Spectacular Mountain Villa with Private, Modern Pool

Updated: 06-Oct-2016
Villa nr Turre, Mojacar, Costa Almeria- Blissfully peaceful ,panoramic views but near beache

Domed, Moorish-style villa in the exclusive Siera Cabrera mountain 'village' with 3 restaurants/bars, tennis and horse-riding in Spain's warmest, driest region. Stunning views 'to die for', yet just a short drive to the beach and nearest golf course. Ten minutes drive to bustling Turre with shops and restaurants, five minutes more to the whitewashed village of Mojacar and its nearby beaches. The stunning Cabo de Gata national park and its many secluded beaches is easily reached. Ideal 'get away from it all' location, within very easy reach of restaurants, beautiful small towns and beaches etc: the best of both worlds in one location.

About the Owner

My wife and I, who live in London, bought the villa in the early 2000s and updated it and installed a chlorine-free swimming pool.

We are both writers and use the tranquility of the house to work on occasions, if we can force ourselves! But when work is over, we are just minutes from the mountain's excellent restaurants or a short, enchanting drive to the many pleasures of the beach and coastline or the inland delights of this part of Andalucia. It is not the crowded Spain of 'the Costas', but it has more than enough of interest to please all ages.

We try and visit the villa as often as possible, but it is never often enough, although our family enjoy making their own visits.

Take me Up to the Paradise Villa

  • 4 of 5

Spent two weeks here, been tot he area before and seen the Sierra Cabrera from many angles. To stay up in them was fantastic and in such a fantastic house. Views are remarkable, walks from the door up the road to the hills, or a short drive to spectacular ramblas. Do that in the morning and then laze by the pool, saw wild boar, ibex, eagles and bats. The house is excellent, air conditioning great for night but the house is cool enough in the day witht he breezes flowing through. Views to the west give the impression of flying. John was great ot deal with via email, everything went very smoothly. We'll be back!!

A superb villa with unbelievable views

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful week in this villa. Set high on the mountain above Cabrera, the views are stunning. There are three patios facing different directions, so the sun or shade can be found at any time of the day. The scent of blossom on the seaward-facing patio in the evening is quite intoxicating, and the pool area is nicely secluded.

The house was clean and had all facilities. The air conditioning in all three bedrooms was very effective, needing to be turned on only when needed. There were books available to read, and a variety of CDs to play. A number of TV channels were available, as were a pair of binoculars that we used frequently to check out distant things.

The listing description was accurate, as were the directions to the property provided by the owner. We tended to go down to Mojacar playa in the mornings, stopping off for a couple of drinks and tapas at the Aku Aku beach bar (highly recommended) before returning to the villa for lunch and an afternoon by the pool.

We ate out some evenings, in Mojacar, Turre and at Los Pastores in Cabrera, all of which were within easy driving distance.

We would highly recommend this villa to friends, and will certainly be making a return visit ourselves.

From the Owner

As well as being in the warmest part of mainland Europe, we fell in love with the area. It combines the serenity of an 'away from it all' home whilst having all the necessary shopping and recreational amenities within 10 minutes drive. Another 5 minutes and you are at the beach. The coves and beaches of the Cabo De Gata national park are nearby within a short drive: marvellous secluded spots that you thought had vanished from Spain forever.

Activity and Interests

Car: necessary

Special interest holidays:

The wonderful Sierra Cabrera mountain range - with its wild boar and wide variety of native and migrating birds - is a relaxing holiday area for walkers. Rambling walks can be started from the house itself.

The nearby Cabo de Gata has extensive cliff-top walks and secluded coves and beaches. Its famous salt-beds are a haven for birds. The entire area is a birdwatcher's delight.

The wide, sandy beaches of Mojacar, Vera and Garrucha are 15-20 minutes drive away. There is a large naturist beach at the northern end of Vera Playa too. Cabo de Gata, and its charming villages of Agua Amarga and the larger, busier San Jose, is 40 minutes away on the M-way or beautiful coastal route. There are many large beaches but also numerous isolated coves (some naturist-friendly), all within thirty minute's drive or less from the villa.

Almeria (55 minutes).

Murcia (1 hour 30 minutes).

Alicante (2 hours) Granada (Two and a half to three hours).

Car hire, or use of car, is essential.

Turre is 10 minutes drive, Mojacar 15, Vera and Vera Playa (Beach), with its Aqua Park, are 20 minutes away. The mountain village of Nijar, famous for its colourful pottery and rugs, is 30 minutes away. Granada is 2 1/2 to 3 hours. The Tabernas desert - where countless movies have been filmed - and its two Wild West Theme Parks is under an hour away.

Further Details:

Cabrera Village has an excellent Italian restaurant/bar and an elegant Moroccan/Spanish restaurant too. There is also a friendly tapas bar/restaurant in the daytime. All are within 10 minutes walk downhill from the villa (longer going back up!). Horse-riding and tennis are also available. Turre has banks, multi-language cash-points, supermarkets, butchers, fishmongers and a wide range of bars and restaurants. Mojacar is a fabulous Arab 'white village' and the beaches of Mojacar and Vera Playa have every facility of bustling resorts.

From the Owner

The villa has a staggering view inland, to the West, and we often dine on the balcony in the evening enjoying the beautiful sunsets. The quiet of the mountain is wonderfully calming, but the house, whilst being away from it all, is by no means remote and access to restaurants and, in the large village of Turre (pop 4,000) at the foot of the mountain about ten minutes' drive away, all amenities are available. The beaches are quiet for Spain and there is a large naturist beach at Vera Playa plus many intimate coves along the coastline for nude or 'textile' bathing.
