiencing the Andalucian lifestyle, fantastic architecture and special treats such as the Moorish baths. In winter we love to travel to the sierra nevada to ski (1.5 hrs away) and then head back for some sun!

What makes this cottage unique

The cottages are just a few minutes drive into the village of Periana and a few local restaurants and bars, so you can chill by the pool and then easily nip out for something to eat and drink. Children have a ball here, running around, swimming, climbing trees and generally playing outside. The pools are fenced (cottage 2) or gated (cottage 1) as safety by the pool is always an issue to us having little ones ourselves. The cottages also have a sandpit, swing and hammock to keep the children amused, cottage 2 has a slide and playhouse too.

Notes on accommodation: Both properties are suitable for children. La casita 1 has gates around the pool with fantastic gardens and olive grove for children to explore including a sandpit area and swing. Casita 2 has fencing all around the pool and a large patio area, partly shaded. Ideal for putting young children to bed and eating alfresco! It also has a roof terrace where you get fabulous views of the surrounding mountain and lake. The stairs for this are gated again making it safer for children. The garden area has a childs playhouse, slide and sandpit. For the cooler months each cottage has a wood burning stove and mobile electric heaters are available. Car hire is essential. Guests are provided with a welcome basket of basic provisions upon arrival. Outside: La casita 1: Private gated pool 7x4m overlooking the lake and leading down to a sunny decked area with amazing views. It has a lovely garden with seating areas amongst the olive trees and hammock as well as a dining area on the terrace, and sandpit and swing for little ones. Casita 2: Private fenced pool 6x4m very safe for children. A large flat terrace next to the pool, is ideal for sunbathing & al fresco dining. The garden and decking area have sunny and shady parts great for sitting and looking at the fabulous lake views, as well as a childs playhouse, slide, and sandpit. The roof terrace enables you to see the stunning mountains all around as well as lake and sea views. Both are private and great for individual families or 2 groups wanting a joint holiday but some of their own space. Both superb for children, with lots of outside space for exploring. Casita 2 is particularly fab for toddlers due to the fenced pool. Both ideal for putting kids to bed and dining outside.

Beautiful picturesque and delightful cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic stay in this quaint and beautiful Spanish cottage. The accommodation and facilities were of a high standard. The cottage was extremely clean and beautifully furnished. We stayed for a week and the cottage was the perfect base to explore the local area and close enough to a water park for the children or the beach both just 25 minutes drive away. We stayed at the cottage in the daytime for 4 out of the 7 days as we had everything we needed to relax and enjoy the stunning views of Lake Vinuela whilst enjoying a dip in the lovely pool. This cottage is perfect for a relaxing holiday in the peaceful sourroundings overlooking Lake Vinuela. It is only a few minutes drive to the beautiful little town of Periana where you can enjoy some tapas or have a drink in one of the bars. There is also a supermarket which is perfect for provisions and also fresh bread and fruit. There are plenty of stunning restaurants within minutes of the cottage and an excellent butchers just minutes down the mountain if you prefer to barbecue.

I would highly recommend this cottage for its stunning location and high standard of accommodation.

Will definitely visit again.

Thank you for a great holiday.

We stayed here in October last year. The cottage was amazing, in fact the best Iv ever stayed at. It was full of quaint Spanish charm coupled with a great family atmosphere. The pool was beautiful and the views from the deck, pool and cottage were breathtaking. Kids played in the pool all day whilst we relaxed in our own beautiful surroundings. This was a perfect holiday in perfect surroundings. All in all a totally perfect holiday. Am definitely going to book again this year. Cant wait to go back.

Car: necessary

The larger coastal resorts of Torre del Mar (25 mins drive) and Nerja (approx 35 mins drive) offer lovely beaches and water sports: scuba diving, snorkelling, canoeing. You will also find fantastic restaurants and nightlife. All along the coast there are many beaches including secluded and naturist. There is a water park in between Velez-Malaga and Torre del Mar,(open high season) and go-karting, horse riding, walking and fishing are just a few of the many other activities you will find here.

Malaga Airport is less than 1 hr away. Granada Airport is approx 1.5 hrs away.

Car Hire is essential.

The village of Periana is a few mins drive, famous for its olive oil and peaches. Lake Vinuela is 5 min drive u can sail, windsurf, walk or bbq.

There are many other hillside villages to explore, or just while away the afternoon at a local restaurant. The larger town of Velez-Malaga is 20 min drive here is a large shopping mall.

The coast (Torre del mar, Nerja) is 25 min drive away, Granada is 1.5 hrs with the unmissable Alhambra Palace, Malaga 1 hr and beautiful Cordoba 2 hrs.

Further Details:

Periana, a typical spanish village, has 2 banks with cash points. A supermarket and various other shops selling groceries. A butcher, fresh fish and bakeries. There is a doctors, dentist, chemist and post office. Each Wednesday a street market. There is also a variety of spanish bars and local restaurants. Other resturants can be found in villages all around the lake.

5 min drive away there are picnic areas around the lake.

During the summer months you will find local village ferias where you can mix with the locals, sample local dishes and music.

In Periana they celebrate olive oil day (in April), day of the peaches(in July), fiesta de san isidro(the village saint) in May and feria de Agosto (August feria). A must see if you holiday then!

Whether you just want to relax by the pool or take up your favorite pastime of walking, sailing, fishing, mountain biking, horse riding, golf, water sports you are sure to find it in this beautiful and relaxing part of Andalucia.
