Barinak is a spacious, luxury villa, full of character, which is maintained to the highest standards. It is situated in a quieter area of Kalkan. The 3 large, south-facing bedrooms are all en-suite and have access to one of two verandas with fabulous views. The master suite has a luxury, full bathroom. The roof terrace has a shady Ottoman area with its own mini-kitchen. The villa is air-conditioned throughout and insect screens are fitted to windows and doors. High-end kitchen. Wireless internet. There is a sun trap patio with plants and trees, dining area with ceiling fan, as well as sun loungers and parasols situated around the private pool. The villa is sited at the front of a small private development of villas and apartments. Its slightly elevated position allows fabulous views of 2 bays and surrounding hills.

Why Susan Scarre chose Lycian & Turquoise Coast

We thought this spot had the best of both worlds, being quiet, yet close enough to walk into the centre. The views, particularly from the upper terraces, are sublime. You can see both bays from the villa. It's easy to find, as it's just off the Kalamar Road and most of the taxi drivers know the Saneil complex. A member of staff is usually in the office to assist guests, plus there is free WiFi.

What makes this villa unique

We think this property has just about everything! All the bedrooms are sea-facing, with direct access onto 1 of 2 terraces. Sometimes eating outside can get a bit hot, so there is an outdoor ceiling fan to keep you cool. On the roof terrace there is a secluded Ottoman area with outdoor mini kitchen, where you can enjoy spectacular views whilst sipping a cocktail and reclining on soft cushions. And having a water cooler & ice machine on tap in the kitchen is a real luxury!

Our third, and definitely not last stay at beautiful Villa Barinak. It is an outstanding villa in a stunning location. We have had a few villa holidays and Villa Barinak is our undisputed favourite.

We had a fantastic time staying there. It is covered with flowers and the garden area is very pretty. The villa is appointed luxuriously with everything we could ever have needed and more besides. It’s like home but better.There are beautiful views from the balcony and the stunning Ottoman seating area on the rooftop.

The villa is well- maintained and very clean, with daily maid service from two friendly ladies. The pool is also very clean, and is maintained daily.

We noticed new parasols and other bits this year. It is obvious that the owner takes pride in getting everything just right.

The agent, Susan is very helpful and friendly. She responds very quickly to any communications.

The villa is 20 minutes stroll down to the beautiful town centre with its numerous rooftop restaurants and pretty harbour. It takes a bit longer to walk back due to the upwards incline but we felt we needed the walk after eating the delicious food on offer. Taxis are plentiful and reasonably priced. There is a shop just 5 minutes walk down the road called Can Can supermarket. They stock almost everything you need, and are really friendly. They will happily deliver your shopping. There is a fishmonger (he keeps moving but he’s further up the main road this year) and a couple of butcher shops in the town so we had everything we needed for a barbecue now and then, using the very swish Weber BBQ. Also a friendly greengrocer with fresh vegetables at a ridiculously low price.

The shop keepers and restaurateurs in Kalkan remembered us from previous years, which was really nice.

Three really nice things to do if you are staying in Kalkan and can bear to tear yourself away from the villa:

1. A boat trip round the islands with stop offs for swimming and a nice lunch- great value and very relaxing

2. Get the dolmus to Kaş and walk up the beautiful flower filled cobbled road and take lots of photos of the houses and restaurants with bougainvillea covered balconies and pomegranate trees. The shops are good too.

3. Go to Villa Mahal Beach club. Not suitable for little children due to the drops into the sea BUT you will have a pretty area all to yourself, shaded by parasols and olive trees. A lovely (if slightly pricy) restaurant on site, and the beautiful turquoise sea to swim I, accessible

A pretty pebble beach near the harbour is a 15 min walk away. Super 'beach clubs' which have been built into the rocks are a 5 minute drive away, with free transport. They have loungers, parasols, showers & snack bar, & direct access into the clear, clean waters. Water sports are also available. Kaputas' sandy beach is sited at the bottom of a gorge and is a short drive or boat ride from Kalkan. The acclaimed Patara beach is 18km long and is about 15 minutes away by car.


Dalaman airport is 90 mins from Kalkan. Car hire is not essential as the villa is within walking distance to Kalkan's centre, plus taxi fares are reasonable and public transport is good. Many tourist sites can be accessed by dolmus and numerous excursions depart from Kalkan by coach or boat. If, however you desire the freedom to come and go where you please, then car hire is available in Kalkan at reasonable rates.

Kas: 30 min drive

Kaputas beach: 10 min drive

Fethiye: 1 hour

Dalyan Delta: 1 3/4 hours

Further Details:

There is a small food shop a 2-min walk down the road for all necessary provisions, with larger supermarkets in the centre of Kalkan. Some offer free delivery service. The banks and post office will change travellers cheques and the banks have ATMs dispensing Turkish Lire and Euros. Sterling is a welcome currency in many shops and restaurants. There are over 100 small restaurants serving an eclectic mix of dishes, including vegetarian. Many have roof terraces with spectacular views. Food is freshly prepared and several establishments offer live music, including classical, jazz and traditional Turkish. Water activities such as scuba diving, jet skis and water skiing are available in Kalkan. There is a large weekly market where you haggle for the best price for goods such as spices, leather, jewellery, linens and backgammon sets, as well as fresh produce. Kalkan also has a good selection of shops, selling everything from painted china to DVDs. Places to visit and activities include Patara, home of St Nicholas (Father Christmas); Dalyan Delta for mud baths, a trip down the river where they filmed The African Queen and to see the ancient rock tombs; all-day canoe trip down Xanthos River; jeep safari into the mountains; all-day boat trip to see the Sunken City and sea turtles.

Magical stay in beautiful Kalkan

We stayed in the villa for a week, and had a really lovely time. The villa itself is both beautiful and practical. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the kitchen is well equipped, and the pool and terrace are exactly what you would want from a holiday villa. We particularly liked the roof terrace, which provides magical views of the surrounding area and is a very pleasant place to enjoy a relaxing drink after a tough day of sunbathing! The flowers in the garden are delightful too. The location is secluded, which is ideal as the town is pretty lively, but is only short ten minute walk away. Kalkan itself is a bustling little place, with a nice mix of restaurants, shops, and bars, and has some nice 'beach clubs' that are a pleasant way to pass the day- Yali was our favourite, and is a bit more upmarket than the rest. I would thoroughly recommend this villa, and Kalkan- we can't wait to go back.

best views over Kalkan

This is our 4th trip to this villa and our 6th to Kalkan and I can recommend Villa Barinak without hesitation. We tried villas closer to the old town but they are more cramped together and not so well equipped. If we were feeling too well fed from the many excellent restaurants in the town we hailed a taxi and for less than £2 they dropped us at the door.

Susan replied to all our enquiries very promptly and kindly.

As a group we felt we had a well rested and fun time and thinking about returning next year !

A 20% non-refundable deposit is required to secure booking, with balance payable no later than 8 weeks prior to departure. Prices are for renting the villa per week and do not include flights, travel insurance, transfers or car hire (although car hire and transfers can be arranged upon request and paid locally). A refundable security deposit of £200 is required.

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is normally Monday but we are flexible. Arrival after 2.30pm and Departure prior to 11am, unless otherwise agreed.
