Less than ten minutes away is St Nicholas des Eaux, a wonderfully picturesque spot on the river Blavet where as well as visiting the restaurants and bars you can hire kayaks, go on a river cruise or cycle along the tow path. There are excellent beaches at Lorient (30 minutes) and the south coast including Carnac (40 minutes). The nearest ports are St. Malo (2 hour drive) and Roscoff (2 hours and 15 minutes). Both houses have new and efficient central heating systems making them ideal venues at any time of the year. About Carol Watson
We live in West Sussex, my husband Tony is a project manager in the telecoms industry and I am a Training Consultant. We have three children ranging from 32 years to 17 years.
We bought Le Manoir de Mouflon 18 years ago and are fortunate to have a great team of people who have managed Mouflon for us for a number of years.
I was brought up in Cornwall and my family were hoteliers. As a teenager I used to work as a waitress and chambermaid in the holidays and at weekends. We joined the family business for a few years and managed a 50 bedroom family hotel in Newquay. Owning our own holiday business was something we had always aspired to.
We now live in West Sussex, close to Portsmouth which is handy for the Ferry. We visit Mouflon about four times a year, sometimes to do some maintenance and decorating other times to enjoy the house and area, usually with the extended family or groups of friends. I always return feeling refreshed and wishing I could have stayed longer!

Why Carol Watson chose Pontivy area
Mouflon had been empty for many years when we first saw it and was totally neglected and overgrown. When we started clearing the property we even found a small cottage we hadn't realised was there. The location is perfect but the first thing to hit you is the sheer size of the house. It had been in the same family for many generations and the last owner was a spinster who had spent 10 yrs in a nursing home. We found many of her belongings including photos, letters and documents dating back to the 1700's. I keep them in a suitcase but should really do something with them. The house still has many original features, some parts date back to the 1650's. What makes this farmhouse unique
When we visit Mouflon we like to take friends and family, usually with plenty of children. There is space for the children to roam freely and very little traffic to worry about. Although the area is rural and relatively peaceful it is touristy enough to provide plenty of 'entertainment' pretty villages, medieval towns, shopping, restaurants, zoo's, adventure parks and plenty of beaches. What often happens is the group divides into small groups, some to golf, others to the town for shopping/coffee and some just chill out by the pool.
We renovated the house with large family groups in mind so there is minimal clutter, plenty of kitchen equipment, basins in every bedroom and kitchens and bathrooms to match the standard you would have at home. It's also nice not to have the owners on site

