Villa Modica is five minutes by car from the centre of Modica. In March 2003 UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization)has acknowledged that the city of Modica and its surrounding areas to be added to the world heritage list for the baroque treasures it holds in its historic buildings and architectural design unique only to this part of Sicily, in Modica was filmed the renowned Italian TV series 'Inspector Montalbano' that's been showing on BBC3, the town built between two valleys and hills is known for its Baroque architecture, has restaurants, cafés, supermarkets and shops. Modica is also called the Positano of Sicily the town of Modica was so particular until the middle of the last century that it was called the second Venice of Italy: it is situated on the valley where two torrents merge into each other and there were a lot of large and small bridges to connect the zones of the lower area.

General Description: At the villa we have a secure full size play ground of 140 sq meters for the children to enjoy with lots of toys, plus Netflix for movies and children entertainment ..The Villa is located on a strategic point: this part of Sicily has an abundance of art, archaeology, history, breathtaking scenery and of course wonderful food to offer. You will certainly be inspired by the brilliance and beauty of the town, by the stunning, secluded beaches, tranquil vineyards, ancient olive groves. And you can also explore Mount Etna, the greatest volcano of Europe, Catania, a splendid city lying between Etna and the Ionian Sea, Syracuse, with its temples, its Greek Theatre and Roman Amphitheatre, and its Ear of Dionysius, Ragusa, with its traces of human settlements dating from as early as the 3rd millennium BC. Or, if you prefer something really breathtaking, why not go to Agrigento and see the Valley of the Temples?Anyway, the list of wonders that are waiting for you is too long to be written here. But Villa Modica is a perfect choice even if you just decide to indulge your senses spending lazy afternoons and suntanning..

Inside the Villa: Inside, Villa Modica, is modern and comfortable. It comes with a fireplace, Smart TV with Netflix , screens on windows and 4 air conditioned bedrooms. Fifth bedroom has cooling fans.

Maid service or a cook for an original Sicilian meal can be arranged at the time of booking.

Outside the Villa: From outside, the views are breathtaking, you may hear the peal of Modica's bells from a mile away and the closer tinkling of cowbells. Already old when the Greeks found it, Modica is a vibrant city of 50,000 that's filled with mysterious feasts, great restaurants, and ancient wonders. In the summer, the beach town of Marina di Modica, 20 min away is abuzz with night life. Also within 20 min are the catacombs of Cava d'Ispica and Baroque city of Noto. Modica offers this intense taste of Baroque with its splendid views, its treasures of art, its churches, its palaces, its decorated portals risen on the ruins caused by the great earthquake of 1696 which destroyed a large part of Sicily, particularly Modica. We have especially planned for small children and babies, particularly with regard safety. All access points to the pool have gates to keep young children outside of the pool area. Salt Water Pool no red eyes or chlorine smell. Pool season starts April 1st till October 31st, from November 1st to March 31st the pool will be open on request with an extra charge of 250 Euros. Gas Weber BBQ.

For golf lovers ,only 30 minutes away there is resort that has two 18-hole championship golf and practice range with 70 stations. Golf Academy with video systems, putting and pitching green. One of the 2 fields is a Gary Player signature course and the second 18 holes, Links, was designed by Franco Piras. Golf House with terrace bar / restaurant overlooking the golf facilities with changing rooms, storage golf carts, pro-shop, etc.

Mild winter and a hot dry climate and always a light breeze in summer make it an ideal destination for the whole year offering unforgettable golfing experience.

Other Activities:

The pool has access from three points in the garden. All access points have gates to keep young children outside of the pool area.

The Happy Farm activities are based on how the land is cultivated , devoting care and attention to the animals, discover the secrets of the garden and its curious inhabitants, collect vegetables, fruits and herbs from the garden and discover the flavors of tradition; those are some of the activities that our little ones can experience being in contact with nature!

