Lovely peaceful rural setting.
We had a great time in the spacious Ecurie. We were a family of 4 but there were 2 more beds. The place stayed nice and cool during the wonderful sunny days. A good sized living area gave us plenty of family time while we cooked/read/drank local red wine. The pool enjoyed plenty of sunshine during the day which we used a lot.
Steve was a great host and was helpful with suggestions for days out and local restaurants. If you want a quiet peaceful place to stay this is it.
The surrounding countryside and roads are amazing with the cutest villages and views of the distant mountains. 30 minutes drive and we were in Carcassonne. 40 minutes and we were on the beach. 10 minutes away was Montolieu with its many book shops and tiny little alley-way streets. Saissac has an amazing castle (part ruins/restored). We only saw another 3-4 people during our visit. Outstanding views across the valley, well worth the entry fee alone.
Some cracking restaurants close by included The Hungry Fox and Auberge de Pantouquet.
Thanks Steve for a brilliant holiday.
Perfect French holiday!
Brilliant place for a holiday, Ecurie was really nice and spacious, well equipped and ideal for us. The garden is huge and lovely for our children to play and meet other friends, and good for scottie our dog too! The pool is fab, was a little fresh first thing in the morning! The local bar 620 was really good and we had amazing BBQ steak at the other restaurant Pantouquet just down the river. Highly recommended, we are going back in Aug this year
A lovely quiet retreat
A lovely country retreat in a quiet valley location with the owner living on site all year.
An ideal location for visiting all the sights in the area - very close to Carcassonne with some great wine areas to explore.
A nice large swimming pool - even with the water a little on the cool side so early in the year.
The local village has a reasonable bar/restaurant used by all the locals. There is also a couple of tennis courts in the village.
We had a lovely holiday the peace and tranquillity of location, added to the great accommodation made for a good and much needed holiday.
The owner was more than happy spending time with us to share his wealth of local knowledge, from visiting good places through to great restaurants. The pool was a welcome retreat after a day of exploration.
The accommodation is traditional with everything you need in the kitchen. Its clean and very functional. Perfect arrangement for outdoor eating; sitting by the water with a glass of wine, delicious local food and a comfy bed made our stay complete. We will be back and may even take our parents next time...
My family and I enjoyed a wonderful 2-week stay at Clement, in Fontiers Cabardes, France. The accommodation was spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated and the facilities on site were superb: perfectly maintained pool, football pitch which our sons loved, a delightful stream flowing through the grounds, bbq facilities, and our charming host did everything he could to make our stay comfortable. We took full advantage of the tennis courts in the village, the local shop was well stocked, a very friendly bar which often held open-[mic nights and, of course, Carcassonne, a fascinating town to visit. We have recommended Clement to our friends and shall be returning this summer for another fine holiday.
2 weeks of relaxation and tranquility
I really have to share my experiences of this holiday location. I was looking for somewhere that I could go with the kids that would be a complete break from the normal routine, but that was still within easy reach. This was the perfect location. A 90 minute flight to Toulouse and we were en route through the beautiful villages in the South of France. Other guests had flown into Carcassone which is even closer.
The accommodation was spotless and the owners, who live on site, could not have been more welcoming and helpful. We didn’t need their help at any stage but it was great to know they were close by if needed.
The kids had an absolute ball. For them the highlights were making friends with fellow guests, playing around the pool and going for ‘adventures’ in the local forests and villages, and even swimming in local lakes. For the grown ups there is a small town within a 10 minute walk with a bar that has live music and good food. The region has a rich history and it was great fun to just take off and ‘explore’ – every village had something to offer. Carcassone itself is very close by and full of history and culture.
I can’t recommend this location enough – if you need your batteries re-charged this is the place to go.

Activity and Interests
75 minutes from Narbonne Plage.
Carcassonne airport 25 minutes, Toulouse airport 75 minutes.
1km from pretty village with grocery and lively bar/restaurant.
There is plenty to see and do in region around Carcassonne.
There are numerous freshwater lakes for swimming as well as wonderful forest walks, running, cycling and mountain biking opportunities. There are mountains, rivers, trout streams and lakes, ancient cities, towns, villages, thermal springs, abbeys, and cathedrals, châteaux and castles, notably the famous mountain fortresses popularly known as Cathar castles.
The region is famous for its wine and vineyards, bustling markets, festivals and live entertainment, including the magnificent fireworks display in Carcassonne on 14th July, Bastille Day.
The Carcassonne Festival always features
great bands, this year featuring Sting, Johnny Hallyday
as well a host of other rock, pop and classical concerts.
We are not too far away from Mediterranean beaches.
The sea beaches of Languedoc Roussillon tend to be
larger and sandier than Provence's pebbly equivalents,
and some stretch for miles along the coastline . If you get off the beaten track, some of Languedoc's beaches are amongst the most beautiful in the South of France.
Narbonne Plage is a huge sandy beach, and only 1 hour away. La Franqui and Leucate are two of Languedoc's beaches that are regarded as 'excellent'. Part of La Franqui's beach is double-sided - with the sea on one side and the etang (inland lake) on the other. Leucate has two beaches - one larger one that feels like a southern Californian or Australian beach town, and a more remote, thin strip of beach bordered by rocks. Another delightful beach is Argèles - Languedoc's most famous beach - which at its northern end is truly beautiful,
with its stunning views of the Pyrenees. There are thermal springs and spas, grottos and caves, and reminders of the Languedoc's long and rich history, and everywhere reminders of the the Cathars and the Papal Crusade against them.
