Charming Country House with 'Honeymoon Suite', Private Pool and stunning Views

Updated: 27-Oct-2016
Country House in Los Marines, (Periana, Nr. Lake Vinuela, Malaga, Andalucia) - Beautiful Countryside Location. Views of Magnificent Mount Maroma. Starry, starry nights

Andalucia Rural Holiday Accommodation Registration number RTA: VTAR/MA/01447

Nestled in an olive and almond grove, this country house is a unique mix of rustic style and modern amenities with incredible panoramic mountain views. The house is private but not isolated.

Just a few steps from the house is its tiled aquamarine swimming pool (9m x 5m), beautifully set into local rocks and surrounded by palms and other plants. In the shallow end of the pool there wide steps down into the water so you can sit half in, half out of the water and keep your book and/or your music dry. Or float on your lilo, play water polo or simply swim.

Sun loungers are provided on the various terraces around the pool, some in full sun and some under shade and from here you can gaze out at the shimmering silvery foliage of the olive trees or at the distant mountains.

The house is built around a small colourful, cobbled central 'patio'. It has 3 spacious bedrooms, including a 'Honeymoon Suite' which occupies the whole top floor of the house. This is an elegant, relaxing space with it's own balcony overlooking the pool plus its own terrace with panoramic views. Of course it has an en suite bathroom with a large shower, bath, wc and bidet.

The second bedroom also has a double bed, a private balcony overlooking the pool and an en suite bathroom with both shower and bath plus views of the the orange/lemon grove.

The 3rd bedroom has 2 single beds although a 3rd can be added if required.

This room is served by a separate shower room / wc.

All 3 bedrooms have ceiling fans and also electric radiators.

There is a comfortable lounge area, country style kitchen and dining room - or eat out on the shaded front terrace with its original cobbles. The night skies are so starry!

The friendly village of Periana with shops, restaurants, banks, etc is just over 10 minutes drive. Coast 20 mins drive, Malaga centre 45 mins drive.

Rest and enjoy this lovely rural spot, or venture out and explore some of the rich and unique sights and experiences this area has to offer.

About the Owner

The old Finca was a ruin when we bought it back in 1998.

It has been a lot of hard work but great fun restoring and extending the house and trying to make it special and unique. It has been a labor of love.

The owners left an amazing food shop which was greatfully received after our long journey. The welcome pack was filled with ideal information about the house & surroundings. The villa was fully equiped with dverything necessary for a great stay. The villa was clean & views were amazing. We had good communication with the owner prior to our stay. Directions emailed were perfect. The location in the country/hills was lovely, nearest billage was 20 minutes drive, a car is essential. I would highly recommend staying here for a lovely relaxing time.

Luxury Living meets rural Andulucia

We stayed at Casa Maroma for a week in June 2016. My wife and I were celebrating a big wedding anniversary and were looking for something quiet and private but a bit special. Casa Maroma is all of that and more. It's located about 25 minutes inland from the coast. so hiring a car is a must. The road up from the coast is good with some great views across lake Vinuela, The house is about 3km off of the main road though, and that final stretch has a few challenges. We hired a small Ford Fiesta-sized car which was managed the hills and corners fine, but it's a road where the driver needs to pay attention. The house itself is a spacious traditional farmhouse.typical of the area situated in a large plot of land. It retains a mix of traditional ambience of a farmhouse downstairs, which is fully of quirky fixtures and fittings (such as the dining table fashioned from an external door,) There are two good sized double bedrooms downstairs. Upstairs however the Master bedroom which is simply amazing. Very spacious. 2 walk-out balconies with amazing views down the valley, a cozy seating area, marble floored, with a fully equipped ensuite bathroom that is quite luxurious. If you are planning on staying with another couple - be sure to 'call shotgun' on the master bedroom!!However, THE highlight of the property for me is the pool area. This is a fantastic well, equipped private pool that has all the lounging and shaded areas that you'd need. We spent most of our time out there. It gets the sun most of the day, and there are 2 large canopied areas that provide shade if sun-worshipping is not your thing. A picnic table would be a nice addition here though. Despite being remote, we found the wi-fi connection fairly reliable, and got a connection in most areas of the house and pool area.It was very straight forward working with the owners Chris and Michelle. The upfront costs and arrangements were very clearly described, and our deposit was returned a few days afterwards. I had mentioned this was a special anniversary for us, and they were kind enough to leave a card and a bottle of fizz by way of congratulations. They also left some other welcome items which were indeed very welcome after a day's travel from the UKIn terms of the downsides, there were not many, and were fairly minor. The kitchen was fine for the 2 of us, but I think it would be a bit small for a larger party. The appliances are new and clean, but it would benefit from a few more kitchen utensils, a

