Stone House in Aigremont, Languedoc-Roussillon, France - In Spring/Summer The Vines And the light! - In Winter Views Of Snow Capped Peaks- Everyday Peaceful!

La Remise offers a warm respite in a fully renovated spacious stone Provencal farm house with privacy and ambiance that personifies life in the south. Our house is exceptionally comfortable, stocked with creature comforts and a location to get almost anywhere when the desire arises. Aigremont is a small village complete with an ancient chateau surrounded by tiny lanes. House has a south-facing terrace to breakfast and dine watching the sun set over the Cevennes mountains. Visit local markets - famous Uzes on Saturday (25 min away) or many other nearby markets (Anduze, Sauve, Quissac) - local produce, fresh fish, cheese, as well as locally produced fabrics, pottery, soap, leather and of course great local wine. Visit the ancient Roman aqueduct Pont du Gard. Area restaurants offer a variety of tastes and costs - traditional French to nouvelle cuisine. One of the best sandy beaches in the south of France is a 45 minute ride away. Temperatures late April to September @25-30 degrees C. We are happy to provide more info.

About April

We love our house in this small, quiet village in the south of France. We have enjoyed building the house that started out with dirt floors, no roof to speak of, falling down stone walls, no electricity or water - it was an old remise (barn). From the ruin it is now a cherished "mas" in the village.

We hope you will enjoy staying at La Remise as much as we do. The house is well equipped with fine French furniture mixed with more contemporary pieces. It is very comfortable, with a fully equipped kitchen, a stone BBQ on the terrace, a view across the fields to the Cevennes mountains, and private pool and garden. It is a sancutary in the midst of many sites within an hour's drive. And where else can you see so many shooting stars and bird races overhead.

Why April chose Anduze - Cevennes Piedmont

Watching the sunsets over the mountains and the star filled skies convinced us that this was for us! And finding beautiful antiques from the area and artwork that has a special meaning has helped us think about the area every time we are there. And of course the people are friendly and welcoming to say nothing of the food, wine and the light (and sun)!

What makes this villa unique

We know that it is sometimes difficult to rely on the web description of the house, its contents and environment surrounding the holiday house. And sometimes the photos are positioned in such a way as to show only that segment of the house or grounds that omit the bit less enticing, or the kitchen is listed as being "fully equipped" when it really is missing necessary items.

We hope that, should you let our house, you will find that there are no missing bits from either the kitchen, the garden, pool, the house or anything else we have reported as being in great or better order and present.

We welcome your enquiry and your review of what previous guests to La Remise have said to assure you that you are making the right choice to let our house for your holiday.

Bonnes Vacances!

Guestbook comments from the owner

'La Remise was more than we ever imagined. We could feel the warmth of the family throughout the house. We will never forget our afternoon swims in the summer sun nor the amazingly beautiful sunsets over the Cevennes mountains in the distance. Even the wine from the neighboring villages was exceptional. We hope to return again some time soon. Sincerely, Jerrod from Lancaster England.'

'Thank you for letting my family stay at your pretty house. I am 12 years old but I had lots to do there. I liked the games and the ping pong in the playground. Oh yes, and we all loved to swim in the pool, especially my dad. I got to go buy the bread every morning from the boulangere and that was fun. Thank you, Geraldine, Devonshire.'

'What a great time we had at La Remise! Not only was it very comfortable but beautifully decorated. Barbecue outside was where we had most of our evening meals. The starlit skies were breathtaking, too (oh and the shooting stars a bonus). Mr and Mrs Jack, Oxford.'

Notes on accommodation: La Remise has full central heating. There are also two large fireplaces to complement the heating. Each room has a fan while the kitchen, lounge/salon, 2 bedrooms have fixed ceiling fans. There are also lots of undefined space in the house. For example, in addition to the kitchen/dining area, lounge, bedrooms and library, there is a large hallway/anti room outside the bedrooms on the upper floor and a long hallway alongside the library. And there is a private sitting area outside the entry to the house as well as several sitting areas around the pool or on the balconies leading from two of the bedrooms. Games are available for all ages. And there is a comprehensive library, just bring a book, read it, and leave it. A baby cot and high chair can be provided. We love our house and hope that you will also. If you want a quality house/experience with excellent amenities - all in great condition - you will like our house. Outside: The secure front and rear gardens are a mixture of shrubs, bamboo, vines, roses, local trees and a lawn. The four by 8 metre pool is totally private. The pool is unheated. There are ample loungers, garden chairs and a round hand painted table for al fresco dining. Terrace has a full size table (2x1 meters) and chairs for outdoor meals and a glass of wine to watch the sun set over the mountains - and also watch the birds race above @8.45pm each evening in the summer. The sunsets are really magnificent - honest! The traditional French game of boules can be enjoyed in the garden (full set is supplied). There is an easy to use barbecue complete with all tools and equipment - just supply the charcoal. I know you have heard it before but our house is clean, the furnishings are antique (except the beds and mattresses of course) and La Remise is totally renovated - there was nothing but a roof and walls when we arrived--and the floor was dirt! And today it is beautiful and complete. Utility Room: No utility room but, there is a piano in the sitting room/lounge. There is a washing machine in the kitchen. House is stone - floors on ground floor are composed of old traditional tiles and the first floor is combination of hardwood and tile flooring Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Cleaning service is provided before and after each stay. All linen, including hand, bath and pool towels are provided. Interim cleaning service may be available by arrangement with the house manager. Other: Library, off of the lounge has books, sofa, large farm table / desk and view of mountains, vineyards and pool. There is WiFi and free phone to land lines in Europe and elsewhere. A barbecue and teak table and chairs on terrace.