The opportunity for children to perform daily choirs on the happy farm, we aim in creating a suitable environment for children's physical and psychological needs, which allows to expand the possibility of "practical life activities" (care of the environment, of self and others). Those are activities that arise from real hands on experience and to develop knowledge of how wonders of nature work, they allow you to "absorb the surrounding environment" and to elaborate it "according to their level of experience"; to experiment and test its own skills, to take possession of themselves and learn with hands on.

This is how your child through the "activities of daily living" on the farm learns about himself/herself, and the way to be with others and nature.

"What the child learns must fascinate him/her, we must give them great things: to start with offer them the world." Maria Montessori.

Cost 10 euros per day.

hours from 8:30 am to 12:30 noon.

Must be booked at time of booking or a few weeks in advance..

Why Ilona chose Modica

We have it all for a great family vacation, in ground solar heated salt water pool, tennis court, large playground, Happy Farm Educational Activities, its like being at a resort at a great value, the villa is strategically located just a scant mile away from the city centre of the Medieval baroque city of Modica famous for being a friendly and a feel good city, from the villa you can see the panoramic view of the city resting on the hill, it has the feel of a nativity scenery, just looking out of the front door it takes the breath away. The city is renowned for its rich culinary tradition offering an amazing variety of seasonal dishes that follow the sicilian traditions. Sweet and savoury dishes, summer and winter food are on offer for a real taste of the county. That's why we bought this villa.

What makes this villa unique

Our Villa has everything you need for a memorable holiday and is close to everything- EU blue flag beaches, shopping, restaurants, nightlife, winery, beautiful countryside. A beautiful 12m x 6m swimming salt water Pool and international size tennis court on-site for renters use only. The residences offer peace and tranquility with just a distant noise of cow bell or the church bells only a scant mile away. Wide open skies with no tall buildings or hotels to block the views. No ambient light in the evenings which allows for a truly spectacular view of the milky way at night and in the summer shooting stars can be seen from the pool's deck. Located in agricultural area-unspoilt and tranquil.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Superb value and if you like your own space, this villa has it. Enjoyed Most: Garden areas and pool - they are beautiful and huge! Unpleasant Surprises: This is a tough question as this is a beautiful villa. The master beds were a little uncomfortable. Surrounding Area: Lovely rural aspect. Tips or Restaurants: Be aware there are no taxi services in Modica after 8pm. La Torre d'Oriente is an excellent restaurant. Overall: The owner was the perfect host. He was always available but never intruded. We loved having the meal ready Saturday when we arrived along with some provisions. After a long, tiring travel period, that was wonderful and delicious! Enjoyed Most: The meticulous attention the owner gave to his property and the villa. The beautiful views. Unpleasant Surprises: Italian beds never seem to meet American standards. Surrounding Area: Modica is a truly charming town. Good shopping, good restaurants, great ambiance.

Super villa large enough to accommodate a family party whilst also giving everyone "their own space"

  • 5 of 5

The whole family absolutely loved our one week stay in October at villa modica.

Using the co-ordinates we drove from Catania airport direct to villa modica avoiding modica centre - an easy drive - making a mandatory stop at lidl on the way (at Rossini)- for the all important wine etc.

On arrival we were met by Georgiou who gave us a tour of the property and grounds. We were so surprised to note that there was an extremely generous grocery pack including wine - and that Nina had cooked a fabulous lasagne (who could ask for more! - we have never experienced such generosity in any villa stay before- and we have sampled many over the years).

The weather was excellent and although the pool was a little chilly the children (and not forgetting mother!) enjoyed the pool every day.

Georgiou was so helpful and assisted us with a wine tour/tasting and also olive pressing - both a great experience.

There was also a restaurant recommendation for "maria fidoni" at frigintini so we gave it a try and were so pleased we did. Although there was no English spoken (who needs! its more fun!). The evening meal took the form of a fixed time/fixed price menu - several courses- with carafe of red wine (20 euro each). The food was all home made and was wonderful. Whilst there are many places to eat in modica, do give this a try - you wont' be disappointed.

