Villa in San Juan de Capistrano, Nerja, Costa del Sol - Large Communal Pool, Children's Pool, Mountain And Sea Views - An Idyllic Spot

Sleeping between 4 and 8 people, this pretty white painted villa has its own terraces and enclosed private lawn garden with shrubs and fruit trees. It is in the small multi-national community of San Juan de Capistrano, just on the outskirts of Nerja. The villa is in the perfect location - 2 mins walk from the superb pool complex which is surrounded by lawns and cafes, bars and a shop - near enough to get to easily but far enough away to be quiet and peaceful. The villa is ideal for larger groups, or for 2 families: the 2 apartments allow you to be together when you want to be, or separate when you need to be. The lower apartment is great for families with small kids: it has both a bath and shower, and its own patio and garden is ideal for babies and youngsters who need some area shaded by the olive tree to play in, or for adults who merely want to read and snooze in the quiet. Or each apartment can be rented by couples or families for an intimate, relaxing holiday.

Lovely Holiday

We stayed in the upper apartment, it was great, lovely views from the balcony and sun terrace. The apartment had everything we needed plenty of room for 4 people, the kitchen area was very good nice big fridge. Bedrooms were roomy and comfortable. The pool just 5 mins walk was great, and the garden areas between the villas so beautiful and well kept. We had plenty of hot days and lovely warm evenings in Nerja and it was the 1st week in October. Will certainly be booking again and probably with more members of the family. Thank you.

Fabulous Villa

We have just returned from a stay in the lower apartment. As we had two small children we accepted the owner's recommendation of staying in the lower apartment. The apartment was clean and had everything that we needed. The verandah and garden provided areas of both sun and shade at all times of the day. The location of the apartment within the complex was perfect. The complex itself was lovely. We pretty much had the children's pool and adjacent sun deck to ourselves the entire holiday and liked the fact that part of the children's pool was in the shade at most times during the day. You do have to pay to hire loungers and umbrellas by the pool (3 euros and 1 euro respectively) but there is enough grass space to put your towels down if you don't want to pay. The restaurants at the complex were very good and very convenient. We had a car and drove to the beach (ample parking near the town centre and often free parking on the street is available). We would not have fancied the trek up the hill in the heat and with two toddlers. We also drove to The Alhambra which was amazing. The owners were very helpful and prompt in answering all correspondence. We would definitely recommend the apartment to all and would love to return.

Loved this apartment and location.

We stayed in the upper apartment for a week and had a wonderful holiday. The property was very clean and well maintained and had everything we could possibly need. The patio and terrace had stunning views over Nerja, the sea and the mountains and was so peaceful and quiet. The San Juan Capistrano development is beautiful; very pretty well maintained gardens and the pool was bigger than we expected and cleaned regularly.

We did not have a car and walked everywhere; it was a very pleasant 25 mins walk into town or to the beach (it's uphill coming back) and one day we had a lovely walk to the caves which are stunning- a must see! We ate mostly in Nerja but we had one of our favorite meals at the pool bar onsite called 'sink or swim'. We also visited Frigliana by local bus which run frequently through out the day and only cost 1 euro each! It's also possible to get a bus to the caves.

We would definitely recommend this apartment to friends and family and for larger groups the whole villa would be great.

Location

Nerja is such a lovely Spanish town; we fell in love with the place while working in Madrid for 3 years. We originally thought of living here permanently, but have decided to let others share in the enjoyment of our villa and of Nerja. The beaches are superb, and there are some gorgeous villages sprinkled in the mountains just to the north of us.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

There are many lovely beaches in Nerja, the nearest to this villa (and in our opinion the best) Burriana beach is about 1.5 km away - a short easy drive, or a comfortable hike. The beaches have a wide choice of bars and restaurants; a speciality is an enormous paella cooked over an open fire. For those keen walkers, the hiking in the nearby hills and mountains is spectacular.

