About the property

One of the best Ceret Villas - Peaceful Location, Walking Distance to Restaurants and Shops, 20 Minutes To The Beach

Superb detached villa, brand new private pool, with solar cover, 200m2 sun terrace with sofa, two arm chairs. A swing chair/bed with drapes overlooks the pool on its own raised terrace area. Two outdoor dining areas, the one to the rear of the property which is a south facing sun trap overlooking the beautiful woods, the other is a covered terrace with built-in French BBQ with views of the surrounding countryside. There is a side lawn large enough for a game of badminton, a table tennis table, a herb garden where you can pick some fresh organic mint, thyme, sage, marjoram, bay or Melissa. We have a row of lavender and some beautiful plants that attract the wildlife. This hidden gem provides a very high standard of accommodation in one of the most sought after areas in the region. Boulangerie, pharmacy, take away, three great restaurants - very French, market stall selling local produce, public basket ball, picnic areas plus a beautiful river and streams to play in, which are all within a short walk. Set in total tranquillity, in a secluded valley yet only 2 miles from Ceret, a beautiful town with plenty of art history, bars and excellent restaurants. The property has been fully refurbished to a very high standard with every possible convenience, such as wifi internet access. The pool is closed from October - April, however, the sauna can be used during this period.

About Susan

Mike packed in his successful job when Theo (our third child) was a baby. We sold up in the UK, bought a trailer tent and ended up at a camp site on a beach with our three children for the summer, looking and deciding where to live. By September we had chosen a school in an area that we liked, set up our own small business and then proceeded to look for a place to buy whilst we rented. Our three children were by now in the local school. We fell upon this house, it was in quite a state when we bought it, however, now with many years of hard work from all the family, it is now a pretty as a picture and we are very proud of it.

We love our French house, we love the people, the lifestyle, the weather – if we had stayed in France any longer we wouldn't have ever come back to the UK.

Susan purchased this villa in 2002

Why Susan chose Reynès

As we were living in France we wanted somewhere quiet but not remote for the children. It had to be accessible so that we could travel back and to to England easily to see the family and somewhere where we could swim, sail in the summer, with a warm, dry climate and yet go skiing in the winter. Chez nous... Montagne - Mer

What makes this villa unique

It’s in a very friendly village, set in a wonderful location where you can access/see the mountains or the sea. From the house you can walk along a quiet lane to the school, boulangerie, and a couple of shops/restaurants. The weather is brilliant, the house is in a sheltered spot with its own micro climate so it is usually warm, sunny, still and dry.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The best location imaginable, loved it'.

Its like a 5 star hotel (June 2013)

‘The villa was/is fantastic, thank you very much indeed. All that was advertised and more’.

‘The villa was fantastic in terms of the villa itself and access. A real gem. In addition it was nice to be in Ceret for the cherry festival!

Thanks again. We will certainly come again and hope to speak to you soon.

I just wanted to let you know that we think your house is lovely, comfortable and very well equipped. Also, the area was really beautiful’

‘Hah! - I told Peg (my wife) that fast decision making brings rich rewards - the villa is fantastic’

Yes, we had a great holiday thanks, with some fantastic weather. In fact, almost too hot at times, but it was nice just to be able to relax and sit by the pool or on the terrace looking over the hillside.

What a fortunate person you are to own such a lovely villa in such a beautiful part of the world.

We had a wonderful holiday, see you again.

