Very well equipped property in stunning location.
We had a fantastic 10 days here. Property well located in village with an abundance of bars, small restaurants and a couple of shops with a selection of local provisions. Lots of maps and walking guides available which we found invaluable. Would highly recommend this property.
A lovely place to stay
We had a great time in this house - it had everything in it that we needed; everything was clean and well maintained. The owner Martyn was very helpful, sending us clear directions which we appreciated as we arrived in the dark. The pool and air con were particularly useful as it was very, very hot. We enjoyed sitting outside, under the umbrella. The village is charming and the house is well located for trips to Ronda, Seville or any of the wonderful white villages dotted around. The house is perfect for a small group of up to four - more than that would be difficult as the lounge and kitchen area is on the small side. For three of us it worked well. We thank Martyn for his kindness and care in his instructions on the house and his directions. It made our entry and use of the house stress free. We would recommend this house and would like to return in the future.
A lovely house where you can feel at home
Casa Limon was a nice house in a private and gated quiet complex. The house is very well equipped and the owners provided basic items so you can make a cup of tea when you arrive even if the shops are shut!
The village location means everything is close by, so there are bars and shops within easy walking distance, although it is a fairly quiet village there are a variety of places to eat. Plenty of tapas, and a really nice Italian restaurant.
We had a lovely week here, there is some great walking right on the doorstep. One day we walked to Ronda - a spectacular walk!
We spent a fantastic week in the comfortable, well equipped and furnished Casa de Limon, where we mixed walking with sightseeing. The arrangements were made speedy and efficiently. The property was clean and very well maintained. It had everything in it you needed. Martyn and Carole had provided those extras that make a stay easy such as a welcome pack, a range of condiments in the kitchen, spare batteries and bulbs and a selection of DVDs. We loved the friendly people in the village and the mini markets had enough choice for a meal in; for more choice we headed to the wholesale butcher in Benaojan.
The cottage has a range of walking route and sightseeing books. The 'Montejaque Circuit' walk was a highlight with beautiful views and abundant wildlife. The owner's advice to take the train from Utrera for our Seville visit was spot on. There was so much more to see and do that we will definitely come back another time, hopefully soon.
Casa de Limon
This was a lovely little casa in a gated community with its own pool. It had a lovely balcony and a patio with BBQ and loungers. Martyn, the owner, was extremely helpful providing a wealth of information and responding to queries promptly. The house is very well equipped with air-conditioning included.
The house was full of useful information about the village and surrounding area. Thanks to one of the recommendations we spent a wonderful Sunday afternoon at Bar La Cuesta indulging in tapas and wine. We also had an excellent meal in La Casita. Another good tip was when visiting Seville to drive to Utrera and take the train avoiding driving and parking problems. Seville is a must see city, absolutely stunning. The day we spent there was nowhere near long enough, so we shall return for a few days there later.
The village of Montejaque is a beautiful place. We enjoyed the square with its two bars serving tapas, where we could sit and watch local life and listen to the birds' evening chorus in the palm trees. There is plenty of activity, cycling, walking visiting local sights, caves etc. We liked to walk up the zig-zag path to the chapel at the top and then over the top to Benaojan. Ronda is another lovely town with a stunning gorge.
Montejaque holiday home
We spent a week at Casa De Limon and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was very well equipped with everything one would need for a self-catering holiday including books about the area and the local cuisine. We barbecued on the terrace most evenings, enjoying the view over the communal swimming pool and its well tended lawn and garden. In the mornings, the sunny balcony was a good place to enjoy our first cup of coffee of the day.
Montejaque has several tapas bars and small grocery shops, including a bakery, which catered for our daily essentials, and the beautiful town of Ronda was only a short car ride away when we wanted the bigger choice a large supermarket can offer. The village of Montejaque is surrounded by impressive mountain scenery and there are several lovely walks starting near the house.
We consider Casa De Limon a great base for anyone wishing to explore this area of natural beauty.
From the Owner
“We bought the house because we both like 'real' Spain, the 'great outdoors', and to be near places of interest. Easy access from Malaga, Seville, Jerez and Gibraltar airports was also important. Having Ronda just down the road is also a great benefit for when we want anything for the house and Carole likes all the shoe shops as well! It's a great place to wander around in the evening when the locals come out to parade. I visit once a year with my rock climbing partner and we enjoy climbing at the many quiet crags from 10 minutes to an hour or so away. Our two boys who are in their 20's also sometimes make it across for some climbing. When Carole and I visit we enjoy some great walks in the mountains and valleys. Our favourite time of year is May and June when the wild flowers are amazing.”

Montejaque couldn’t be in a better location if you’re wanting to escape the Costa crowds. It’s a charming, traditional Andalucian ‘pueblo blanco’ (white village) with some of the friendliest locals you’ll find anywhere in Spain. locally many leisure pursuits are available; walking, mountain biking, climbing, tennis, horse riding, bird watching. It’s set in the stunning mountainous scenery of the Serrania de Ronda and Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park with enormous potential for walking and a whole range of adventurous (and not so adventurous) outdoor activities. The nearby Caves at Piletta, where you can see early pre-historic cave paintings, are an absolute must – but don’t expect a slick guided tour and stylish gift shop. It’s much better than that! The village itself is a maze of narrow streets and there’s more than a few tapas bars and cafes to explore as well as some restaurants, this is a quiet, rural place – fast becoming a fashionable and slightly bohemian retreat for art and stressed Spaniards from the big cities. You won’t find too many English speaking people here, but the locals are always happy to welcome outsiders. You’ll probably spend quite some time in nearby Ronda. Although a busy tourist centre (and for good reason) Ronda is a wonderful place. Let it get under your skin. Here you’ll find restaurants aplenty, one of the oldest bull rings in Spain (well worth a look, even if you hate the idea of the ‘sport’) and Ronda’s main attraction, El Tajo – the enormous, stunning gorge. Linger on the Puente Neuvo and dare to look down into the gorge’s depths (trying not to think about the poor people who used to be thrown to their doom from where you’re stood). If you can drag yourself away from the snail’s pace village life of Montejaque or the buzzing atmosphere of Ronda, why not go on a day trip further afield, the magnificent cities of Granada or Seville. In fact, if you’ve got time, you could do both – arguably two of the most wonderful cities in Spain.

“We are only a couple of minutes from our village's main street which has several small shops selling pretty much all you need including good fresh produce. There is one hotel and quite a few bars offering tapas or a meal. We equipped the house to a good standard for our own enjoyment rather than as a basic holiday home. Air-con is important on evenings at the peak of summer, although we prefer to sleep with the window open if its not too hot. The pool is a real bonus. We like to spend the day out and about and get back for late afternoon for a couple of hours by the pool. Our lemon tree seems to fruit all year round and you are welcome to pick some for your gin and tonic! If you fancy a trip further afield there are trains to Cordoba and Granada or an easy drive to Jerez or Seville. We have installed wifi at the house for free use of our guests”
