Farmhouse in St. Savinien, Near St.Jean de Angely, Charente Maritime, France - Peaceful Location In Hamlet 5mins Drive From St. Savinien, Village 5 Minutes Walk Away For Bakers

Situated north of St Savinien built on the Charente River. This is an ideal location for exploring the region where you will find the wonderful beaches, the islands which are easily accessible by spectacular viaducts or by boat. The region also has a wealth of historical sights to enjoy. La Mallete is a beautifully restored Charentais farmhouse set within a walled garden in a great location. It is built from local sandstone which is exposed internally as well as externally, which together with oak beams and large open fireplaces produces a wonderful ambience. All bedrooms are nicely furnished and have pleasant views. The house has a private patio with large table and 12 chairs, external barbecue, a beautiful swimming pool.

About Rose Brown

We have been coming to France for over 30 years. We have camped , caravanned and rented houses around this area of France.

The house was purchased after a family holiday to Cyprus when our children insisted 'its got to be France again next year' so here we are.

My photo is a wonderful day out at Puy de Fou with our children and grandchildren.

Why Rose Brown chose Saint-Jean-d'Angely area

We love the house at La Malette with its wonderful charm.

The location is perfect. You can just cross the street for a lovely walk of cycle ride. The light is wonderful for any budding artists or photographers and plenty of great scenery to paint or photograph.

St Savinien is a most picturesque town or the River Charente where you can find little cobbled streets for an interesting walk.

The River Charente winds through the town and you have access to boats ,canoes or kayaks to hire.

What makes this house unique

We fell in love with the house because of the size of the house and the freedom it gave us. Plenty of rooms to investigate with no-one getting in each others way.

This house which sleeps 10 comfortably has a cottage behind which can be seen on Ref 6965020. The cottage is rented separately and can be made available for larger parties who wish to accommodate 10-16 people. Notes on accommodation: There will be a welcome pack of wine, bread etc to greet you. Outside: The house has a private patio/garden area with BBQ and garden furniture. The pool is 11x5 mtrs and has a paddling area for toddlers. There are sun loungers and chairs around the pool. The garden is well landscaped to give ample space for sunbathing.

Traditional Farmhouse& Great Location to Explore

I have stayed in both of these properties over the years and just love them both. The farmhouse is ideal if you have a large family / large group or would suit two families holidaying together. And the cottage is ideal for family or couple. Situated in the countryside away from hustle and busle but so much to explore in the area there's something for everyone. From beautiful beaches, islands, old towns & villages with historical attractions your spoilt for choice. Whist the swimming pool is shared I found we usually had it to ourselves and when we did occasionaly share if was great to chat to the other family and share knowledge and experience of places to visit in the area. Jim & Rose the owners are very familiar with the region and are on hand locally or just a phone call away to give recommendations if needed which can be very reassuring if it's your first visit to France or this area. Looking forward to going back to St Savinien revisit some favourite spots and explore some more! Thanks Jim & Rose and hope to see you soon.

Fabulously relaxing again

For our 3rd year in a row we had a fantastic holiday. Cottage was great, clean and well looked after and excellently equipped, and the peace and tranquility relaxing by the pool or on the courtyard were just what we needed. Rose and Kim are excellent hosts, ensuring everything was ok during our stay, and the welcome pack was great. As always we will rave about the cottage and rose and Jim. Truly fantastic Holiday!

We had a fantastic holiday in this beautiful farmhouse. Very traditional with gorgeous features. The amenities were great and the kitchen was like home from home, stocked with all the crockery, glassware etc we could need. It is such a picturesque location - so peaceful and felt like a real taste of France. It’s our second year in a row at the farmhouse and we still found loads of stuff to do in the area. The owners were super helpful with loads of suggestions on the best beaches (of which there are plenty) and local towns to visit which are steeped in history and well worth a visit. We had a truly fantastic holiday with a great mix of long lunches and lazy afternoons alongside exploring what the area has to offer – We loved it and will definitely be back for a third visit!

Brilliant Holiday

We stayed at La Mallette last August and had a superb holiday. We were a group of two families which included 5 children ranging from 2 years to 6 years. There were enough bedrooms to accommodate all the different sleeping arrangements. The fridge was well stocked upon arrival and as we arrived quite late in the evening this was very welcome as we snacked on the goodies on our first evening.

Jim and Rose met us at the accommodation and were never very far away if we needed anything. They know the area so well their recommendations were invaluable and they even booked us a few restaurants as their french is excellent.

The pool is great and on the days we were not out and about we relaxed and played around the pool. The weather was excellent during our stay and we visited many of the surrounding beaches and also swam in the local river as well as enjoying waterskiing.

La Mallette is perfect French Farmhouse in a small hamlet surrounded by sunflower fields. Whatever you want from a holiday is a short drive away and I would highly recommend this accommodation and location.

Excellent relaxing holiday

Of all the beautiful places I have been fortunate enough to visit this is the only place that I would return to year after year for the following reasons; while you can easily access by car beautiful scenery, Chateaux's, towns, villages and leisure facilities La Malette is perfect for the ultimate relaxing Holiday also. Even the small airport at La Rochelle lends to a stress free arrival. The facilities in the cottage are perfect and the peace and tranquillity of sitting on the patio enjoying the sun was great. The pool in front of the Farmhouse is large with plenty of loungers and the perfect placed to cool down or relax. The town of St Savinien has a great public park with boating lake and caf? and you can sail down the river on your own wee boat. The owners, Rose and Jim, were excellent hosts and provide a great welcome and make sure you are having a relaxing holiday without being intrusive. We had an excellent week relaxing at La Mallette and planned coming back even on the way to the Airport. Thank you Rose and Jim!

Coast/Beach:

There are a multitude of beautiful beaches running from La Rochelle to Royan, St George de Didonne and Suzac. They range from sheltered coves to expansive beaches with impressive Atlantic breakers and can be found within the hour the nearest being 25 mins.

Travel:

Jet 2 La Rochelle from Edinburgh and Leeds ?easy jet from Gatwick and Glasgow to La Rochelle and Bordeaux. La Rochelle (45 mins drive) and Bordeaux (1hr 20min drive) are the nearest airports. The port of St Malo would be approx 4 - 4.5 hour drive. (195 miles to La Rochelle). The port of Dieppe from Newhaven is a 6 hour drive. The port of Caen would be approx 6 hour drive (253 miles to La Rochelle). The tunnel is another option with a drive down on the motorway.

Distances:

St Savinien's position makes it an ideal base to explore the many attractions of the Charente. The Roman town of Saintes. Rochefort. Boat trips to the Islands of Ile d'Oleron, Ile D'Aix (where there are no cars allowed and you can hire bikes to cycle round the island) and Ile d'Re they have individual characteristics and many glorious features.

The region has a wealth of historical sights to enjoy; The old harbour of La Rochelle 45 mins the forts and many chateaux. Cognac distilleries 1/2hr.

Further Details:

La Malette is in a hamlet between Le Nouillers and St Savinien with lovely walks and cycle routes. St Savinien and St Jean D'Angely are our local towns 5/10 mins drive where you will find restaurants, bars, supermarkets, banks and markets. The Atlantys leisure complex is on the edge of St Jean de Angely. There is also a boating lake in both towns. There is a bread van which stops in the hamlet daily or the nearest boulongerie is at Nouiliers, a few minutes walk or bike ride away.
