Holiday Home in San Vito, Nr. Menaggio - Relax Amidst Specimen Gardens, Lakefront Charm and Stunning Panoramic Views

The Dreamer's House (Villa Sognatore, independent on 3 sides) is a true lakefront property located 10km north of Menaggio on the renowned northwest shore of Lake Como. The house positions its guests right on the lake with private access to the water, which is the best place to acquaint oneself with the beauty and tranquility that make Lake Como so unforgettable. The setting is a botanical paradise as well since the property is surrounded by well-maintained, terracing gardens with mature specimen plants, palm trees and perennials. The property includes 4 stone patios at different heights, and 2 large terraces off the bedrooms and living room facing the lake, all affording breathtaking views of the water and Alps. A new scenic walkway on the lake passes in front of the property, giving the guest access to restaurants, shopping, ferry stops and the lakeside villages of San Vito, Pianello del Lario and charming Musso and its port. A separated guest house with the 3rd bedroom/WC is included. Famous villas, sites, shopping, dining, tourist information, golf and more are a 10-15 min drive to the famed central lake area. Trips to St. Moritz, Lugano, Milan, Verona and even Venice can be done in one day.

About Corina

We first visited and then purchased property on Lake Como in 2000 and have been frequently visiting the area each year ever since. The Dreamers' House is our only rental property. A belated review but I wanted to post my thanks for such a lovely holiday. Every need was met (with the only exception of no air con which is needed during the night). The lake house was comfortable, clean and had every modern convenience you need. The hosts communication was wonderful and friendly and always got back to me quickly.

Upon arrival you can pretty much lock the front door and not open again till you leave. Situated perfectly on the lake shore (in fact the pontoon is situated over the lake), you are able to walk out of the garden, onto the pontoon and then walk the lakeshore. Go right and you can reach a couple of restaurants in less than 5 minutes. You can catch a bus from here into Menaggio. Go left from the house, again follow the shore line and within 15 minutes stroll you have access to more restaurants and shops.

Overall, a dream of a holiday was had. Thank you Tim & Corina.

Dreamers House return in '16

Location on the lake is spectacular! Views are without match. The house is well maintained and within walking distance of hotel restaurants and cozy bistros to the north. We cooked a lot and were thankful for a very well equipped kitchen. Even included a crepe pan! Tim and Corina are gracious and caring hosts, even helping us plan travel strategies to local attractions and restaurants. Love this place. We have spent 3 weeks there in the last 2 years and will return in the future!

An amazing house in an amazing location

This house was everything & more! It read well on the website and we were not disappointed. Our only disappointment was we should have stayed longer.!

The owners Tim & Corina could not have been more helpful with very comprehensive information about the house, places to eat, places to shop, places to see, information on activities etc.

The house was very well equipped for our 2 week stay which included a well set up kitchen for some home cooking, comfortable sunbeds for the back yard.

The location is amazing! The lake is basically your backyard where we swam most days. There is a fabulous 4 km boardwalk out the back gate with lots of bars & restaurants. We discovered a great bar/restaurant called the Verandah which was a 10 minute walk towards Pianello. It is great for coffee & croissants in the morning and a great spot for a glass of wine in the evening.

I would recommend having a car do you can take full advantage of the area.

I would happily recommend this house. We will certainly be telling our friends in Australia about it.

Firstly we must say that the property does have fine views and a lakefront location as described.

Unfortunately it is also described as a "villa" - it is actually a semi detached apartment with overlooked grounds - there is no privacy. The bedrooms are particularly small, one being more realistically a cupboard under the stairs. The mini casa is like a converted garage with a toilet just separated by a curtain from the bed.

We were 2 persons and I think if the stated maximum of 7 guests were staying in the property they would find it most uncomfortable and crowded.

The general standard of fixtures and fittings is fairly poor - electrical sockets loose on the wall, cracked basin, detached toilet seat and kitchen rather tired.

