About this property

Traditional Stone House near Rome with Beautiful Views and pool

The house with pool (both for the exclusive use of the guests) is situated in the small hamlet of Moretto, two miles below Piglio. It is set in a mountain-side olive grove, near the foot of Mount Scalambra, with beautiful sweeping views. It is only 10 minutes from the Rome-Naples A1 motorway, 45 minutes drive from the Rome circular (GRA), two hours from Naples and 1 hour 15 minutes from the beach - Sabaudia/Terracina. Nearby towns include Anagni, "Città dei Papi," and the spa town of Fiuggi.

Piglio is famous for its Cesanese wine, but the white wine Passerina is also delicious! The Association of the Strade Del Vino Cesanese has a website detailing the 26 locations in the vicinity that you can do wine tasting.

A nearby cycle track that follows the track of the old train that used to travel between Fiuggi and Rome is great for walking.

The house has three bedrooms - a triple, a double with en suite and a bunkbed room. There is an additional pull out day-bed in the kitchen that sleeps two. In addition to the en suite, there is a full family bathroom and a ground floor guest toilet.

The new kitchen is fully equipped with pretty much anything you could need.

The sitting room has a lovely open fireplace, for cooler evenings. It has a stereo system that plays records, CDs, cassettes and radio. You can also connect to the stereo system or TV sound bar via Bluetooth. There is a TV and DVD player and an extensive library of CDs, records, cassettes and DVDs. There is also a bookshelf with lots of novels in English and some in Italian.

Outside, there are three terraces. The top one open to the sun, the lower one is a vine-covered pergola and the third is the 'pool terrace'. The pool is only up in the months of June, July and August.

Haus in Panoramalage

Tolle Ausicht, perfekte Einrichtung
Insgesamt sehr empfehlenswert!

A peaceful country Retreat
Beautiful old stone home with all the amenities. A fully stocked kitchen large enough for 6-8 to eat at the table. The views outside the windows are spectacular! Communication with the owner was fabulous! She always responded with any problems or questions. The caretakers Ivana and Luigi were very accommodating and helpful. Loved the little visits from their dog and kitty🤣 Beds were very comfortable and bathrooms adequate for all your needs. A beautiful retreat from the world yet close enough to pop into the grocery store or other amenities and restaurants. Loved our 3 weeks there👍👍

Sehr erholsamer Urlaub

Nice place in a beatiful landscape
The house was super clean and perfectly equipped, exclusively the kitchen with an extraordinary view on the stunning valley below the premises. The terasse was also very spacious and constitues a perfect place to eat and have a glass of wine while enjoying the nice view. The pool was quite small but perfectly for our needs to occasionally cool off from the sunny wheater. All in all, very recommendable! Thanks!

About the host

Hosted by Kristina Dockray

Host profile image
I started letting this property over a decade ago on behalf of my mother, although we stopped for the last few years due to personal circumstances. My brother and I inherited the house recently and have carried out some major works, including adding a new staircase, downstairs toilet, an en suite bathroom to one of the bedrooms and a stunning new kitchen.

Why they chose this property

My grandfather bought this house in 1957. Though Swedish, he worked most of his life for the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation in Rome. He, my grandmother and mother played golf regularly at the Fiuggi Golf Club, hence the choice of location for his weekend house. It is a beautiful and unspoilt area, with relatively few foreign tourists, yet it is easy to get to Rome and centrally placed to visit many interesting places.

What makes this property unique

If you want to chat to real, local Italians, the neighbours/managers - Ivana and Luigi - are always keen to get to know our guests. But they will also leave you alone, if that's what you prefer. If you want to get to know them, just invite them round for a cup of coffee or a glass of wine or beer!
