Guestbook comments from the owner

"Well, after a week back in rainy England, Hope Farm seems so far away. We had a wonderful time there, the house was a wonderful place in so many ways it proved difficult to leave! Whilst staying there, we explored the region less than planned as the house, pool and immediate location were so delightful. We saw eagles, rabbits, patridges ad we loved the geckos. We did take the boat trip to Spain and went to see a movie in the open-air ciema in Tavira as part of the annual festival which was amazing. The house is beautiful - loved the nautical theme and a real home from home - everything we could possibly want and need. Thank you for letting us stay for the past two weeks, we would love to return one day" - Andy & Deborah

Rustique, personal countryhouse close to Tavira town, but wonderfully secluded

  • 5 of 5

This is not the Hilton, but hey, that's not what you expect when booking this house.

The house is a traditional old countryhouse a "Quinta" located on a hill 10 minutes drive from Tavira town and all the great restaurants, market and churches.

The area is beautiful, perfect for hiking, and the poolarea with the big round pool totally private with an outdoor shower, sunbeds and views of surroundings.

The house is kept in a traditional old style with lots of personal things showing the owners life at sea. Furniture, kitchen equipment etc. are old, but we really didn't miss anything and we did a lot of cooking ourselves. The beds are good.

Only thing missing was hot water in the kitchen, but there's an electric boiler or hot water in the bathroom.

Choose this house if you love nature, peace and countrystile - if you prefer the Hilton, go somewhere else - and prepare to pay much more.

The owner, Kenneth, is the nicest guy, do give him a call if you´re interested.

PS. The driveway to the house is dirttrack, and yes, your car will get dusty - it's 1,3 km drive or you can take a shortcut from the other end and it's only 700 meters. No big deal, really.

Beautiful authentic home in quit surroundings

  • 5 of 5

If you need a holiday in private and beautiful surroundings you have found the perfect spot. We where there in spring - its was so beautiful with flowers bluming and nice smell of lavender, orange flowers, rosemary and other smells of southern europe. In the morning and at night we could hear the nightingale, owls, frogs and cicadas sing. In day time you could see a rich birdlife as storks and even eagles. As the nearest neighbors are over 1,5 km away you can see a lot of stars, you must try lying in the swimmingpool at night and looking at the stars - it is absolutely amazing. Or having a nice barbeque on one of the many outside spots. At daytime you have a nice outside shower just my the pool. You are situated just about 10 minuttes from the beautiful old town of Tavira - if you go the other way you can go to the small moutains. The old but restored farmhouse is beautiful decorated with artwork and antiques inside and out. The kitchen have all the equipment you need for homecooking. But do not miss the nice Portugees kitchen while your there, the is a nice resturant in the nearby village of Prego. The Portugees wine is absolutely fantastic try the Vinho Verde, white wine with natural gas or some redwine my favourite district is Douro, you can get the wine in a range of very cheap to very expensive.

The cakes or also nice do not miss the one "pasteis de nata". We had such a wonderful time that we extended our stay another week, fortunately, the owner mr. Kenneth Sten was very fexible and kind to let us extend the stay without any trouble.

Owner's Response: WELL IT LOOKS LIKE MY DANISH GUESTS WERE OVERWHELMINGLY PLEASED WITH THERE THEY STAY AT HOPE FARM (QUINTA ESPERANZA ) They were really into the nature and wildlife, especially the different variety's of bird life as well as the constant blue sky's and the bright sunshine along with the inviting ( Blue Lagoon ) plunge pool, and i was told that after discovering our total privacy the need for swim suits was abandoned adding new dimensions to the naturalness of this privet location. They also loved the quaint villages scattered about the eastern Algarve and were amazed at the beauty of the ancient coastal town of Tavira, the jewel of the Algarve. The Danes original two-week stay was stretched out by another week as the thought of leaving this sun and nature to return to a cold and wet Danmark during its spell of nasty weather did not set well with them, so luckily the next week was available and they extended their Holliday. All and all they were great guests and well suited to our quiet and natural setting, and will be returning in the future, so many thanks to my lovely Danish family the Svenningsens, i am looking forward to their early return .

Total peace

  • 5 of 5

Well what can I say, I have stayed in several places that were advertised as peacefull and secluded but turned out to be far from it! this lovely restored farmhouse however was excactly as Kenneth described it both on the site and over the phone.from dawn until dusk all you heard or saw were birds and insects and maybe the odd pick up truck tending the orange groves. The house had everything you needed with loads of room and comfey chairs but maintaining the true rustic feel. every nook and cranny was filled with interesting boating bits and pieces and the woodburner is a work of art! the pool was just right in temp and size also crystal clear! it has taken a long while to find a place like this and is very reasonably priced indeed. once again many thanks Ken and Hans , and see you August 2015, cant wait!!

Owner's Response: Thank you Brian for your kind words ,the tranquil and peaceful location is the reason i purchased the farm over 20 years ago and also why i have stayed on here , There are not many places that offer the seclusion in nature we have here and still be only a few kilometers from beaches and the lovely town of Tavira. We are looking forward to seeing you on your next visit August 2015. Cheers till then Kenneth Gardner Sten