Notes on accommodation: The house is sunny with many large windows, built on a hillside with lovely views. The air is as fresh a you can get, with no pollution for hundreds of miles; just trees and more trees as far as the eye can see. The house was designed for outdoor living and eating during most of the year, you can be in the sun or shade from sun rise to sun set. Relax and spot the amazing birds - a Golden Oriole flew past me when I was eating my breakfast on the front terrace; this was on my birthday! Relax in the outdoor lounge of an evening with the pool and or terrace lights on and take a quick dip and listen to the Owls. Wake up in the morning, stroll/cycle to the boulangerie, amble back up to the house, then relax in any one of the outdoor eating areas, gently, wind back the pool cover (heating the water up by 8 degrees) and slip down in the pool to refresh yourself before you relax back for your morning coffee. If you dare, sleep outside on the Ellister Luxor double swing bed with drapes! Outside: The house has a private garden, accessible from the lounge, kitchen and dining room following on to the woods. To the rear of the property accessed from the kitchen there is a terrace and herb garden with a large dining table, off this it takes you to an outdoor triple Suntime Luxor double swing/bed where you can sip coffee whilst overlooking the pool. From here you follow the sweeping steps down to the pool. The pool is 8x4m by 2m deep with a selection of garden furniture/sofa's so that you can laze in the sun between dips in the pool. To one side of the property is an area with table tennis. To the front of the property off the lounge is a covered terrace area with lovely views to the front with a built-in barbecue and seating, ideal for eating or simply enjoying the views, air and tranquility. To the rear of the property the woods merge into secluded forests in the hills above the house. You can soak up the sun from sun rise to sun set, or find a quiet shady spot to relax in. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and Egyptian cotton linen are provided. The property is cleaned at beginning and end of your stay. More often if you require. A welcome basket can be arranged for arrival. Other: Large entrance hall is fully stocked with good classic English books, great family games, DVD's and maps. On the rear patio is a table tennins table, and a hammock swinging in the trees in the private forest above where you will also find a tree swing.

It was a really lovely property and there is much to do locally, plenty of restaurants.

Only we did not always get the blue skies!! I think we were unlucky.

Perfect trip, beautiful part of the world, wonderful weather, great house in a fantastic location.

  • 5 of 5

It is unbelievable how uplifting it can be to take a break abroad in September. The weather was just perfect. Warm, sunny and bright. The air smelt fresh, the scenery was absolutely beautiful. We ate alfresco every day, the ambience was majestic. Alfresco dinning at night too. I didn't wear my coat or jumper. We saw beautiful sun sets, with crystal clear evenings and starry nights. We visited the Museum of Art and saw the amazing Dali exhibition. We hired electric bikes and cycled down to the coast one day, perfect, a beautiful lunch followed by a swim in the sea. One day we cycled up towards the mountain and visited a UNESCO site and again ate a beautiful lunch on the way. There is a segregated cycle path right on the door step that takes you from the mountains to the sea - oh la la, we had such fun whizzing down the mountain, we reached 52km! The house was a joy to come back to after our energetic trips out, it was luxury to have a long soak in a very comfortable Jacuzzi bath, then sit outside and see the stars appear, owls hooting, crickets, frogs and there was even a trace of wild boar activity in the garden! Every night we flopped into the extremely comfortable beds, then again, alfresco dinning on the terrace for breakfast, we were lucky enough to see a Golden Oriel fly right past us! The house was very clean, tidy and had everything we needed, plus it was in a great location, quiet, yet on the door step of Ceret, a sheltered sunny spot, right between the mountains and the sea. We will be back...We did actually do a few other amazing trips, but I won't go into detail! And, don't tell anyone, but we did watch the telly one night too - it was like being at the cinema but with the added bonus of slobbing on some very fluffy comfy sofas!

Villa had positives and negatives. Suspect owner originally put work in but has become blasé. Contact with us was all automatic with no personal contact even when we tried to get a response.

Directions to villa are good. On arrival steep steps to door with no rail either side unsuitable for some travellers. We were just 2 couples and they'd obviously decided therefore we only needed 2 bedrooms - others weren't made up. Annoying as one couple preferred separate rooms but no linen (and no discount for smaller party!). Towels were a bit mean too e.g. one tea towel and no replacements in nearly 2 week stay. Decent sized lounge/diner and large TV but unfortunately (despite following instructions) no UK TV etc although we did eventually get Netflix by ignoring instructions. Kitchen minute with just one useable plug socket. Toaster only partly worked but lots of cutlery/china supplied and tabs for washing machine and dishwasher nice touch. Nice table/chair set just outside kitchen door but no outside lighting here limited use. There was a table tennis table too and this was supplied with not only bats but balls too. Smaller terrace/table to front where (when we replaced the 2 bulbs - no spares supplied) there was lighting. The advertised BBQ is in fact just a chimney - you won't get coals to burn on the flat concrete (no system for venting). The pool area is pleasant with extra supplies in the pool room. However don't spend ages looking for the much talked about pool keys (in instructions) as there don't appear to be any. Two gates, one was locked the other open.