Fabulous place for a relaxing holiday

  • 5 of 5

We spent 10 days at La Remise in August and had a fantastic time. The house is exactly as described with a fantastic setting and a huge amount of space inside. Despite 30C+ temperatures outside the thickness of the walls meant it was cool and airy inside. Sitting on the patio watching the sunset over the Cevenne mountains was exactly as described.

With Avignon, Nimes and the Med less than an hour away there is so much to do, or you can just relax and enjoy the pool.

The owners were great to deal with, the local agent was just a call or text away if needed and I've been recommending it to everyone as a great place to rent!

The best sort of therapy

  • 5 of 5

A lovely and extremely well equipped villa within reach of so many interesting places to visit; beaches, mountains, historic towns, markets and the Camargue. That's if you can bear to leave the hypnotically relaxing view and the wonderful pool! We've just come back from a three generation family holiday at La Remise and there was something for everyone in this lovely but somewhat overlooked part of southern France.

Absolutely Superb!

  • 5 of 5

We loved La Remise from the moment we got there. What an amazing job the owners have done, they have a beautiful home, with everything and more you need to enjoy your holiday.

Swimming in the pool looking at the mountains, the awesome sunsets, dinner on the terrace we could go on, this is unquestionably the best house we have rented to date. The area is great too, so many activities and places to visit within a small radius - great holiday wish we were still there

A Beautiful Home in Southern France

  • 5 of 5

La Remise is a home built from the foundation of an old barn designed to look as though it were there forever. The design, with stone walls inside and out, succeeds in this objective. And yet it has every modern convenience. WiFi , TV, sound system. A lovely piano and library. Pool. We have visited twice, this time for about 2 weeks, taking day trips to Avignon, the Rhone for a wine tasting day and lunch at Entre Vignes et Garrigue ( not to miss!), Uzes (twice for the greatest market ever) , Aix en Provence for the sheer beauty of it. And we also took in nearly every small village within 1/2 hour by car of Aigremont. Dinners mostly at "home," as it's easy to feel that way about La Remise. Imagine having a glass of wine while looking at the valley's vineyards watching breathtaking sunsets over the Cevanne mountains. Ok! I'm relaxed again just remembering it!

La Remise

  • 5 of 5

Although we usually aim to visit somewhere new each holiday, when we suggested France again this year, the kids (now 18, 15 and 10) were adamant that we should return to La Remise, where we had spent a wonderful fortnight in 2011. We were more than happy to oblige and as we sat on the terrace on our first night back, watching the sun set over the Cevennes, it felt like we had never been away.

We all adore La Remise. The house is gorgeous and its restoration has clearly been a true labour of love. The rooms are comfortable and beautifully furnished and the kitchen extremely well equipped. The house also offers satellite TV and a Wi-Fi connection. Outside, the terrace, with built-in barbecue, provides a great area to eat or just relax. The garden is very well tended and the pool provides a superb focal point.

Pat, the house manager, was there to meet us when we arrived and provided a very warm welcome. The chilled bottle of local wine and olives from the trees in the garden were a lovely touch.

Aigremont provides a perfect base for exploring Provence and the Languedoc. The list of things to see and do within easy distance is endless: fascinating days out in Nimes, Arles, Avignon and Orange; hunting for flamingos in the Camargue and walking the walls at Aigues Mortes; visiting the ruins at Les Baux; and perhaps most memorable of all, canoeing down the Gardon, stopping along the way for a picnic and to swim in the river, before finally passing underneath the Pont du Gard.

The perfect place for a holiday and we can’t wait to return.

Owner's Response: Mike and Amanda and kids Wow! thank you for your lovely review... I couldn't have said it better... but of course I am biased and someone reading my review would say "...of course she would say nice things about her house and the area..."  Having you say it - and after your second visit in four years - it speaks volumes. La Remise will gladly welcome you and your family again when you are ready for another break. Thank you, April

We never realized that la Remise was a birdwatcher’s paradise until a lovely guest from the summer of 2016 told us the treasure trove of birds he watched from our terrace – “We were fascinated by the amount of birds in the garden and surrounding area including Rollers Short toed and Booted eagles along with Lesser and common Kestrels. You have Scopes owls in the big tree and Bee Eaters fly over every evening we were there! We also saw Montagues Harrier down the road over the Vineyard.”

There is a piano in the sitting room/lounge.

According to a recent article in the New York Times, Languedoc is "...France's most dynamic wine region, producing some of the country's most exciting and affordable wines." Enjoy the drive around the south-there are over 50 wineries within an hour of La Remise.

One of the best beaches in France is Le Pointe de l’Espiguette, 20 kilometres of sand and sea offering all types of seaside activity. It's just 45 minutes away and an easy drive. La Grande Motte is where many go to the beach, just along from there is the world famous Carnon Plage. OR why not try something different and go to one of the local river beaches, Le Gardon, La Herault rivers. Try canoeing on the Gardon at Collias - near Pont du Gard - 40 minutes from La Remise.
