About the Owner

We have spent many wonderful holidays in France over the years and explored most areas. Last year we decided it was time for us to move from England to the beautiful Charente area to realise our dream of living a quieter more relaxing lifestyle.

We were drawn to this area in particular, because of the beautiful countryside and lakes, the slow pace of life and friendly local community who welcome you with open arms.

La Charente is typically French with many old traditions still practiced. We love to visit the many local markets, have a lazy lunch in one of the wonderful local restaurants and watch the world go by, or visit Limoges or Angouleme for an occasional shopping day.

We have certainly picked a wonderful part of France and there is still so much to explore and enjoy!

A fantastic week!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week staying at this property. There is lots of living space to accommodate everyone, and the bedrooms very comfortable. There is also lots of outdoor space and the pool was lovely.

It was great to meet the owners, Izzy and Steve, who live next door, and they'd do anything they could to make our stay as enjoyable as possible.

I'll be recommending this property to family and friends!

A lovely gite!

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely gite. It lived up to expectations. Lots of bedrooms, a really nice pool and a very well equipped kitchen. At the same time it retained its character. The garden was great and really good for outdoor eating. The owners were most helpful and welcoming and we shall definitely be back. We shall recommend it to friends as well or come with them! Nearby in the village is a nice boulangerie and the lakes nearby are good for swimming. The region is also lovely for cycling and walking.

A fabulous week at la Tourterie, near Montbron.

  • 5 of 5

What a fabulous week. The Farmhouse gîte at la Tourterie was well equipped for the evenings we decided to eat in. The bedrooms were spacious and clean. The pool was a delight, set in a peaceful garden. Steve (the owner with Izzy) was up every morning cleaning and maintaining the pool ready for us to use whenever we wanted. We found la Tourterie, near Montemboeuf, ideally situated for our favourite outdoor activities (canoeing, swimmimg, walking, wind surfing). The village of Montemboeuf (1km away) has everything you need, including a wonderful bar run by Mamie. Thanks to Izzy and Steve for a wonderful stay in relaxed surroundings. Our every need was catered for.

Fabulous Farm House

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful farmhouse with our own private garden and swimming pool. The house was very spacious and well looked after but still keeping in touch with its historic french routes. The Garden was well maintained and overlooked neighbouring fields. The location was superb for a relaxing family retreat and the weather added to experience nicely.

We arrived mid-morning on the 17th and were greeted by a very friendly english couple who owned the property plus the neighbouring house. They were very warm and accommodating and were able to give us directions to near by towns and any other questions we needed answered. We found some lovely nearby restaurants (within driving distance) and stumbled across some wonderful french markets on the recommendation of the owners.

We truly had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend it to any other large parties or families who are looking for a relaxing friendly re-treat.