Villa modica is a lovely family villa - very well equipped - so if you have forgotten anything you will be sure to find it here). There are lots of animals for the children to see - donkey - goats - chickens, ducks, peafowl etc and with the super zip wire/children's playground - plenty to keep children occupied.

Amazing Villa - perfect for families

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved this villa. It has everything you could wish for. We loved the swimming pool and tennis court. My 3 year old was delighted with the sand pit, tree house, animals and play area. George is a fantastic host, so friendly and helpful. We arrived late and they had a delicious dinner ready for us. The house also has toys and all the essentials for young kids such as a cot, high chair, baby bath and bed rail. There is lovely outdoor areas and a BBQ. Really they have thought of everything. We can't wait to go back!

Beautful villa, excellent amenities

  • 5 of 5

I visited Villa Modica late May with my husband, daughter, her boyfriend and 3 family friends for my husband's birthday 50th birthday.

The villa is in a beautiful spot about 10 minutes drive outside of Modica. It is a large property that is very well maintained and some rally nice touches, e.g. A UK multi-point adapter, hairdressers in all the bathrooms.

We did have a little difficulty finding the property initially but once we found it George let us in thought the electric gate our lovely week began.

There are four good sized bedrooms in the main villa and 3 bathrooms, none are en-suite but are quite convenient to the bedrooms. 2 bedrooms are king size beds and the other 2 are singles but can be made up to doubles. Two bedrooms lead onto a lovely conservatory.

The separate bedroom is on the lower floor and accessed through the gym. This area has an en-suite bathroom, a fridge and a washing machine, so really a separate annex.

The living room is comfortable with 3 large settees and a TV. There are lots of books available to borrow and a few games.

The kitchen is very well stocked with crockery, cutlery, glasses, land and cooking utensils. There is a utility room with a washing machine and also an additional toilet off the kitchen.

George arrange for Maria to come in and cook for us on my husband's birthday. The meal was excellent and Maria lovely.

The pool area is fantastic with plenty of sunloungers and parasols plus a ping pong table. The views are amazing.

There are 2 outside eating areas which benefit from the sun at different times of the day. The evening area has 2 BBQs and a very large table.

There are lots of towels, including beach towels, and plenty extra bedding if required.

The petting zoo is lovely with a tree house and zip wire and the tennis courts will be ready shortly.

George was extremely helpful. On our first day he took us to the local supermarket and pointed out an amazing patisserie for the birthday cake.

The only downside we found to this villa was the driving around Modica and the parking in Modica was very difficult but we found a useful car park on Corsa Umberto and there is a great bar / pizza place directly opposite, Baricentro. If you are a nervous driver this villa isn't for you. You could walk into Modica but it is all up hill on the way back and not really safe to walk up the road in the dark.

That said, we had a fabulous week and would all absolutely recommend this villa!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the positive review and we are pleased that you enjoyed your stay at our villa. Sorry that you had a bit of difficultly finding parking in Modica, the city of Modica is a vibrant place and it dates back to 1500 BC, it was build and designed in an era when there was no cars, only horses and buggy , so parking is a bit hard to find sometimes, but over all its a clean and safe place to enjoy an evening walk with a gelato and there are plenty of restaurants ,pizzerias and coffee bars to explore. We love what we do at our villa and we try hard to always make our guests feel relaxed and comfortable . Grazie.

