Cottage in Sougraigne, Languedoc - Peaceful Location, Horse Riding And Good Walking Near The Village
Lovely stone cottage in foothills of Pyrenees, beautiful location in small village. The hot springs treatment center at Rennes-les-Bains, a local riding school, historic cathar castles and the famous church at Rennes-le-Chateau are all nearby. The house has a lovely living area with beamed ceiling and open chimney and great views from the large, sunny roof terrace. The large double bedroom accesses the terrace.

Lovely experience with a terrace and a view to die for
I am very lucky to have a 'swat team' of friendly proffessionals who can always get things sorted out if needed! very glad you felt looked after.
About the Owner
I am self employed and life in London can get quite hectic, so I love the chance to enjoy a different pace of life. The gorgeous countryside, local events and the relative quiet I find when I visit my cottage helps restore the batteries!

Really enjoyed our week here, it's a wonderful cottage in beautiful surroundings. Felt very at home, the kitchen is excellent and we spent the week eating a lot and drinking wine on the terrace.

A great week exploring a new area of France; the drive to Perypertuse through the stunningly beautiful Gorge de Galamus- WOW
Sitting on the terrace one evening I saw my first shooting star along with a whole array of stars, planets and even the milky way. It was so clear you felt you could reach out and touch it.
A lovely week

Lovely experience with a terrace and a view to die for
Cosy property, well appointed and in a beautiful little village. Extremely quiet. When the hot water didn't work an English speaking plumber was there within a very short time and as these things happen from time to time Clare clearly has an effective network of contacts to get things sorted and quick. We have been in other places where this doesn't happen! We would love to return.
A real home away from home
Clare's cottage is a fabulous spot to while away a week! The house itself is full of character; quirky but very comfortable. It's obviously a much-loved second home, rather than simply a holiday rental. The roof terrace is a great place to have breakfast, or watch the sunset, or just do nothing at all. The village is quiet, and a great centre for exploring locally or further afield. We had a lovely week - thank you Clare.
beautiful peaceful cottage
This cottage is in a lovely rural village and is really well equipped and very welcoming. It is in a gorgeous part of France and is close to rivers and lots of walks. We loved it. The best part was sitting on the terrace and looking at the stars whilst drinking a local excellent wine. I couldn't reccommend this property more highly.
Peaceful, character cottage
This was everything we had hoped for. Beautiful scenery, wildlife and a very pretty village. The cottage was very well equipped and it was easy just to sit on the balcony all day listening to the bird song and looking at the hills or stars. A complete break from the rat race - we will return.
Lovely cottage in beautiful countryside
We enjoyed a wonderful week in Clare's cottage in Sougraigne. The cottage itself is very well equipped with a lovely rustic cottage ambience and felt very cosy. Very nicely decorated throughout.
We particularly enjoyed sitting on the terrace in the evenings, watching the sun go down over the mountains, while the swifts flew overhead. With a glass of red wine and some fantastic local food, it was just perfect. The village itself is charming and the surrounding countryside is beautiful and there are so many wonderful places to visit within easy distance. If you fancy a slightly longer trip, Andorra is just 2 hours away. We would certainly recommend this cottage. We have great memories of our holiday in Sougraigne and would love to return one day.
A wonderful time
I can't recommend this holiday home enough! We had a wonderful time in Sougraigne - it's been our favourite holiday so far and we'd love to go back one day. The cottage is perfect and the scenery is stunning - we spent many a happy evening on the terrace watching the sun go down. We spent our days walking, visiting markets and castles, and swimming in rivers - idyllic! Our highlight was eating at L'Ecluse au Soleil in the village - delicious food, not to be missed!

“I bought my house because I was looking for a retreat somewhere, a place where I could unwind from hectic London life. The village is so pretty and the surrounding countryside so beautiful, I feel very lucky to have found it. There are so many things to do.There are numerous footpaths to explore, many a day can be spent hiking locally with a packed lunch! Also nearby are colourful markets, ancient Cathar sites not to mention the mysteries surrounding the church at Renne's le Chateau. In the summer months there are music events, village fêtes and film festivals to look out for. Unwinding and sampling the great local wines and produce while relaxing on the terrace is how I spend a lot of my time there! Exploring French life is great fun and the pace of life in the country is lovely.”

Arque lake is 15mins drive for bathing and picnics, also swimming holes in rivers are within walking distance and very popular in the summer months.
The coast is approximately an hour and a half drive. This will get you to the coastal stretch between Perpignan and Narbonne where many good beaches, restaurants and local markets can be found. A drive south of Perpignan through the pretty costal fishing villages heading towards the spanish border is also a lovely and interesting drive.
The nearest airport is Carcassonne (50 mins drive) and then Perpignon 1 1/2 hours.
Toulouse airport is 2 hours drive.
A car is essential in the area as there is no public transport available.
The nearest village is Rennes-les-bains, 5 mins by car, where there is a hot springs treatment center and outdoor heated swimming pool. There is a bar and a couple of restaurants.
Couiza, Rennes-le-chateau,Quillan,Esperaza and Limoux are all within 15-30 mins by car and have their own sights, market days restaurants, bars, shopping, nightspots etc.

The nearest shops, restaurants and bars are in Rennes-les-Bains and Couiza, there's a cash machine at the post office in Cuiza.
There is a kundalina practitioner in the village just opposite the house who takes classes every monday and thursday at €8 per class (aprox 1 and a half hours)
There are mobile shops (bread, patisserie, charcouterie) that come to the village on specific days (details at the house). The nearest supermarket is just outside Couiza (15 mins drive). There are many excellent wine co-ops in the area and an organic wine producer can be found on the road to Limoux (20 mins drive). Carcassonne is the nearest city. “The airport is only 50 minutes away and the Ryanair flight gets me to the house in the early afternoon. I sometimes get a treatment at the natural hot spring health spa in Rennes les Bains during my stay. They have a swimming pool which is filled with warm spring water and is a nice alternative to the local lakes and rivers - The hot spring actually pours out into the river and its healing properties can be enjoyed by all! The coast is an hour and a half's drive and makes a great day out. There are numerous books and films at the house and the quiet that descends as evening comes in is quite remarkable. You rarely see the night sky in all it's glory if you live in a busy city and spending a few hours on the terrace with a glass of wine looking at the stars is a lovely way to relax.”