Travel:

Fly to Malaga, then 50 min motorway drive. There are many car hire companies operating from the airport; the one we use is Record Rentacar, who have a good selection of cars at competitive prices; and their queue is often much shorter than the better known companies! We can arrange a taxi to take you to our villa, but it can cost the same to hire a car for the week. Nerja also offers a good bus service from it's bus station to most surrounding towns, including Malaga.

Distances:

There are many of the 'white painted villages' to explore, in the beautiful and dramatic mountain areas just to the north of Nerja.

The world-famous Nerja caves are on the outskirts of the town, 1 km from the villa.

Granada, with it's fabulous Alhambra Palace, is an easy day trip to the east. Or you could take a day trip westwards along the Costa del Sol towards Malaga and beyond to the more populated touristy resorts of Puerta Banus, Torremolinos, and even into Gibraltar.

Further Details:

Nerja is a pretty town with narrow streets, a weekly market, excellent restaurants, bars and nightlife. The town marks the eastern tip of Málaga's Costa del Sol. Once a sleepy fishing village, Nerja now has a population of over 12,000.

It boasts 16 kms of beaches with clean sand and sparkling clear water. All major water sports are available here, including water skiing, scuba diving and sailing.

Flanked by a dramatic mountain range to the east, the town has managed to avoid being blighted by concrete high-rises. The old quarter of the town is still virtually unchanged with narrow, winding streets, whitewashed houses with wrought iron terraces overflowing with geraniums.

The heart of Nerja is its spectacular Balcón de Europa, the "Balcony of Europe", a magnificent promenade along the edge of a towering cliff, with sweeping panoramic views of the Mediterranean and the small coves and beaches below, against an awesome backdrop of hazy blue mountains.

There are plenty of restaurants and cafes here to choose from. The town's monuments include the 17th century Church of El Salvador, in a style which is a charming mixture of baroque and Moorish, and the beautiful Gardens of Capistrano Playa, which descend to Burriana Beach.

However, Nerja's most spectacular attraction is undoubtedly its fascinating caves, located just 1 km from our villa. They include archaeological treasures such as paintings over 20,000 years old and other pre-historic remains. One of the enormous natural caverns has been transformed into a concert hall, where many performances are staged during the summer.

Finally, for those who want to enjoy Nerja's many nightclubs and bars into the early hours, then the Tutti Frutti area in the centre of town is perfect for you.

The community pool just a couple of minutes away is a delightful place to spend the day: a pool for the kids in a lovely quiet area, and a huge one for the grownups. The cafes and bars around the pool provide everything one needs for a snack or full lunch, and of course ice-creams and drinks all day long.

  • Notes on accommodation: Are you a large group of friends, or 2 families holidaying together? Do you want to be close, but think you might occasionally need a bit of privacy? This villa is ideal for you - together when you want to be, apart when you need to be! The villa has its own private terraces with sun furniture and BBQs. The lower apartment has a garden and a patio. The upper apartment has both a large patio and a roof terrace, with spectacular all-round views. These are fantastic terraces to gather in the evenings after a long day, to enjoy a beer, wine or cava (or several!) as you watch the sun go down, highlighted by the spectacular sunsets. All day, and until 10pm in the summer, you have exclusive use of the extensive, fully supervised, adult and children's communal pools, which are open from Easter to end-October. Outside: San Juan de Capistrano, which is 5 mins by car or 20 min walk from Nerja, has beautiful established gardens and walkways, the pools, and cozy restaurants. There is a superb shop near the pool which stocks a wide range of food stuffs including fresh dairy produce, plus the full range of daily British and other European newspapers and magazines. The gardens (including our own) are tended by professional gardeners, and the whole area is patrolled by the site's own security staff, so it's very safe and peaceful. A frequent local bus service operates from the shop into Nerja, and takes a small and enjoyable sightseeing tour passing through many urbanisations, before reaching the centre of Nerja. The journey takes about 15 mins. This is an excellent way to enjoy the many bars, restaurants and night clubs in town without having to use the car!
