The villa is situated in its own mature gardens and has a resident housekeeper living in a bungalow in the grounds. Situated half a mile outside the village of Santo Estevao towards the A22 on the road to Prego and some 35 minutes from Faro and 5km from Tavira. There is a large heated swimming pool with views of the sea. The villa has been built to a high standard and is fully equipped for large parties. Bedrooms are air-conditioned.

About the Owner

We are Barry and Joy Sharp and we live outside Canterbury in Kent. We have been retired for some years and have a large family. We decided to build in Portugal in the mid-80s as our family was then young and it was the ideal country to chose as we had spent some years in Braziland speak the language fluently.

We wanted a family home and so the pool is very child friendly but bigger than most allowing for swimming too.

The villa is built to a high standard, well furnished and euipped for our own use. We stay 4/5 times a year (usually to work on it!!). It is designed so 2 families can share- one upstairs and one down . The housekeeper Ana has been with us for 22 years!! We mainly let in the high season to cover costs but with a heated pool, air-con/heaters.

First Class Accomodation

With so many villas to choose from over a vast area, picking one for a tribe of 9 was a daunting task!

We narrowed it down to three, but electing for this one on the basis of the games room, large gardens and pool.

With four teenagers to keep amused, we were hoping this was the right choice; and I’ll mention now it was.

Yes you need a car to get around, but the beach is only a 5min drive to Beril, and the main town of Tavira the same.

Yes it is close to the toll motorway, but the traffic noise is not that bad, and it didn’t effect anyone’s sleep at all. These are the only two negatives I can offer, but can counter that with loads of positives:

1. The house itself is very spacious and offers everything you could wish for

2. The pool is fantastic, and very large. We had all nine of us in there and could have easily doubled that.

3. The outside areas are great for BBQ’s and just sitting out.

4. Ana the housekeeper, is worth her weight in gold. She does everything from gardening to cleaning the pool, emptying the rubbish, and offers any help you may need. We has the front of the washing machine break at 22:00 one evening, and she had a workman in and fixing it within 45mins!

5. The area is very quiet so no rowdy yobs singing till all hours.

The area around the villa is very pleasant.

Tavira, although a little small, offers a great number of places to eat, or great for an evening wander. We found an Aldi and Lidl which catered for all our shopping needs, and there’s always the more Portuguese hypermarket in the large shopping mall.

In all I can say that this was a fantastic place to stay for all of our party, and I can’t recommend this enough.

When chosing an area of the Algarve we travelled from one end to the other and decided on Santo Estevao as a centre because of its unspoilt charm and genuine Portuguese character. Inevitably it has changed much over the years but is still regularly profiled in TV homes abroad programmes as one of the best places in the world to buy. We built the villa ourselves to get a large family home and land and to avoid a complex. The Tavira area is so beautiful and unspoilt and the town is almost unique in the way it has been preserved. The villa is within a few minutes of beautiful beaches and dozens of good restaurante and bars.

Activity and Interests

Car: recommended

Coast/Beach:

The sea can be seen from the villa. Lovely sandy beaches are situated on the Tavira Island and Santa Lucia, both 10 minutes by car + boat/miniature railway. Other beaches at Manta Rota (20 mins car), Pria Verde (20 mins car) and Monte Gordo (30 mins car).

Travel:

Approx. 35 mins drive from Faro Airport and Faro town. 10 hour drive -Santander ferry. Lisbon - 3 hrs. Seville - 1 1/4 hrs.

Spain 30 mins.

Car is essential unless you want to stay in the villa full time and use the village facilities.

Distances:

Santo Estevao village - 10 mins walk (half a mile)

Tavira town centre approx. 4 miles.

Faro shopping/football stadium/town centre 30 mins.

Albufeira nightlife 40 min. drive.

Western Algarve golf courses 1 hr.

Monte Gordo nightlife & casino 30 mins.

Vilamoura golf/marina/casino 40 mins.

Further Details:

Santo Estevao village has 2 minimarkets/2 restaurants/2 bars. Chemist/hairdresser/boutique/cashpoint machine. Tavira town has all amenities in a beautiful riverside setting dating from Roman times. Within easy reach of the villa (10 mins drive) there are a large number of good restaurants and bars.

Changeover Day:
Flexible. If the villa is booked, arrival time is 4pm and vacation by 10am on date of leaving.

Notes on prices:
Prices shown are for the property per week in UK Pounds.
Discounts may be given for bookings of 2 weeks or more. A deposit cheque of £200 is required against damage etc. The cheque is not presented unless necessary. Please make all cheques payable to B J Sharp.

The property is within walking distance of the lovely village and a short easy drive to town or the breaches. The heated pool is unusually large and the property exceptionally good for just staying put as it has a very large patio area with loungers, changing house, outside showers, permanent bar bqs and an outside wet bar. Very safe for kids who can run around and wander over the land without fear. Having Ana on site offers more than might be imagined. Not only a permanent help and reference [point but much followed by our little visitors. She has some animals (which are kept away if unwanted) which the children love to watch, she maintains the house as wanted and the pool area is washed daily. We are also one of the few villas in the Algarve never to have been robbed in 20 years!