Activity and Interests
The beaches at Lorient and Port Louis are about 30 minutes drive and the south coast about 40 minutes. There are many popular sandy beaches on this coast including Carnac and Guidel Plage
Mouflon is about 2 hours drive from St Malo, 2.15 hours from Roscoff, 3.5 hours from Caen and 4 hours from Cherbourg
Places to Visit:.
The local beauty spot, St. Nicholas des Eaux, is only a few
minutes drive, situated on the River Blavet, it offers a range of activities including a river cruise, pedaloes and canoes to hire, fishing, cycling and riverside walks along the scenic tow path. There are a couple of restaurants, bars and an excellent creperie, all overlooking the river.
There is a bakery, supermarket and a few bars in the village of St. Barthelemy which is only a couple of minutes drive away. The nearest town is Baud, a 15 minute drive (9km), an attractive bustling market town with a good selection of traditonal shops and restaurants, 3 large supermarkets, a Brittany postcard museum and an indoor swimming pool.
Carnac is on the south coast and is famous for its standing stones or megaliths. It is also a lively and popular seaside resort with large, sandy beaches. The old town is attractive and also worth a visit. La Trinite-sur-Mer is adjacent to Carnac and is famous as a sailing centre, it has a large marina with hundreds of yachts and some excellent shops and galleries.
A little further on is the Quiberon peninsula which stretches 14km into the sea and boasts 14 sandy beaches and more than 2,500 hours of sunlight a year. The main town of Quiberon is one of Morbihans liveliest and most popular resorts with a large sandy beach, promenade and plenty of beachside bars, restaurants and souvenir shops.
One place not to be missed is Vannes, a superb medieval town and port seeped in history with narrow cobbled street, ancient buildings, a cathedral, castle walls and lots of interesting, good quality shops and restaurants. There is a large market on Saturday and Wednesday mornings in the centre of the town (40 minutes drive).Auray is about a 30 minute drive and has a market on Monday mornings. It’s an attractive town with an exceptionally pretty harbour called St Goustan, the perfect place to sit and have lunch or a coffee. There are lots of art galleries and antique shops. Large markets are held there on Monday and Sunday morning. To get there drive through the centre of Baud and you will see the Auray signs, when you get to Auray park in the town centre and walk down a steep cobbled street to get to the harbour. Well worth a visit.
Carnac and Trinite sur Mer will take about 40 minutes. Trinite is a famous sailing venue with hundreds of yachts moored there, it has an attractive Marina, shops and restaurants. Carnac is a large, very popular beach resort also famous for its standing stones. There is a particularly good beach on the road between Trinite and Carnac. It’s a lively resort with plenty of café’s, bars and souvenir shops
Concarneau is the third largest fishing port in France and has an attractive medieval old town and large granite ramparts. The quaint old streets are full of interesting souvenir shops (and tourists!) there is a fishing museum (Musee de la Peche)and you can walk on the ramparts. Worth a visit
A little further on is Quimper, an impressive city with lots of history, medieval buildings, narrow streets, shops, pavement cafes and restaurants.
Guidel Plage is a sandy beach, safe for children to paddle in the estuary, it has a childrens play park, public toilets, a few café’s and shops. To get there take the main road to Lorient, as you approach Lorient continue in the direction of Quimper. Take the turning to Guidel, go to the town centre and then take the road to Guidel Camors Adventure Forest (tel 0297 392869) is fun particularly for older children and teenagers. It has ‘zip wires’ that take you through the forest. it’s about 20 minutes drive, go through Baud onto Camors and turn right just before the church, it is signposted
For younger children in particular Branfere Animal Parc is very pleasant, is all outdoors so needs a dry day. It’s located at Le Guerno which is just beyond Vannes (about 50 mins drive from Mouflon)
Poulfetan near Quistinic is a reconstructed 16th Century village just 20 minutes drive away. Villagers in traditional costume demonstrate traditional activities and crafts. There are street musicians and story tellers in July and August. Tel 0297 395174 for opening times
Other suggestions are Go-karting near Plumeliau, Ten pin bowling in Pontivy.
At Melrand there is an excellent restaurant La Tourelle (0297 395113) post code 56310 It isgood quality french and breton food and welcomes children. To get there turn left out of Mouflon, take the next left then turn right, go over the bridge and straight on to Melrand (about 10 minutes), when you reach the town centre turn right and the restaurant is on your right.

Bookings are Sunday to Sunday in July and August and flexible at other times of the year. Departure is before 10 am and to allow for cleaning arrival is after 4pm.

Prices are for each property per week in UK Pounds. Discount (about 5%) when booking both houses together. Prices includes all linen (except bath and pool towels), electricity, gas, central heating, cots and high chairs, additional Z-beds, a weekly clean and change of sheets for bookings of 2 weeks or more.

- Notes on accommodation: The Manor House is an impressive stone house with spacious, light and airy rooms, many original features including superb wooden floors, all tastefully decorated and well furnished. The large kitchen/dining room is at the centre of activity in the house. It is light and airy with lots of windows, yet can still be warm and cosy. The Longere is a traditional Breton Long House, newly converted to provide superb accommodation of a very high standard. The 'piece de resistance' is the very large open-plan lounge, kitchen and dining area. It is light and sunny, stylishly decorated and furnished with lots of large windows. French windows open onto a private patio area, the ideal spot to sit and have breakfast or morning coffee with unrestricted views of the open countryside. The large garden has plenty of lawn for ball games, a children's play area with a sand pit, table tennis and trampoline. The heated swimming pool (shared by the two houses) is 10m x 5m with Roman steps, secure fencing and plenty of room for sun loungers. The pool is available from the beginning of May to the end of September and by arrangement at other times of the year. Both houses have a private, south facing sun terrace with wooden patio furniture and a barbecue. There is ample parking next to the properties.
