About Clare Kenny

I am self employed and life in London can get quite hectic, so I love the chance to enjoy a different pace of life. The gorgeous countryside, local events and the relative quiet I find when I visit my cottage helps restore the batteries!

Clare Kenny purchased this cottage in 2002

Why Clare Kenny chose Limoux area

I bought my house because I was looking for a retreat somewhere, a place where I could unwind from hectic London life. The village is so pretty and the surrounding countryside so beautiful, I feel very lucky to have found it. There are so many things to do.There are numerous footpaths to explore, many a day can be spent hiking locally with a packed lunch! Also nearby are colourful markets, ancient Cathar sites not to mention the mysteries surrounding the church at Renne's le Chateau. In the summer months there are music events, village fêtes and film festivals to look out for. Unwinding and sampling the great local wines and produce while relaxing on the terrace is how I spend a lot of my time there! Exploring French life is great fun and the pace of life in the country is lovely.

What makes this cottage unique

The airport is only 50 minutes away and the Ryanair flight gets me to the house in the early afternoon. I sometimes get a treatment at the natural hot spring health spa in Rennes les Bains during my stay. They have a swimming pool which is filled with warm spring water and is a nice alternative to the local lakes and rivers - The hot spring actually pours out into the river and its healing properties can be enjoyed by all! The coast is an hour and a half's drive and makes a great day out. There are numerous books and films at the house and the quiet that descends as evening comes in is quite remarkable. You rarely see the night sky in all it's glory if you live in a busy city and spending a few hours on the terrace with a glass of wine looking at the stars is a lovely way to relax.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Really enjoyed our week here, it's a wonderful cottage in beautiful surroundings. Felt very at home, the kitchen is excellent and we spent the week eating a lot and drinking wine on the terrace.

Vicky and john -

A great week exploring a new area of France; the drive to Perypertuse through the stunningly beautiful Gorge de Galamus- WOW

Sitting on the terrace one evening I saw my first shooting star along with a whole array of stars, planets and even the milky way. It was so clear you felt you could reach out and touch it.

A lovely week

Lesley and Jo

Loved Alet-les-Bains quietly understated medieval village; Sunday market at Esperaza - don't miss it! Trip to Castel Negre paid great dividends. Thank you for the use of this lovely cottage which has a very comfy bed!

Comfortable cottage in a quiet village.

  • 5 of 5

We planned to tour France for one month, and decided to spend two weeks at the cottage. When we arrived, the cottage was clean and tidy and everything that we could possibly need was there.

We enjoyed many breakfasts and evenings sitting on the sun terrace admiring the surrounding countryside and catching the sun.

The cottage was situated in a superb location and it allowed us to visit lots of fantastic places. The roads were quiet which allowed us several long bike rides and walks through the countryside.

All in all a fantastic place to stay and an amazing holiday.

Lovely experience with a terrace and a view to die for

  • 5 of 5

Cosy property, well appointed and in a beautiful little village. Extremely quiet. When the hot water didn't work an English speaking plumber was there within a very short time and as these things happen from time to time Clare clearly has an effective network of contacts to get things sorted and quick. We have been in other places where this doesn't happen! We would love to return.

A real home away from home

  • 5 of 5

Clare's cottage is a fabulous spot to while away a week! The house itself is full of character; quirky but very comfortable. It's obviously a much-loved second home, rather than simply a holiday rental. The roof terrace is a great place to have breakfast, or watch the sunset, or just do nothing at all. The village is quiet, and a great centre for exploring locally or further afield. We had a lovely week - thank you Clare.

beautiful peaceful cottage

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is in a lovely rural village and is really well equipped and very welcoming. It is in a gorgeous part of France and is close to rivers and lots of walks. We loved it. The best part was sitting on the terrace and looking at the stars whilst drinking a local excellent wine. I couldn't reccommend this property more highly.

Peaceful, character cottage

  • 5 of 5

This was everything we had hoped for. Beautiful scenery, wildlife and a very pretty village. The cottage was very well equipped and it was easy just to sit on the balcony all day listening to the bird song and looking at the hills or stars. A complete break from the rat race - we will return.

Lovely cottage in beautiful countryside

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a wonderful week in Clare's cottage in Sougraigne. The cottage itself is very well equipped with a lovely rustic cottage ambience and felt very cosy. Very nicely decorated throughout.

We particularly enjoyed sitting on the terrace in the evenings, watching the sun go down over the mountains, while the swifts flew overhead. With a glass of red wine and some fantastic local food, it was just perfect. The village itself is charming and the surrounding countryside is beautiful and there are so many wonderful places to visit within easy distance. If you fancy a slightly longer trip, Andorra is just 2 hours away. We would certainly recommend this cottage. We have great memories of our holiday in Sougraigne and would love to return one day.
