Situated north of St Savinien built on the Charente River. This is an ideal location for exploring the region where you will find the wonderful beaches, the islands which are easily accessible by spectacular viaducts or by boat. The region also has a wealth of historical sights to enjoy. La Mallete is a beautifully restored Charentais farmhouse set within a walled garden in a great location. It is built from local sandstone which is exposed internally as well as externally, which together with oak beams and large open fireplaces produces a wonderful ambience. All bedrooms are nicely furnished and have pleasant views. The house has a private patio with large table and 12 chairs, external barbecue, a beautiful swimming pool.
We have been coming to France for over 30 years. We have camped , caravanned and rented houses around this area of France.
The house was purchased after a family holiday to Cyprus when our children insisted 'its got to be France again next year' so here we are.
My photo is a wonderful day out at Puy de Fou with our children and grandchildren.
Rose Brown purchased this cottage in 1995
We love the house at La Malette with its wonderful charm.
The location is perfect. You can just cross the street for a lovely walk of cycle ride. The light is wonderful for any budding artists or photographers and plenty of great scenery to paint or photograph.
St Savinien is a most picturesque town or the River Charente where you can find little cobbled streets for an interesting walk.
The River Charente winds through the town and you have access to boats ,canoes or kayaks to hire.
We fell in love with the house because of the size of the house and the freedom it gave us. Plenty of rooms to investigate with no-one getting in each others way.
This property can be rented along with the cottage behind for up to 16 people. See ref 6965020
Thank you both for your kind hospitality during our stay. We both really enjoyed our visit and the beautiful weather was a real treat. The cottage is in a beautiful location- private, sunny and peaceful- a real haven!
Thank you again - we will be updating you on our house purchase when we have news.
We were warmly welcomed by generous hosts Rose and Jim to their character-filled, beautiful cottage for our two week stay. The property was a real 'home away from home' with a fully equipped kitchen. We were surprised, and very grateful to find our favourite chilled drinks in the fridge and an abundance of tea and coffee :) Our nine year old twins loved their rooms.... no arguments, only excitement as our son gravitated towards the room with bunk beds and our daughter cosied up in the twin bed bedroom. They both commented on how 'posh' the master bedroom was with it's beautiful furniture. We found the showeroom, as the rest of the cottage, fresh and clean with a stack of fluffy white large towels in the linen cupboard. The large, cool living spaces had the most comfortable sofas ever! I could have quite easily snuggled up with a good book all day were it not for my family keen to embrace the local culture and explore the many stunning beaches. Our children took advantage of the stock of books and games while we packed for the beach everyday. So refreshing for them not to be glued to a big screen. There were some travel plug provided in the cottage and also some of the power sockets were 3 pin (for uk plugs) which we found very useful. Other useful features... the iron, ironing board and large extension lead (3 pin) under the stairs, the hairdryer in the master bedroom and the cans of fly spray. We didn't get a chance to go on a bike ride but my husband was pleasantly surprised at the array of bikes and handy tools in the shed. The outside space was equally impressive... cooking area, loungers, table and chairs and joint access to the pool with the larger house