Owner's Response: This review allows us to restate our transparent approach with all prospective guests, exactly to avoid any “inaccuracies,” a charge we firmly reject: We send all prospective guests our rental terms and conditions which clearly state "The house shares a common wall and is immediately adjacent to another vacation house . . . " Included is a map of the exterior of the property clearly showing property lines, gardens, neighboring gardens etc. Why this guest chose to ignore this information and our pictures on Owners Direct and our own website (please see link) is beyond us. Guests can enjoy PRIVACY from two large, covered terraces facing the lake and mountains, or relax on sun loungers on the grassy, protected lakefront yard (again, please see pictures). We have three main bedrooms and a FOURTH small room which contains the 7th bed, a crib, and windows – please see website description. We NEVER call that a bedroom. It is an extra room used only for a 7th person and/or an infant. The Minicasa is steps from the lake and has the largest of the 3 bedrooms. The bedroom is separated from the bathroom with a WALL, and a small curtain across the door (please see pictures). We have hosted over 1,500 guests in 10+ years of successful renting, all on Owners Direct, where we specialize in hosting LARGE 4+ person groups. The house fixtures and fittings are all detailed in our pictures and the kitchen features new ceramic cook surface, refrigerator and a well-equipped eat-in island. We respect the opinion of all guests who stay in our house, but we do not accept false statements in unverified reviews. Our guest book (see own website) is filled with years of great living, memories and emotions, and it is these wonderful moments that we invite you to experience at the Dreamers’ House !

Great stay

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Dreamer's House. The location was perfect for us and the 50 steps were NO deterrent, even for my wife with her bad knee and newish hip. There were 6 of us and it was a bit inconvenient to have one couple have to walk through one of the two double bedrooms for access to the house from the stand alone bedroom/bathroom. Since I had specified that we would be 2 couples and 2 singles, we were surprised that the three double rooms were made up and that the single room was not, but we rearranged the bedding and all went well. The house is great and we would certainly return. The water was great, cool but really great swimming, even in mid-Sept.

The 50 steps are a lot, but are also the thing that provides good separation of the house and the lakefront garden from the local road well above the property, which makes for all the peace and tranquility at the house and on our lakefront. Great that you were able to swim in mid-September ! Actually, there are two ways to reach the house from the minicasa (the stand alone bedroom/bathroom) without going through one of the bedrooms: one is by going through the cantina, and the other is by walking along a passage between the house and the minicasa. Both will take you to the rock garden and a stairway to the main door of the house. Thanks for the 5 stars and hope to see you again soon at the Dreamers' House !

Booking Notes:
50% of rental amount (euros or $) is due via bank transfer to confirm reservation and block calendar dates. The other 50% is due no later than 45 days prior to arrival. Full refund if cancellation is 45 or more days prior to arrival. No refund if cancellation is within the 45 days. A 350 Euro refundable security deposit is required and returned one week after departure.

Saturdays in Peak Season. Otherwise, flexible except on Sundays and Italian holidays. Departure time is 10:00am and key pickup time is between 3-7pm Mon-Fri with escort (after 7 without escort) and between 3-6pm Sat with escort (no escort after 6).

Notes on accommodation: The properties on the left and right (shared wall) of the house are vacation houses NOT rented by their owners. Therefore, the owner kindly requests that common courtesy is observed when these neighbours are present. Outside: Many Lake Como rental properties state it, but the Dreamers' House really IS right on the lakefront. In addition, you can actually swim or boat in the lake directly from the property, by using the private stairs leading directly from the lakefront garden into the lake. There are 300sqm of mature gardens with palm and specimen trees and flowering shrubs, perennials and annuals. The neighbours gardens are immediately adjoining these gardens, so the effect is a botanical paradise surrounding the property. Outdoor furniture, including a set of 6 sun chaise lounges, tables and stone picnic benches and chairs are located throughout the property. The property is entered through an electronic gate and includes a single, covered car parking space in the new carport. A buoy for boats floats 25 yards in front of the house on the lake and can be rented for an additional 100 euros/week. Boats can be rented from one of several services around the lake (please inquire). Utility Room: There is a storage room/floor with washing machine, dryer, ironing equipment and room to store guests own equipment, eg. bikes, boating equip., etc.. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bath towels and all bed linens included, one change per week provided. House is cleaned with each guest change, but can be hired for additional cleaning at 15 euro/hour. Other: New outdoor dining table and chairs on terrace for 6 person and sun loungers (4).
