House in Comares - Spectacular Location With Panoramic Views

Casa del Tajo - 'The House on the Cliff' occupies a unique position, overlooking the spectacular mountain scenery of Andalucia. It is close to the village swimming pool (July/Aug) and only a short walk from the centre of the picturesque mountain village of Comares, which stands 700m above sea level .With breathtaking views from the house you can survey the mules and goats being taken down the steep track that winds below the cliff. Look out for kestrels, that nest on the rock beneath you. Comares, with narrow,cobbled streets,is steeped in history and can be traced back to the 3rd Century BC. Today there are bars, restaurants, banks & a small supermarket. The pace of life is slow and in keeping with the past. The house consists of 5 bedrooms,4 doubles and 1single.

(The bedroom in the dome is self contained with its own kitchenette,living room and shower room with a double bed settee in the living room) 3 bathrooms ,one with bath,two with shower cubicles ,kitchen / diner ,living room /diner. The house is on several different levels with fairly steep stairs inside and steps outside, not really suitable for very small children but fine for slightly older ones.

Very nice appartment

A beautiful quirky property in an awesome location with amazing views

We spent a week here in September and found it difficult to leave the roof terrace because of the beautiful views.Watching people climbing the cliff below the terrace was a quite surreal experience.

The property is wonderfully quirky in layout but this adds to the fun of staying there. Everything was clean and tidy and we had everything we needed for the week including a welcome cupboard of basic food, wine and beer.

The booking process was straightforward and excellent instructions were provided so that we found the property easily - thank you to Sheila. Kate was very welcoming when we arrived and available if we needed her.

We will be revisiting as soon as we can work out when to plan our next stay.

Super villa super views

From the moment we arrived we found the villa and views from the two terraces absolutely breath taking. Kate and Tim made us feel really welcome, although they live near they never bothered us but assured us they were at hand should we needed them. We needed a cot for our little one so they went out and bought one(a fantastic gesture).

The villa has views I never tired of, watching birds of prey from above, wild mountain goats, old men on donkeys followed by tame sheep, wonderful! The town has a small supermarket a few bars and the locals were really friendly who encourage you to speak Spanish, for me it was heaven. The only downside is the twisty road that has to be navigated to reach comares which will always be worth it for such a special place. I honestly would recommend this little piece of heaven to anyone.

Owner's Response: We are delighted to have received such an excellent review. We try to make our guests feel at home in our very individual property, which we have been renting out since 2002. The roads up the mountain from Malaga airport are certainly twisty but with good crash barriers and very well surfaced. One route is mountain road all the way, the other goes further on the motorway and only the last 7 kms are mountain road.

Fantastic location with stunning views!

We spent a wonderful short break late last year at Casa del Tajo, Comares. The views that greet the traveller are simply awe-inspiring. The dramatic mountain range and olive groves give breathtaking views that are characteristic of Comares - The balcony of Axarquia.

Casa del Tajo commands a prominent position with stunning views that would take some beating. The interior of the apartment was scrupulously clean, light and airy. The kitchen was well equipped and organised and a useful amount of the basics in the kitchen store cupboard/fridge were provided. The owners, Kate and Tim have created charming separate areas for cooking, eating, relaxing, reading and watching tv or listening to the radio. There are brilliant photo opportunities from the generous sized terrace area, that is very well equipped with furniture for dining, sunbathing or as we did most evenings just sitting with a glass of Rioja, enjoying the changing evening landscape.

Kate and Tim were very welcoming and on hand to help with any queries or suggestions as to where to eat/drink etc. but other than that, they left us to ourselves. We very much enjoyed our stay and would gladly recommend Casa del Tajo, so much so, that we have booked for a return visit this September!

Location

Special interest holidays:

The beautiful countryside around Comares with its spectacular views and mountain paths, is a favourite with walkers and bird watchers.

Look out for Kestrels nesting on the rock beneath Casa del Tajo. Also Black wheatear, Griffin vultures and Bee eaters to name only a few.

Coast/Beach:

Approx.40 mins drive to Torre del Mar. Sandy beaches and promenade.

Approx. 1 hour drive, Nerja has outstanding beaches.

Travel:

Approx. 1 hour to Malaga Airport. Car Rental is also at the airport. Car hire is recommended but not essential. There is a daily bus service (not Sundays), leaving Malaga bus station at 1800 and returning from Comares at 0700. Local taxi from Comares can be arranged through the owners. Cost one way is approximately 50 euros.

Distances:

Approx. 35 mins drive to Velez-Malaga with Aquapark, shopping centre with cinema, large supermarket -Eroski(where you may need your passport to back up your credit card). Approx. 40 mins to Torre del Mar (beach, market, go-karting & golf). Approx. 1 hour to Nerja (famous caves, outstanding beaches)

Further Details:

The Alhambra Palace at Granada, Seville, Cordoba & Ronda are all within striking distance. Open air swimming pool at Comares available in summer. This area would appeal to photographers, hikers, bird-watchers, artists and mountain bikers.
