Villa in Montpellier, Languedoc Roussillon - Situated Close to Beaches, River Gorges, ancient villages and vineyards.

This charming villa is only 5 minutes walk from this charming village centre, on the outskirts of Montpellier, with its ancient church and delightful river walks. It's only 10 mins by car to the beautiful historic centre of Montpellier. Access to the house is via a short private drive into the pleasantly landscaped grounds.

It is very generously laid out with spacious lounges, terraces to the front garden and cool terraces in the back. The large, rambling and secluded garden with its own generous pool, terraces and barbecue area has been landscaped to preserve the natural beauty of the original Languedocian Garrigue. Garden furniture around the pool and patios, and a large outdoor barbecue provide an inviting opportunity to relax late into the warm summer nights.

The interior of the house is tastefully furnished with a large living room with large screen LED 3D TV and music centre with DVD dolby digital surround; second spacious reception room with French door to the back terrace; dining room; fully equipped kitchen with 4 hobs, electric oven, fridge/freezer, microwave and dishwasher.

There are 5 comfortable bedrooms, (1 with double beds, 3 with King size beds, 1 with a single bed). One of the upstairs bedrooms has its own balcony; there is also a study with a sofa bed for 2 additional guests, leading onto the front terrace; 3 bathrooms, separate WC; the basement is spacious with provision for up to two cars. It also has a laundry area with a washing machine and drier, and an additional fridge/freezer. There is also a play area with a table tennis table.

A truly stunning villa

This is already our second visit, we had the most wonderful time at Les Cigales. Everyone agreed what a comfortable, well-equipped home it is with a lovely atmosphere. It feels like people have had very happy times here, the house is immediately so welcoming.

The nearby village shops had everything we needed - a bakery and delicatessen/ grocers with fresh fruit and vegetables, amazing cheeses and pates. It was glorious!

The villa is easily reached from the airport with or without a car (I have done both!) and Montpelier is easily reached by bus and tram or car and ride. There are beautiful nearby sandy beaches with miles of golden sand.

Having said that, there's an enticing hammock in the villa garden that made it very easy to while away the days reading and gently rocking!

We are already planning our return.

The Fantastic Villa des Cigales

THANK YOU for a fabulous holiday. The first holiday for our two families in 5 years and we couldn't have been happier with the villa. The house is fabulous and we particularly loved the terrace. All our young children had a fabulous time too as there is so much space to play. The villa is in a great location; near the sea, the mountains and the beautiful city of Montpelier!

We will be coming back!!

Another fantastic stay!

Once again our 2 weeks have come to an end, and we are sad to be leaving. As usual we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay; fun times in the pool and lovely evenings on the patio.

In addition to our usual visits to Carcassonne, Minervois, Sète, Marseillan Plage and Saint-Guilhem-le-Desert, we had a day trip to Tain l`Hermitage. Exploring the Cité du Chocolat (Valrhona headquarters) and the Hermitage Vineyards. Highly recommended for chocolate lovers and wine buffs!

Thanks again for another lovely stay - we hope to make it a 4th time!

Our holidays in Villa des Cigales, 10th-24th August 2013

The villa is in an outstanding location beautifully sheltered from the villas round about by clever planting. We have enjoyed days by the gorgeous pool and evenings on the terrace in the tranquillity of the surroundings. August is very busy at the beach and all the tourist attractions - such as Pont du Diable, but Montpellier is a fascinating city and we would recommend the little train (which leaves from Place de la Comédie). It tours the historic part of the city and is a good way to see what`s on offer. William`s taxi is brilliant and he is very informative.

"Our holidays in Villa des Cigales, 11th-25th August 2012

We all arrived on the 11th August, after a very very long journey.We all thought that the villa was lovely, with plenty of room for everyone. It`s been very hot each day. We will all be leaving with a good tan!

The children have really enjoyed their time in the pool. After two weeks we will be returning home, but wont forget our lovely time here.

