Luxury home from home holidays at our Cortijo with huge pool and lake/sea views.

Updated: 16-Nov-2016
Country Villa between Periana and Alcaucin, Inland Costa del Sol, Andalucia. - Peaceful and secluded but only 5 mins to village, 25 mins beach and an hour to Malaga/Granada.

Characterful, stylish and spacious restored Andalucian country villa with huge 10x5 metre swimming pool and breathtaking views over Lake Vinuela and the Mediterranean. Private and secluded, with beautiful gardens and flowering climbers, jasmine and bougainvillea. There are lots of different terraces with sun loungers for reclining and lazing in the sunshine or under the grapevines, plus an outdoor kitchen with barbecue and Moroccan furniture for dining alfresco.

This is a Mediterranean country villa, with wooden beams, whitewashed walls, original terracotta floors, handmade ceramics and antique rustic furniture. The bedrooms are very comfortable, with king size beds, feather pillows and Egyptian cotton linen and towels. The open plan Kitchen Dining Room is 55m2 and equipped with range style cooker, dishwasher and chrome fridge freezer, and the lounge with squashy sofas has a music system, dvd, and old family library with hundreds of books, films and CDs to cater for all tastes and ages.

We can organise excursions including horse riding and guided walks, plus reservations at the Alhambra Palace and Malaga’s Picasso museum. There are excellent local restaurants/tapas bars close by, and we can arrange a local chef to prepare picnics and special meals. Aromatherapy massage is also available, and if there is anything else we can do to make your stay more comfortable just let us know – we are happy to help!

Wildflowers, butterflies and birdlife, no traffic, yet only 5 mins to local village of Periana and half an hour from the beach. Close to Malaga/Granada, both with international airports, and within easy access of sightseeing at the white villages of the Axarquia, the Alhambra Palace, Cordoba, Seville and Ronda.

"Blissfully Relaxing! La amapola is in one of the most beautiful locations in southern Spain. The view from the large hill-top swimming pool is absolutely spectacular, stretching down over olive groves and meadows of wild flowers to the blue lake below and on to the sea. The house itself has a vast kitchen and verandah and attractive bedrooms. The couple who own it are very hospitable and helpful. We had a wonderful time and can't wait to come back!”

"Highly recommended! What a great place to come and unwind and relax. A fabulous house in a fabulous part of Spain. We have had a great holiday – birds (golden eagles, nightingales, swallows), flowers, scenery, a lovely climate in May. Loved every minute of our time here!" RS (UK).

The property was more than we expected even better than the pictures.

  • 5 of 5

The villa was truly beautiful, well maintained, clean and spacious. Everything you needed was there even toiletries, there was a wonderful welcome pack so you could settle straight into your holiday. All thought out brilliantly to make your stay so special. The decoration of the villa is fabulous so relaxing, comfortable and authentic. We loved all the different outside areas, BBQ, court yards, seated areas, patio area under grape vines, pool and gardens. It is a one in a million property, very private, quiet and tranquil. All set in a wonderful area to explore.

Best house ever!

  • 5 of 5

We have had a fantastic holiday at Amapola. The house is beautiful, the best we have ever rented! A nice pool, and the terrace with a view to the lake is truly amazing.

The morning walks among the olive trees took us back 500 years in time. It is so peaceful and beautiful. We have enjoyed every minute!

Stunning. Ticked all the boxes.

  • 5 of 5

We have had the good fortune to stay in several really lovely holiday villas but Villa Ampola tops them all. This a glorious and very sympathetically and tastefully restored property in the mountains between Malaga and.Granada. There are several outdoor terraces, we used different ones for breakfast, lunch, siestas, sundowners dinner, and lazing beside the lovely and good sized pool. This was a godsend when we became slightly overheated! The views from each terrace were breathtakingly beautiful, and so different, depending on the light of the day.

The villa inside was beautiful also. Just my cup of tea! I just loved the size and space of the kitchen, the coziness of the lounge and bright spacious bedrooms. Beautiful double doors leading from the rooms to the outside spaces. The villa was comfortable, tastefully furnished, homely and welcoming, and absolutely spotless.Fantastic library for perusal also.

We were given a very warm welcome by the very friendly and engaging owners, who were near at hand if we needed them. They gave lots of tips re good restaurants and places to visit.

All in we could not fault our stay in Villa Ampola. It in itself was a beautiful space situated within the most glorious surroundings, easily accessible from Malaga airport and to the coast, as well as some interesting hilltop towns which are well worth visiting, and of course the wonders of Granada. Malaga old town also worth a visit. Wonderful produce in the market there.

Villa Ampoula was a wonderful experience as well as a most restful and relaxing place to stay. A week really was not long enough. We will have to return

The best place we have stayed

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here last May and had a fabulous holiday – we want to come back next year and stay for longer next time. The house is beautiful and has all the little extra comforts/luxuries you could want – comfy big beds, nice linen, state of the art kitchen - which we really enjoyed as there were a few of us, all into cooking – and eating! The pool is huge and in the most incredible spot with these views of the lake and sea that were just to die for. You can see all the way to Morocco on a clear day, every direction you look is just incredible. The place is not your usual holiday rental, more like a luxury country house hotel but self-catering, stylish and well equipped, just exceptional in every way. The owners were really helpful and friendly but not in our face, helped us book restaurants and gave us tips on stuff to do. Overall we had such a great time here and can’t recommend it highly enough.

An idyllic getaway!

  • 5 of 5

La Amapola is truly stunning. We arrived at the house and were instantly blown away by the huge kitchen/ diner perfect for having big family meals. We never seem to have the time or space to eat together at home. There are loads of cookery books perfect for trying out authentic Spanish recipes. We made a Paella using local produce and the kids couldn't get enough of it!

The house was a perfect base for exploring the area. Highlights were the gorgeous Nerja beach and the hot springs of Alhama de Granada. There was loads to do at the house too with a massive pool, Wifi, loads of DVD's and board games to keep everyone happy. I even went home as the Grand Champion of Diminishing Whist much to the annoyance of all concerned!

The bedrooms are a great size and the beds were so comfy I found myself sleeping in on several occasions which is most unlike me. We'll definitely be back again, it was the best family holiday I can think of!

Our stay at La Amapola was truly spectacular. The location in the Malagan mountains offered stunning views for miles around and a sense of idyllic tranquility that I'm yet to have experienced elsewhere.

The facilities are all lovely - beautiful, huge kitchen with all the kit you could ask for; lovely, comfortable bedding; comfy fireside sofa.

Also really easy to get into town for shops, restaurants etc.

All in all, can't recommend it enough and I am looking forward to going back!