Beautiful, peaceful and private.

Sensational views of the mountains.

The owners have made sure to provide everything you need for a relaxing and fabulous stay at Casa Maroma.

The house is super clean, typically Spanish with bags of character and a fantastic first floor bedroom suite overlooking the rolling countryside around and mountains beyond.

The house is easy to find from Malaga airport with plenty of opportunities to shop in the villages on the way for fresh food at great value - Riogordo has everything you need before you go exploring - head to Periana for the market etc.

If you can prize yourself away from the pool, Antequera is a super day out with plenty of history, great restaurants and tapas.

Don't miss the village on top of the mountain that is Comares - see for yourself, we won't spoil the surprise...:-)

Lake Vinuela should be on your list but just explore - the drives are beautiful and breathtaking - especially up and down the mountains.

Help is close by if needed but we found everything straightforward and 'visitor friendly'.

Just fab - you will know what we mean when you get there!

A mountain paradise!

We are so sad to leave after our wonderful holiday at Casa Maroma.

The villa is amazing and what views! The house is so spacious and relaxing yet has lots of spanish character and charm. We enjoyed eating on the cobbled front terrace with the fig tree leaves forming a cool green wall and of course we all loved the pool and spent a lot of time just hanging out there in the sun, (though the shaded areas were also very welcome at times).

The location worked really well for us too - the natural beauty of the local area, Periana a short drive away (couldn’t believe it when a herd of goats crossed the road!) and the coast is so accessible. So sad to be leaving but so happy to have discovered Casa Maroma.

Further Details:

Periana, the nearest village, is an attractive, friendly place with views all round towards the mountains, the lake and the sea. The pretty streets are mainly narrow and moorish in style.

It is famous for its olive oil and peaches and a peach fair is held annually towards the end of August. It has a variety of small shops and supermarkets, bars and restaurants, a post office, banks, pharmacy, childrens play areas and a street market each Wednesday morning. 2.5 km outside of Periana are sulphurous moorish baths at Banos de Vilo.

Places to enjoy tapas and several good restaurants are within easy reach of the house including 2 close to the lake about 10 minutes drive away and a mountain top indian restaurant with breathtaking lake views.

Horse riding is available locally.

At lake Vinuela, next door to the elegant Hotel Vinuela, is a little sailing club where you can hire kayaks, small sailing boats and windsurf boards or go out on a boat with a qualified sailing instructor. The coast, with opportunities for varied water sports, is only 20 minutes drive away.

The house is a great starting point for all sorts of adventures whether it be to

- eat delicious spanish food including Manchego cheese, Serrano Ham, tortilla, chorizo, gazpacho, fried fish and shellfish with good but inexpensive wines or local beer

- visit moorish forts and palaces (eg. the Alcazaba and Castillo de Gibralfaro in Malaga or the Alhambra Palace in Granada),

- stare amazed at spectacular gorges (Alhama de Granada),

- encounter one of the largest concentrations of flamingoes in Europe (Fuente de Piedra),

- wander amongst towering reefs and pillars of rock in a natural park (el Torcal) or simply walk in the local countryside,

- howl with the wolves at a wolf park (Lobo Park)

- to go shopping whether in one of the many street markets, specialist spanish shops or in a stylish shopping centre with international brands and a hypermarket (El Ingenio centre around 20 minutes drive away).