We had a lovely holiday enjoying our time playing in the pool, canoeing 12km, the wonderful beaches and especially the village fete, including entertainment such as the bulls. The weather has been brilliant and we dont want to go home"

Villa des Cigales is extremely well situated between the golden beaches , & the natural Camargue with its famous flamingos & lively fishing harbour towns (25 minutes), & the mountains with rivers and gorges and medieval villages (also 25 minutes). In addition the beautiful historic city of Montpellier with its vibrant streets, boutiques, restaurants and cultural events, just 10 minutes away by car, or 20 minutes by tram from the end of our village right up to the Place de la Comédie in the centre. The village itself offers a whole variety of shopping facilities, with its weekly open-air market, two bakeries, butcher with excellent daily freshly prepared dishes, and take-away pizzeria, & a bar opposite where you can enjoy a pastis or beer, while your pizzas are prepared for you.

The village has various shops, including its own fresh bakery, excellent butcher with a variety of daily freshly prepared dishes, a small supermarket with a good choice of local produce & fresh vegetables and fruit, bank, pharmacy, post office, a small bar, take-away pizzeria, and a lively weekly street market on Saturday mornings 8.30-12.00. For the sporty at heart there is also a fully equipped gym in the village centre. There are horse riding stables nearby, a pony riding club, and also an International go-carting circuit about 5km away.

Canoing and kayaking with river swimming is only 25 mins away. The nearest long stretches of beaches are 25 mins by car.

The nearest big supermarkets Carrefour, Intermarché and Casino are only a few miles away.

Leisure Activities nearby:

The village has a tennis centre with a coffee shop. There are 2 a riding schools nearby (3 km), and for cycling and mountain biking enthusiasts, more recently, an entirely newly built cycle track that runs through the whole of Grabels and continues right up to Ales.

There is also a challenging 18-hole golf course, beautifully landscaped among the greenery of pine trees, in the next village of St Gely du Fesc, 5km, with a restaurant and outdoor pool.

Enjoy canoeing and kayaking in the nearby mountain landscape of the Hérault and the famous mountain rivers of the Cévennes.

Other water sports such as surfing, water skiing and sailing are on offer at the nearby beaches and the breathtakingly beautiful lake Salagou, 30km away. Lake Salagou is also popular for fishing, and especially well-known for carp fishing.


25 minutes south by car leads to numerous beaches with long stretches of golden sands such as Palavas, Carnon Plage, la Grande Motte and Le Grau du Roi, offering restful tranquility or lively water sports and beach games.

We highly recommend the stretch of beach along the `Grand Tavers` at the end of Carnon Plage and beginning of La Grande Motte beach, where you can hire sunbeds for the day with excellent restaurant and bar facilities.

There are quite a few of these beach resorts, one for example is `Le White Beach`, route des plages, sortie Grand Tavers, Accès 59.

There are also the world famous natural Étangs of the Camargue with its wild flamingoes and white horses.


Montpelier Airport 15km. Nimes Airport 40km. Montpellier Station 9km. Car hire strongly recommended. Excellent ‘Park & Ride’ tramway leading from outskirts of Grabels directly into Montpellier Centre.


The historic centre of Montpellier is only 8km away, with its 16th century cathedral, labyrinth of medieval lanes lined with street cafés and restaurants, museums, theatres, parks with fountains, vibrant street markets, and the Place de la Comédie, where the locals mingle with visitors and tourists from all over the world. 20 mins north leads into the mountains with spectacular scenery, ancient villages with museen, boutiques, bistros and bars, river gorges, natural caves, and their lively canoeing and kayaking facilities.

Costs are anyway low during the summer season and are exactly as charged by the local public electricity utility and will be taken off the damage deposit. There are no other costs.

The villa itself is beautifully set in its own grounds, with plenty of space, lots of bedrooms and bathrooms, terraces to the front and the back of the house, very private with fencing and hedging along all the borders of the garden and lock-up gates with ample parking space for several cars. It is entirely possible & very tempting to stay put in the comfort and tranquillity of the villa and the pool, doing all your food shopping in the local village if you wish to be really lazy without venturing to explore the surrounding area.
