Casa Lumi is a delightful villa furnished to a high standard to offer our clients the best comfort and elegance. It is a haven of tranquility and relaxation surrounded by a large garden with orange, lemon, olive and walnut trees with amazing views of the mountains and countryside. It is not unusual to see locals still working the rich fertile land with an ox-drawn cart in this rural and unspoilt region of North Portugal. The local church (opposite the villa) has traditional festivals throughout the year, most local village activity revolves around the church. A natural water fountain with fresh mountain water is just a short stroll away, wonderful scents of pine and eucalyptus fill the air along the way. Free wi-fi / internet in the villa with a Smart TV. We also have a book case, selection of board games, cards and children's toys.

About the Owner

Casa Lumi was built in 2002 and designed by ourselves, we installed the pool a few years later and keep adding new additions every year. We are a family of four, with two boys. Our dream was to build a house and enjoy this region of the North of Portugal that is still totally unspoilt by tourism. There is so much to see and do, either by visiting the cities or exploring the National Park with plenty of activities to keep everyone occupied. We hope you will enjoy your stay as much as we do.

We also donate at least one week a year for charity and this year we have helped Prostate cancer at a charity auction.

This region of North Portugal is still untouched by tourist prices, example of some prices: Less than one euro : white coffee, tea, soft drinks, bottle of beer or draught beer. Average bottle of wine in a restaurant around 6€, a set menu for lunch with wine and coffee 6€ per person. The euro definitely goes further in the North than in the Algarve.

Special interest holidays:

Water sports are available on the Caniçada Lakes next to the Geres National Park, an area of natural outstanding beauty, (only 18 kms away). Safari jeep rides, jet skis, pedaloes, canoeing, boat hire, boat trips, horse-riding, archery, paintball, quad bikes and fishing also available. Guided walking trails and rock climbing down waterfalls. Paragliding at Monte de Sao Pedro (10kms). River beach within 10 minutes walk. Day trips and adventure days can be arranged locally to visit the beauty and natural fauna of the National Park. Spa breaks at the nearby Caldelas Thermal Spa (6kms) providing various treatments including hydro massage, facials, algae body wraps, body massage with essential oils, a wonderful experience at affordable prices. Take a visit to the Spas and Hydros at Caldelas (5 minutes drive) or at Caldas do Geres, includes water fountains, mineral pool and various treatments to soothe the mind and body. This is also a medical and rehabilitation centre. Water park in Fafe.


River Homem is within walking distance of the villa, where the locals swim in the summer months, nearest beaches are at Esposende and Ofir where there are long stretches of beautiful clean sandy beaches, approximately 40 minutes drive. Horse-riding, hiking, safari jeeps, canoeing and water sports within 20 mins drive. This area is a favourite for walkers with many walking trails. Peneda-Geres National Park you’ll discover amazing backdrops in which to discover ancient ruins and wildlife


Porto airport is located a 1 hr drive (65km) 30 minutes motorway and 30 minutes country roads, well sign posted.Car hire is recommended, taxi transfers available (prices from 75 euros one way). Flights: Easyjet Gatwick or Luton to Porto. Ryanair from Stansted, Liverpool, Birmingham, Bristol, Boden, Dublin, Dusseldorf, Eindhoven, Hahn, Brussels, Frankfurt. TAP from LHR & LGW (2 hrs), Air Berlin, Iberia, Hapag-Lloyd Express and Luthansa. BA to Santiago de Compostela in N. Spain (2 hrs) or Lisbon.


Casa Lumi is ideally situated between the historical city of Braga (18km) with its ancient Cathedral and the Castelo of Bom Jesus with its monumental stairway interspersed with chapels and fountains. The Therapeutic Spa and outside swimming pools of Caldelas are only 7km away and the Canicada Lakes and National Park of Geres are also close by. The Municipal Football Stadium of Braga 16kms from the villa.

Within the village of Souto there are 3 restaurants, 1 pizzaria, 3 bars/coffee shops (1 is only a minute walk away), 2 mini-supermarkets and church. Banks, post office, chemist, health centre, larger supermarket, further shops and restaurants are 5kms away in Terras de Bouro town. A natural water spring is a few minutes walk for fresh drinking water. Free Internet access and printer available at the Posto Turismo in Terras de Bouro town (5 minutes by car). Free wi-fi at the villa. Restaurant prices in this region remain low with large portions, local beers are less than 1 euro, glass of port 1 euro, bottle of wine 6 euros, soft drinks 1 euro, coffee 80 cents. The area still have local prices and are not inflated by tourist prices.

Whether you’re dining at one of Porto’s atmospheric riverfront bistros, on the beach or in a rustic village café, a chilled glass of the region’s lightly sparkling Vinho Verde is a great accompaniment.

The ancient riverside city of Porto is simply brimming with historic buildings and monuments recalling its colourful past. Take the train from Braga to Sao Bento. It’s a great place to admire architectural gems such as the imposing Cathedral and decorative São Bento train station. A short walk down to the riverfront from Sao Bento station or take the funicular, you will find the famous port wine caves of Taylors, Fonseca and Sandeman that have tours in all languages and sampling, then take the funicular back up. Don’t miss a visit to the medieval seaside town of Vila do Conde and the famous Santa Clara Monastery with its 5km-long aqueduct, built on 999 arches.

Newly built Summer terrace to enjoy the wonderful outside with views of the mountains and sunset and newly built shaded BBQ area complete with sink and our own unique olive trunk table. We aim to make the villa as comfortable as possible and hope that we have provided everything you need to feel at home and relax. Help yourselves to the oranges and lemons from the trees for fresh orange juice in the morning or for the perfect gin and tonic.
