Townhouse in Vejer de la Frontera, Costa de la Luz - Beautiful Traditional Home in Ultimate Central Location, Next to Spectacular Historic Church

In the ultimate central location adjacent to the town church and overlooking a small plaza, this is a large traditional upper class house which includes a past as convent, casino, and telegraph office and has been thoroughly and tastefully modernised. Oak beams, high ceilings and traditional tiled floors, thick walls and shutters inside, traditional whitewash walls and wrought iron balconies outside including three walkout balconies onto the church plaza where tourist parties stop. Sleeps 6 in two double rooms and one twin bedroom, plus a daybed for optional use in a fourth room. Two bathrooms, one ensuite, both with twin washbasins, one bath, one huge walk-in shower. Large (10m long) living/dining room. Huge private roof terrace overlooking church, plaza, and entire town, with lots of local colour in the fiestas, and great views at all times. Patio furniture. Large open-plan kitchen. Totally refurnished, top quality beds and sprung mattresses. Very light due to windows on every aspect, plus 'light bricks' in the ceiling to let in a diffuse illumination, and a large glazed central atrium. The sheer size surprises people - it is around 250m2 on one floor, and the roof private roof terrace is the same size. This is a one-off property in the most privileged position in Vejer - you are actually in the location that other properties have views up to or across to, but are not that close to. Why Giles chose Costa de la Luz - Cadiz

It was love at first sight! I love it, I know that I am looking after a special place with millennia of history, and I like that people are happy in it and that it contributes to the local economy. The people here have a lot of time for other people, especially Spanish speakers and it is a very warm and family-centric culture. I also value the very fresh air free of dust and pollution, the glorious local food and drink, the fact that not every single day has a blazing sun and blue sky, the climate is more nuanced whilst being at the southernmost tip of mainland europe. People live well here - oh that this were available elsewhere. This particular property is for those who love to be in the centre of it all, between church and castle - you will find others 'in the area', but it's not quite the same thing.

What makes this apartment unique

If you like to feel 'on top of the hill' then this property may appeal either because it is in such a privileged position, adjacent to the church overlooking some utterly beautiful cobbled streets and small plaza, or because of the unusually spacious 10m lounge and huge airy layout. If these aspects do not influence you, then all the delightful bars and restaurants within 5 mins may do so. The more homework you do, the more you will discover that this property is different from the average 100 square metre offering and that's why so many return - see the photos for guest commentaries of families who have been 10x and love it more and more.

Great Stay

The apartment was really large and could comfortably handle six people. The photo's don't really do the property justice, it was well maintained and clean, with plenty of equipment to use. The property is really central, just a few minutes walk to the numerous great restaurants. The 'check in / out' service was really efficient.

Wonderful, elegant townhouse, beautiful white town

A beautiful, tasteful, elegant and very spacious house, really well situated on the Cathedral square of this lovely white hill town. There are great views from the balconies and from the amazing roof terrace. The house is extremely well equipped, and was a great place to be during the 40 degree temperatures we experienced this August. The owner, Giles, and the keyholder, Maria Luisa, were both extremely helpful, and provided lots of information about the town and the area. We loved Vejer - it is beautiful in itself, and is very well situated for the beach, and other interesting places nearby, including whale watching at Tarifa. We thoroughly recommend this lovely house.

Well Located, Beautiful Townhouse

We had a fantastic stay at Casa de la Campana in July 2015. The townhouse is ideally situated in the heart of the old town, right next to the beautiful town church and close to all the best tapas bars and restaurants. You really could not be in a better location. The townhouse itself is very large and spacious and really well appointed. It is bright and airy and even on the hottest days remains cool, with a light breeze blowing through the whole house if you open up all the windows. It has massive roof terrace which was fantastic for a sundowner or dinner outside. The owner was very informative of the local area and recommended some great places and restaurants and getting the keys from the managing agent was also a simple process.

I will feel very privileged if I am fortunate enough to return one day.

Great huge house- centre of the village

We stayed at Casa de la Campana for a five days Easter Holiday. Apart from the weather which was fantastic, we enjoyed the house and its situation very much. The house is really big, nicely decorated and well equipped, much more so than the pictures show, and the architecture is great. My husband is an architect and he fell in love with the traditional house structure. The roof terrace is also amazing, and we could enjoy the "procesiones" from the most priviledged position in the village. All in all, an extraordinary option for staying at Vejer, which is one of the most well kept traditional white villages in Andalusia, and just 5 km form the seaside. gilles the owner is very efficient and accommodating, and the local agent performed very well too. Thanks Giles for a great stay.

Fab Central Apartment

We loved this apartment. It turned out to be far more spacious than we were expecting and provoked "apartment envy" in our friends who have a place in Vejer. It was a very convenient and comfortable place to stay, right in the centre of things. We particularly appreciated the sofas and the wealth of bathroom facilities- often an issue in rented holiday accommodation but certainly not here. The night we arrived the town was finishing Feria and so we had the fireworks to enjoy too, the view from the Roof terrace was perfect with the church in the foreground. Vejer itself is a fabulous town and the people are fantastically helpful as I found out when I managed to wedge the rental car on the wall of one of those tight bends in the old town, I escaped with no more than a superficial scratch on the car thanks to one of the locals. Great restaurants and bars too.

It's hard to describe the charm and disinterested helpfulness of the citizens - coming from London I have to consciously shift gears on arrival, it's hard to describe but a very real phenomenon. August is a hectic month but great for party people, and there is no better spot in the entire town to enjoy it all. Oh, yes, and 'narrow, winding streets' does take on a new meaning also - good to know you got off lightly!