We did try to contact the local manager by email, about bedding/towels and TV. No reply although the day before we left we found a carrier bag of towels outside the front door.

All in all, considering the price bracket, we were disappointed with the villa and especially lack of communication and would not consider a return.

Lots of space, fabulous outside areas, plenty of home comforts. Close to tourist spots.

  • 4 of 5

We spent almost a month in this lovely home for a special occasion. Several groups of family and friends joined us for short breaks. The house was ideal for our needs. There was lots of space to spread out and the outside space was fantastic, especially the pool area. On the few occasions when the weather was less than perfect, the many games, books and TV stations kept us busy. Reynes is very close to some lovely tourist attractions, if you can drag yourselves away from the house. The kitchen was well- equipped for preparing meals and all the beds were comfortable. If you are looking for high spec equipment, marble surfaces, Egyptian cotton sheets and modern decoration, this may not be the place for you; but if you want a home-from- home, it's great! Great value for money! Susan was very accommodating and understanding.

Brilliant property in the best location in the region

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the property in July 2016 and I have to say that we were absolutely delighted.

The property is of very high quality with the most amazing pool terrace and facilities.

It is just the right distance from the pretty market town of Ceret. It is about a five minute drive - close enough to enjoy everything that is on offer but far enough away to be very tranquil. Just what we were looking for in our holiday.

We also really enjoyed the visiting the coast - both the beaches and the beautiful seaside town of Collioure - both being an easy drive away

The property and pool were immaculately clean and the owners and guardians were very helpful indeed.

The main highlight is the pool and terraces which are large with plenty of loungers and 2 nice tables for al fresco dining.

Both the region and the property were a real delight - highly recommended

Great setting and facilities

  • 4 of 5

We all enjoyed our stay very much indeed. The kids loved the pool and is parents enjoyed the extremely quiet setting. For such a quiet position we found that we were never more than an hours drive away from all the attractions we visited including a day trip to Spain. We will certainly be returning.

Special interest holidays:

This is one of the best places you will find for cycling. Miles and miles of quiet tarmac lanes, plus the most amazing brand new cycle path that goes from the mountains to the sea. You can do short trips in to the local town, or spend the day exploring the area. The brand new cycle path links up several towns/villages is very easily accessed from the house - bring your cycle shorts. We have bikes for those who ask by special request.

There is a beautiful coastline within a short drive of the property. Miles and miles of long golden beaches around Argeles are around 20 minutes drive away. They are blue flag and have been voted some of the best in the world. Plus the beautiful fishing villages such as Collioure on the Vermillion coast are a must to visit.

Perpignan 30 mins. Gerona 50 mins. Carcassonne 60 mins. Beziers 60mins

Toulouse 2 hours. Barcelona 2 hours (1hr 20mins by new super TGV train) . Car hire is recommended, however it is not essential.

Local village of Reynes is less than a mile away. Market town of Ceret with loads to do and see is 2 miles away. Perpignan is half an hour's drive away. Spain is about 20 mins away in the car, with Barcelona about 2 hours. The TGV is scheduled to be complete this year making trips to Barcelona much quicker. Beaches from around 20 mins drive.

Further Details:

You can take a short walk to Reynes village either along a quiet lane or over a small river and down a track, past a small holding farm with goats, donkeys, chickens etc They also provide meditation classes, massage and yoga. In Reynes there is a boulangerie, pharmacy, PO, local farmers selling their produce at the height of summer, an outdoor arena near the river that holds festivals with dancing and 3 restaurants in the village all less than a mile away. Ceret (2 miles), has all the commerce's you may need, including an excellent art gallery and a music school that has some magnificent concerts. The area is in the foothills of the Pyrenees meaning that there is a huge amount to see with wonderful wildlife all around. There are many wonderful places to visit, from thermal spar baths(no holiday is complete without a trip), Cathar castles, flying schools, safari parks, water slide parks, zip wire, butterfly sanctuaries, vineyards and every outdoor pursuit that you could imagine from via ferrate to diving - too many to list here!

I do have to mention that the BBC have moved their satellite in the sky, so we are now unable to get regular British TV, however, we have now connected the TV up to a digi box via the internet, so you can stream - BBC iplayer, iTV player, u tube - can now listen and watch videos on the telly you which is great- plug in memory sticks etc...