Glorious for all ages, amazing location, ace hosts

  • 5 of 5

We were a family group ranging from 73-3yrs and everyone had an incredible time. Nothing was too much trouble for Giorgio and his wonderful family. The swimming pool was kept spotless. There's a decent sized shallow end for non-swimmers to enjoy and plenty of room for the rest! Best of all for the children were the animals. Giorgio let all ages join him in the daily fun of tending to them. The house is spacious with large bedrooms and a much appreciated separate flat, with its own private entrance, that the grandparents escaped to! There are three glorious eating areas to be able to enjoy different views of the valley or be inside. There is a good supermarket less than 10mins drive and best of all, the beautiful town of Modica is only a couple of minutes away. We enjoyed running in the early mornings and the house is perfectly situated to take in the town and return on a perfect 10k loop. There is SOOOO much to see and do in the area that we feel we have only just begun. Every day was a different excursion from beautiful towns to ancient, classical sites. And THE best ice-creams in the world! But for those who did not feel like getting in the car, there was no need to go anywhere. The villa is a haven, plenty of sun beds and shady spots to read in, and soak up the stunning view of Modica. We all agreed it was our happiest holiday ever!

Fantastic!

  • 5 of 5

The property and location are truly amazing but the best aspect was the sincere and friendly property owner. Giorgio went above and beyond in assisting us in all our needs from transportation to restaurants to garden vegetables. It was touching that there was a meal awaiting us upon arrival. The location is handy to grocery store, cafe, town of Modica and tourist spots. The pool and balcony areas allowed for great relaxation areas with a large group. Highly recommend this villa!

Special interest holidays:

Horse riding, hiking, beach walks. Cooking classes or private city tours can be arranged at time of booking.

Coast/Beach:

Beautiful uncrouded sandy beaches can be located within a 20 minute drive of Villa Modica. And the world renowed nature reserve Vendicari is 17 miles away famous for its quiet and unspoilt beaches as well as its flamingos also the southern coastline has many long stretches of golden sandy beaches, mostly wild and very clean, and with shallow waters.

Travel:

"New" Ryanair has Direct Flights from London Stansted Airport to Comiso Airport at very cheap rates only 40 km from the villa.

Catania airport, approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes from Villa Modica. Car hire is ideally recommended but not absolutely essential as Villa Modica is located on the hills of Modica, a 20 minute walk into town.

Distances:

Villa Modica is 5 minute by car from the center of Modica. In March 2003 UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) has acknowleged that the city of Modica and its surrounding areas to be added to the WORLD HERITAGE LIST for the baroque treasures it holds in its historic buldings and architectural design unique only to this part of Sicily, Modica, built between two valleys and hills is known for its Baroque architecture, has restaurants, cafes, supermarkets.

Further Details:

On January 2012 BBC 2 broadcasted a TV series Sicily Unpacked,Episode 2 was filmed right here in Modica,Andrew Graham-Dixon and Giorgio Locatelli took part of this fascinating journey through Sicily, Andrew and Giorgio explored the legacy of Spain's 500-year occupation of the island and the influence this has had on art and culture. And it's not only art that is experiencing a resurrection on the island but agriculture too: the wine, that only 20 years ago was considered only good enough for blending vats on the continent, is now one of the most fashionable in Europe and is being exported all over the world.

The Villa's location offers total privacy to enjoy a relaxing holiday. So, if you are looking for a quiet getaway, this is the perfect choice. But, at the same time, the Villa is a strategic point: this part of Sicily has an abundance of art, archaeology, history, breathtaking scenery and of course wonderful food to offer. You will certainly be inspired by the brilliance and beauty of the town, by the stunning, secluded beaches, tranquil vineyards, ancient olive groves. And you can also explore Mount Etna, the greatest vulcano of Europe, Catania, a splendid city lying between Etna and the Ionian Sea, Syracuse, with its temples, its Greek Theatre and Roman Amphitheatre, and its Ear of Dionysius, Ragusa, with its traces of human settlements dating from as early as the 3rd millenium BC.

Or, if you prefer something really breathtaking, why not go to Agrigento and see the Valley of the Temples?

Anyway, the list of wonders that are waiting for you is too long to be written here.

But Villa Modica is a perfect choice even if you just decide to indulge your senses spending lazy afternoons, tasting excellent food or maybe re-creating Modican original recipes in your own, self catering accommodation. Because we are ready to fulfil your every need.
